Description

Specialties

The Freud Museum in Hampstead was the home of Sigmund Freud and his family when they escaped Nazi annexation of Austria in 1938. It remained the family home until Anna Freud, the youngest daughter, died in 1982. The centrepiece of the museum is Freud’s study, preserved just as it was during his lifetime.

The Freud Museum’s central function is to celebrate the life, work and legacy of Sigmund and Anna Freud. The museum organises an active public programme of conferences, talks and educational visits. The museum also hosts an innovative series of contemporary art exhibitions.

History

Established in 1986.

The Freud family home was converted into a museum at the wish of Anna Freud, following her death in 1982.

We now welcome visitors from around the world, both specialists and those new to Freud and psychoanalysis.
