Does a fine burger and chips, pints, not too crowded not too loud, medium priced, staff friendly. On the whole a decent and totally serviceable boozer. Will have to come back and try more of the food at some point having read others’ reviews.

This is hands-down the best pub in Camberwell. Yes there are a few too many beards in there and the shabby chic interior is nothing original. But it has lovely vibes, comfy seating and is never too rammed. And the food. The food is nothing short of amazing. American-style burgers with a choice of lots of toppings such as hot sauce and jalapeños, or if you don’t feel like a burger for for the incredible spicy pepper mac n cheese. The burgers are juicy and cooked just right with a brioche bun. And the chips, oh my god, they are so moreish and delicious. I love them.

Great pub! Lovely large open dining room fitted with couches, tables, stools in an eclectic mix which strangely complements the beautiful old building. The walls are adorned with everything from animal skulls & taxidermy and floral paintings but it all ties together an works well. The bar hosts a great selection of beers and guest ales as well as spirits and they do a cracking bloody mary. Food is all cooked fresh from the wee kitchen at the back and even the bar snacks look fab(scotch eggs and sausage rolls made in house) If your in Camberwell make sure you pay The Tiger a visit — you wont regret it.

*sigh*. I’ve seen this pub a million times. It’s just like every other hipster pub. Missed matched furniture. Random crap on the Walls. Menus in buckets. Need I go on? Brought here by a friend of a friend who wanted to come here in-case she bumped into the guy she went home with the weekend previous. I’ll leave that there.. . Anyway, we all bought a house bottle of wine for around £15. It was pretty awful wine. I took the menu from its table bucket and perused it. Pretty standard pub fayre I thought and put it on the table. Ten mins later one of the staff physically leant right over the table and replaced the paper menu to it’s bucket while we were in mid conversation. On edge for the rest of the night, in-case I misplaced my wineglass or bottle on the table, I eventually gave up and folded the menu into a paper airplane and left. Aside from the attitude from the staff, the crowd was quite mixed. Locals and trendies, couples and groups.

The thing with the Tiger is that it’s apparently such a massive improvement on its predecessor, the alarming Silver Buckle, that it’s rumoured to be single-handedly raising house prices in the area.(Though this may of course be estate agent bullshit). You used to be able to rely on seeing a fleet of police cars outside the Buckle on a Friday or Saturday night(conveniently enough, the local station is only a few doors along). Things are a lot quieter now. There probably are people who still miss the Buckle, but you wouldn’t want to run into them or anything. Anyway, the Tiger — you can get wine in carafes here(for some reason), the service is agreeable, and they do a fine sausage roll. Not enough pubs have decent bar snacks, so this alone gets the Tiger a thumbs-up from me. That, and the fact they were amenable to my girlfriend’s request to change the music when she was at some celebration or other(Radiohead wasn’t helping the atmosphere, it seems). So yes, thumbs up to the Tiger! If I didn’t love the Hermit’s Cave so bloody much, I would definitely drink in the Tiger more often.

This pub is the best thing about Camberwell. Really. The Tiger is a trendy pub with it’s quirky, vintage-chic interior and young and trendy staff which is nice ‘cos, well, Camberwell isn’t that trendy. They serve pints in beer mugs and serve wine in mini carafes. It’s great. But the best thing about that place is definitely the food. Their roast beef dinner is the best roast dinner I’ve ever eaten out. For just a tenner, I got generous slices of roast beef, roast potatoes, red cabbage and parsnip crisps followed by a freshly made mini blueberry cheesecake with loads and loads of blueberries in it. The cheesecake was £3.50.
