Great little deli. You will find large assortiment of sauces, dips, chutneys, marmalades, teas etc. But properly the test thing is the coffee. Try their special blends and I don’t think you will go anywhere else anymore…

This shops has been here from time immemorial! It reminds me of my childhood, walking past on a Saturday morning and smelling the coffee being roasted. What a fantastic piece of Muswell Hill history.

This is shopping like it was 100 years ago and what a great retail experience. The first thing that assails you, if you are very lucky, is the smell of coffee roasting which pumps out into the street from the machine in the window. The machine looks as though it should be is a museum and in a way it is. Martyn is stilll today, very much as shops must have been back at the turn of the century,(the previous century). And the produce and service are fantastic. I have just topped up with loose Earl Grey tea and Ian Fleming’s favourite; Wilkinson’s little Scarlet strawberry jam. The change is handed to you through a little hatch. Now wasn’t shopping so much nicer back then!

I just want to echo the thoughts of the other reviewers of this shop; stepping into it is like stepping back in time. It’s a little bit of history right in the heart of Muswell Hill and I’d be heartbroken if it closed, so I hope everyone patronises this shop as much as possible! As well as being a gorgeous historical building the shop has a great selection of home made goodies, chutneys, pickles and olde worlde confectionary. Not to mention an excellent choice of fresh coffee beans ground and roasted for you on the premises.

Oh I love, love, love this place! When you enter the store, it feels turning the clock back about a hundred years or so: the smell of fresh-roasted and ground coffee beans; the dark wooden shelves stocked to the brim with typical English delicacies and the staff with their old-time aprons… This place is not only ideal for finding presents for your friends or colleagues, but it’s also great to treat yourself. This is what I would recommend: try out their jams and chutneys; in fact, you just pick the ones with the«Gold Taste Award» label then you shouldn’t go wrong… they really deserve that award! And even if you don’t need anything… I’m almost sure you wouldn’t walk out this store empty-handedly…it’s that good!

5 stars for giving me the smell of fresh ground coffee since birth. I was born and dragged up in Muswell Hill and Martyns has been the constant presence along with the Odeon. Family owned and packed with nostalgia and fine jams and marmalade. Great coffee roasted on the premises and all set in a great old store interior.

Muswell Hill is such a gorgeous part of the city, comfortably sitting on the hill overlooking the hustle and bustle of the rest of London. With so many great deli’s and cake shops along the Broadway it’s a nice place to come to get away for the afternoon. W Martyn is one of the more old fashioned tea and cake shops that has been in business for over a century. I love the fact that I can pop in here, just as past family members have done so over the years, and still be guaranteed to find great food and the same friendly, family run atmosphere the shop has always had. The interior is the same too and the staff will wait behind a condiment stacked counter to serve you, before passing you onto the little window counter to pay. They also use old fashioned weighing scales and a ladder to reach the higher shelves. After all, why change a good thing? The fresh roast coffee wafting through the door is enough to bring you inside and then you’re spoilt for choice with traditional English treats. I’m actually in love with their Farmhouse Fruit Cake and I now can’t have a cup of tea without it.

This coffee shop has been open since 1897 and is a true treasure to the Muswell Hill community. A family run business with an amazing selection of fresh tea’s, coffee’s, Jams, biscuits and treats. Make sure you stock up your Christmas goodies well before December 25th as its goods are as popular as they are tasty and often supplies of specialist goods can run low at this time of year. A truly old fashioned style grocer type shop, you can smell the goodness all the way up the street.
