WA café is such a cute café with really great tasting and looking Japanese pastries. I really enjoyed my iced matcha latte and my white sesame cheesecake which really tasted of sesame with a deeper-flavoured, crunchy base. Easier said than done and absolutely delicious. Service is sweet and efficient and the décor is a delight. They don’t do savouries on a Tuesday but I’ll be going back for more. What a great discovery.

I love the modern japanese take on french patisserie. It’s also very popular in their own country, where I couldn’t find as many traditional sweets as I expected but virtually every chain coffee had macaroons and dainty looking pastries/sponges on the menu. Wa café is located in Ealing, a bit off the track, but lucky me because if I lived nearby I’d be here every weekend, getting fatter and poorer by the minute. It’s that good. It won’t come cheap; it’s over £4 for a small slice of cake, but you get your money’s worth in taste, ambiance, service and presentation. This café is located by the green and has big windows filling the place with light. It has a small but comfortable seating area and the staff shows the level of customer care Japan is famous for. The cakes are beautiful and the breads look yummy. Everything looks fresh and probably is because the goods are made on the premises and they go fast. Luckily the ladies on the counter keep replenishing the stock, but some items from the menu were no longer available by the time we got there. Head off early! :) The tea is served in beautiful glassware, transparent cups and teapots that will make your heart sing. I don’t like green tea but it looks so pretty in the teapot I almost caved. To start I had the teriyaki chicken roll, which was tasty but there was not a lot of filling. If you’re hungry I’d go for the more substantial looking sandwiches; but I wanted to save space for dessert… The melon pan is great, if you’re a fan of this sweet bread with cookie-like exterior you’ll enjoy their offering. My companion had the curry bun, which he rated highly(so much that I didn’t get the chance to steal a bite) and the deep fried egg mayo bun, who looks odd but is a joy — I loved the corn flakes coating, very crunchy! On to the cakes! It was a though decision for me, but I went for the strawberry shortcake: layers of chiffon sponge(not to sweet, very light) covered in soft-as-a-cloud whipped cream and fresh strawberries. My companion opted for the choux trio, not only good looking but delicious. As a takeaway I had the chocolate cornet, which was good but nothing special. Now there’s so many other cakes and breads I want to try… Damn, it’s a long drive but I’ll go for it. ;)

Great addition to the shops around Ealing Broadway! The delicately prepared desserts and freshly baked breads are unique and too tempting not to try. I highly recommend the Curry Bun — it has a doughnut bread texture and just the right amount of yellow curry filling. The coffee prices are sightly above London prices but if you sit-in, the cup and presentation will make you feel like you are having afternoon tea in a Japanese tea garden. Friendly staff and highly recommend if you are passing through!

Coherent. That’s how it’s described best. It’s clear every detail in the design, interior and exterior of this place is designed by a strong sense of design and practicality. It’s a calm place in the middle of a not so much calm area. The Matcha Latte is a bliss. I hope it stays as thoughtful and genuine place as it is in future. Brilliant.

Waaaaaaah Café. Ah, where to start. Wa Café is a cute little Japanese patisserie in Ealing. Not exactly the most on-the-way place to get to, but I have absolutely no problem about coming out here to eat: this place is oi-bloody-shii. The café space itself is quite small, there are a few tables(it got pretty busy on a Sunday afternoon), and it’s quite minimalist. Still, I like the overall atmosphere of the place, it feels light and there’s a lovely view of the green right too. Things what I have eaten here: — chicken katsu sandwich. For £5 you get a LARGE sandwich with delicious, light bread, crunchy chicken katsu, and tonkatsu sauce — extremely filling and tasty. They also do a chicken teriyaki version and a couple of other things that I can’t remember off the top of my head. — egg mayo doughnut — sounds weird, but this was really good. Cornflakes on the outside for extra crunch, not greasy, and the filling worked really well. — the patisserie selection is available to view online: check them out(and yes, the presentation is that perfect irl). The pastries are very much in the French style: I tried the seasonal tart, crumbly, buttery short pastry base with pistachio/almond cream and topped with pear and grapefruit pieces. I loved the base, and the whole thing was really well put together. My sister tried the Sakura, a strawberry and cherry mousse type cake. The mousse was really light and the flavours were excellent. Neither of these were too sweet either, so extra marks in my book. — Soy matcha lattes: these are up there with London’s best, definitely on par with Lagu’s, plus they’re a bit bigger than in most places. They also have some of my other favourites such as sobacha(buckwheat nib tea — it’s a bit like barley tea but with a nuttier flavour) and yuzu-honey tea. If you’re in the area, go here. If you live in Rotherhithe or Zone 9, go here. I’ve never been one to shy away from travelling to go to good places, but I came here yesterday and I have half a mind to go back today. And I’ll want to go tomorrow too. Sod it, I might just move to Ealing.

I love melon bread, curry bread, and little sandwich with kara-a-ge in them. Definitely will go back again for cakes.
