Poor food and terrible service :-(. Normally I enjoy a quick bite to eat at a yo sushi. Unfortunately there was nothing quick about this venue. Despite it being late evening and may 3 or 4 other diners it took more than 15 minutes to be served. The staff where more interested in moving boxes? And then chatting with each other. Once I did manage to order I then had another long wait — I’d only ordered cucumber maki and a beef teriyaki. Eventually it did arrive and this is the only time I have not finished a dish! at a yo sushi. The cucumber maki was warm, bordering on hot and the beef was soft and mushy and not the normal crispy sticky dish it usually is. The waitress did ask why I had not eaten my dishes. I explained but she didn’t reply and said my bill would be ready at the till :-). Brilliant. So I will still eat at yo sushi but never again here. After all the best burger & lobster is just across the hall ;-).

I love the whole concept of conveyor belt sushi. I don’t need to order and more can be surprised to see what shows up. However, after going to Yo! Sushi several times, I’ve realized that it’s really just not very good. Most of the sushi is california rolls or other things like that aren’t really sushi at all. On top of that, for what it is, it’s not really cheap.

Mostly I wanted to go inside and see the store, especially after seeing the Alexander McQueen display in the window. Hubs had told me about having eaten at conveyor belt sushi places before so I went in knowing it was not going to be a foodie experience but more a gimmicky one. It is too expensive for what you get for one plus I’ve had better sushi from the grocers. You have to wait for — and hope it does come past you — the dish you want then you pick it off and eat. The prices are determined by the color of the bowl the food comes in. If want you want doesn’t stroll past, you can buzz for a server who will put in your request to the chefs for you. I say go and look if you have never seen sushi served this way before and then go seek out a real sushi restaurant.

Just say No to Yo! I don’t know if I’m biased because I’m from LA where the fish is fresh and wonderful. I went one day while in London after a hankering for sushi overtook me. The fish was ok. The rice was at times a little hard and not soft. The only saving grace for this place was that the service was pretty good. The sushi chefs were attentive and willing to make dishes for you. Hence the 2 stars. Next time, i’ll just wait til I get back to the States.

This is one of those conveyor belt sushi restaurants where they put the plates on conveyors and you pull them off and pay by color-coated dishes. I went a year ago several times because I stayed in the area alone on business and it’s perfect for the solo traveler. I returned to London this month and went twice here. The food was just ok. The service was not so great and the vegetarian options were minimal. My first visit was better because they were very attentive. The second time, it was an hour before close and they said the kitchen is closed. There were very few options for me to eat even though there were several dishes. I guess it’s not the restaurant’s fault but I’d prefer they serve properly or just close. The restaurants in the small food court next to this closed from a year ago which isn’t a good sign.

During our first trip to London, I was already bracing myself to a state of constant hunger. I assumed I’d have nothing to eat but soup, salad or sandwich. I grew up eating rice for breakfast, lunch, and dinner so the thought of having to forego rice during this trip was torture. My cousin who lives in London wanted us to experience the traditional English High Tea when we met on a Sunday afternoon. Imagine her consternation(and my delight) when her 8-year old daughter insisted on eating at Yo Sushi. All I could think of was rice, rice, rice! Bottomline, we ended up eating at Yo Sushi! Given my rice craving at that time, every bite of the sushi was a taste of heaven. However, objectively speaking, their food was nothing great. If that restaurant were to open here in Northern California I probably would not even dine at Yo Sushi because there are cheaper and better alternatives here offering the same concept. But if you’re in London where choices are probably relatively limited, then Yo Sushi will do.

Let’s get some things straight right now: No, Yo Sushi is NOT the freshest, most inventive sushi. Yes, it is not the best quality. Yes, it is similar to the crap you would buy in a grocery store. Yes, it is over priced. But… it’s kinda fun! In Chicago, we don’t have a Yo Sushi on every corner and I therefore it was a novelty to me. I loved the idea of the rotating belt just going by me and being able to pull endless sushi from it. On top of it, it was great to do some browsing in Harvey Nichols and then be able to just eat without leaving the store. I’m the queen of lazy. The only thing that really sucked was having them tally your plates at the end and spending a fortune…
