Specialties
Kipferl is a traditional and authentic Viennese coffee house and restaurant based in Camden Passage, Angel. We serve homemade Austrian cakes and coffee specialities and small dishes such as gulyas soup and Frankfurters in our café area at the front to classics such as Wiener Schnitzel and Kaesespaetzle accompanied for fine Austrian wines and beers in our restaurant area.
History
Established in 2003.
Kipferl started life as a small delicatessen shop near Smithfield in the City of London in 2004, brainchild of Christian Malnig, an Austrian with the ambition to bring Viennese food culture to London, and his partner Katie Lloyd Thomas. Kipferl quickly gained a fine reputation for its authentic and high quality cakes, sausages, Viennese coffee varieties and Austrian staples. Londoners enjoy dining out and trying out new cuisines, and in 2007 we were given the opportunity to operate the park café in Corams Fields, the charitable children’s park in Bloomsbury. Around the same time we also realised, that the delicatessen and café on Long Lane was getting too small to accommodate all our fans to have their cakes, coffees and savoury meals. So we decided to open a proper Viennese coffeehouse and kitchen in Angel instead, followed by our second venture in North Kensington.
Meet the Business Owner
Christian M.
Business Owner
Christian studied business administration in Vienna and financed his degree by working in restaurants and hotels. He emigrated to the UK in 1996 and had a successful career in financial services, but the idea of running his own Austrian coffeehouse/restaurant never left him and in 2004 he started with the delicatessen in Smithfield. The rest is history…
