Specialties
Authentic Nepalese cuisine cooked in a traditional coal fired Tandoori clay oven to produce what we, and many others, believe to be the best Nepalese and Indian Cuisine in the UK.
Our experienced Nepalese chef Gopal Dangol has created a delicious menu of authentic Nepalese tandoori curries and signature dishes. Our fully stocked bar also features Kathmandu and Cobra Beer — a refreshing, authentic accompaniment to your meal!
Featured in the top 50 Curry houses in The Independent, and proud winners of the Hardens Observer Readers Choice for Indian Cuisine in the UK, we have also been selected for the House of commons Tiffin club.
History
Established in 1987.
Busy making a name for himself as one of the finest chefs in Kathmandu, word about head chef Gopal Dangol quickly spread to England. Soon after, he was headhunted by a restaurateur in the North West to join him in an exciting new project. Gopal then began a new venture, which went on to become a milestone for Asian dining in the North West. Nepalese food had finally arrived in Manchester in the form of The Kathmandu.
Having gained an outstanding reputation as a venue for superb Nepalese cuisine, in 1986 Gopal began working on a new project. An altogether ‘Greater’ project. The Great Kathmandu Tandoori Restaurant.
Some say that it was fate that Gopal came to England but we know it was sheer determination and hard work. Even today the same recipe of Nepalese courage and adaptability is used today in all our curries and signature dishes.
