Have been in London for a week and this is my least favorite places that we have dined. The staff was not helpful or friendly. The food was not of a high quality. We had coconut shrimp, chicken wings, and fried gherkins. These were overlooked and chewy. Not even as good as bowling alley food.

Like with royalty, The Duchess was crowned in late 2011, having previously been named otherwise. Before you see this as being a cynical marketing ploy to cash in on Kate and Wills mania, first consider this — throughout the centuries British pubs have been named based on major current events that occurred close to when they opened, and usually ones relating to the monarchy. The Kings Head, the Duke of Wellington etc. are great examples of this. So naming this Goldhawk Road pub after the Duchess is really an act of rampant traditionalism, something often missing in the past decades of Slugs and Lettuces etc. And the Duchess doesn’t disappoint with its new found traditionalism. CAMRA members, NHS staff and members of the armed forces all get 50p off a pint of house lager, real ales or cask ciders. The ciders and ales are regularly rotated with many options including both pumped and gravity poured drinks from around the country. Our visit coincided with a North vs South mini real ale festival. There’s also a staggering array of spirits behind the bar. The pub itself is a huge-ceiling, big open rooms place on the corner, with beer garden and outside tables, sofas, big pine tables, board games, newspapers, quizzes and comedy evenings. If my wife liked pubs too, this would be our living room.

Visited on New Year’s Eve — free buffet and reserved tables. Nice fireplace, large interior. Great bathrooms(clean, spacious, new design). Friendly barkeeps, male and female.

Great pub, great selection of ales, cinders and spirits. Honest food and a fantastic selection of cheese, make this CAMRA pub a must visit With a chilled out selection of clientele and staff that are friendly and approachable, this venue has a very relaxed and homely atmosphere. If you fancy a tasty pint and food, visit this pub. A much needed addition to the CAMRA family that is very much needed, knowing that it’s sister the Breed Louise is scheduled for demolition when Euston expands.

Came in on a Sunday, live jazz playing in lounge area at pleasant volume. Full range of cask ales and ciders(yes!) and lots of people eating. All in all, friendly & relaxed local pub refreshing change of pace from the chaos of the Chiswick High Road pubs.
