If you’re strolling around Regent’s Canal, I assume you have some leisurely time to spare. This is a quaint little pitstop near Angel station worth visiting on a sunny day, with arguably the best views of any canal-side shop in London(they’re on the picturesque City Road basin). When my friend and I entered, they were playing Bill Withers, which is always a plus. It has a minimalist, retro-cool vibe, doing just enough to create a neat atmosphere. I had one of their cake slices(forgot what I ordered) and it was pretty good, though too coconut-ty for my preference. I’m not a coffee drinker but it seems to be a hot spot for it. Highly recommended!

Small coffee shop next to Regent Canal. I’m a little bit in love with this lovely spot. It is perfect if you’re walking around the canal and need some good coffee. They use AllPress coffee, so you recognise the quality since the beginning. They also have some pastries and salads as if you feel a little bit hungry. The owner told me they have been opened just for a year but it is going really well. So happy to hear that! As I said the coffee is excellent and not so expensive. They have I little terrace to enjoy the sun(if you’re lucky enough!) Try this little cute place. You’ll come back!

I found this spot walking along the Canal on my way to work and just decided to give it a try. It is a cute little coffee shop on a converted pump house and, since London has decided to delight us with sun and nice weather, the seating area outside is always full of people enjoying the(lacking) rays of sun. If you prefer to step inside, the place is small but cosy, decorated with coffee sacks and wooden tables as well as some vintage furniture. The coffee is really good as they serve Allpress coffee, which is one of my favourites. They also have a large selection of appealing home made cakes and some food. Definitely worth a try after a Regents canal side walk!

Great location and nice cakes and hot meals at reasonable prices. Beside the Regent’s Canal near Noël Road opposite City Road Basin on the towpath.

NEWCHEFANDMENU!!! ***Seems they are only open until early evening. As of a few weeks ago the Pumphouse has taken on a new chef culminating in some culinary magic. You already have heard about the great canal-side location but the food is just as much reason to visit. There is a selection of gourmet sandwiches and cakes and then a daily menu with salads and mains all for very very reasonable prices. The food was divine! We ordered amazing salads(a beetroot, mint and arugala salad with a dressing consisting of vinegar, lemon and capers juice and a cucumber and onion with poppy seed dressing). My wife and I then shared an eggplant parm with a succulent sauce and fresh bread and an earl-grey smoked salmon. Honestly one of the best meals I have had in London and I signed up for a Unilocal account just to spread the word and encourage this type of cooking in London.

I will go 3.5 on this one so far but I like to support new independent businesses and anything that smells like it might be decent coffee in Angel is going to have my cup half full rather than half empty. Strategically located opposite the City Wharf Basin, this little gem of a converted brick pump house is a delightful spot to grab a coffee or home-baked cake and perch outside(on the al fresco tables provided or the lock itself) to watch the occasional canal boat pass by when, dare I say, London lets some of those seldom sunshine rays out for us to enjoy. Alternatively cosy up inside for some simple home cooking and hang out with the friendly staff. The coffee is ok, the cakes are better. But when I say ok, I mean fantastic if you thought soulless franchaise burnt coffee from Upper street was your alternative. Wonderful way to start or culminate a long Regents canal-side walk as the café is just off the tow path before it hits the Islington tunnel, where you must peel off the waterside and head immediately to the Island Queen or Charles Lamb for a pint.
