The definition of what a fishmongers should be. Great produce, fantastically helpful and knowledgeable staff.
Great to ring up and pre-​order.
I’ve yet to sample the sushi, miso etc but have it on good authority that they are top notch too.

Brilliant little shop, kept well stocked of beautiful fresh fish and the sushi is magnificent too, well worth a trip if you’re cooking a fish dish :-)

This is a great fishmonger. It all look and smell fresh and healthy and the prices are competitive too. Shame it’s not that local to me but I would make the detour to get fresh supplies whenever possible.

Amazing fish selection, always very fresh. Also a useful array of vegetables and salads, and sushi ingredients and other items meaning you could easily make this a one stop for picking up dinner ingredients.
Knowledgeable fishmongers, readily advise how best to cook.
However, I hate their ‘fish pie mix’. Tuna. In a fish pie. Really?! I’d rather pay twice as much and get the fish I like.

I have always found the service very good, the staff are helpful & give good advice. It does get very busy on Saturday mornings. More annoying are the Chorlton Mums & Dads who don’t mind their children, they are often small children messing about, getting in the way & playing with the metal fly curtain.

ohhh how i wish i could indulge in all the wonderful fish they have here. i’m typically put off by meat-​y products (this includes fish when it looks/​smells all funky and sad), but the selection here is frickin gorgeous.
keeping to my grad student budget, the 3.50 packs of sushi are a steal! and not surprisingly, also taste wondddderful. my bf and i shared a pack and didn’t say a word until we were finished eating. i think that’s a very good sign. :)

I totally agree with my fellow Unilocalers, this grocers/​fishmongers is truly five star. A huge range of fish so fresh you have to look closely to check they aren’t still flapping their tails, this shop also sells a comprehensive range of organic foods. I was surveying the array when a sign saying «sushi» caught my eye. Now they are talking my language! Handbags and sushi I can honestly say I am an expert on.
I could not believe it when I checked the price of a box of nigiri, only £3.25 — you would pay double for this amount from a well known chain. Sushi enthusiast that I am, I HAD to get the lowdown on my little fishy treats. I discovered that their creator is a talented chap called William who actually trains staff at Yo Sushi. He pops into this shop and prepares it fresh and boy can you tell the difference from the pre-​packed drivel usually sold in other shops. I promptly bought a tray and jumped in my car and ate it as though it was my last supper.
Out of the blue is Chorlton’s finest. Don’t let this one swim away!

From a butcher to a fishmonger, and here’s where I REALLY get to be a carnivore. I love seafood and you can find it in spades here — it’s worth travelling to from the city centre, believe me.
Here you can find fish sustainably sourced in the form of mackerel, red mullet, line-​caught bass and even sushi as well as the elusive John Dory, my favourite fish, and wild lobster and turbot. Having won an award for Best Food and Drink Outlet from the Manchester Food and Drink Festival, the fish is handpicked and purchased daily, with deliveries coming in two to three times a day.
90% of the fish is wild and the products are seasonal, meaning that you can get freshwater fish and shellfish as well as deli products, poultry and game and even vegetables, strangely enough. The value for money factor is huge here, the décor is clean and cute and it’s certainly popular with the locals. Definitely one to travel for.

Not enough shops have those dangly metal chains hanging in the doorways. Maybe that’s just me, but the jingly metallic welcome to this fantastic ‘plaice’ is a great welcome to a friendly fishy world.
This shop doesn’t have a lot of competition as it is the only fishmongers in Chorlton, but if there were another then out of the blue would still be my choice for its wide variety of deliciously fresh fish from cod to lobster and its friendly and helpful staff. I once went in to buy two pieces of tuna and rather than shoving them in a bag, they allowed me to select which pieces I wanted and had a little chat. I would certainly recommend the tuna (although sadly a little too pricey for me to eat every week) and the bags of fish pie mix are excellent value.
I didn’t notice the sushi mentioned by Angela, but I will be sure to pop back and sample that too. My housemate originally recommended this shop to me, but if you have been fortunate enough to stumble upon this ‘out of the blue’ then you should should be as happy as a clownfish.

Nothing smells fishy in Out Of The Blue — apart from the fish of course. This is such an amazing fishmonger, trying its best to supply the freshest and best quality produce possible by receiving 3 deliveries daily. There’s mackerel, John Dory, red mullet and line-​caught bass, plaice, salmon, freshwater fish, rare varieties of shellfish and lobster and a wonderful choice of Sushi prepared by an in-​house chef. It doesn’t end there — if you don’t fancy fish you can also buy organic game and poultry
Out of the Blue is a great deli too, selling seasonal vegetables, conserves, seasonings and even coffee and pasta, and the staff are happy to help with cooking and serving suggestions.
