Ordered the selection of starters, a quarter of duck and a pad Thai. Positives were the 2−4−1 cocktails until 7.30pm, the very fast service and the quality of the food which was great. Downsides were that it was quite pricey for what it actually was(£14 for the quite small ten piece starter selection and £14 for a quarter of duck). Also, because it wasn’t very busy, you got the feeling that the bored waitresses were taking an interest in your conversation…

This restaurant was a gem in the Mansion House area off the main strip. The décor was pleasantly authentic and offered a very traditional feel. We tried the sampler appetizer and everything from the crab rangoon to chicken setae was delicious. I went with a spicy chicken and red curry dish that was also very tasty. If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary or cultural on a visit to the city this is a great place to stop. The good thing is that they have many locations throughout London as well.

Thai Square has been a pleasant find for us during our time in town. They seem to have locations all over and this one was close to home and an obvious choice for us on a night when we didn’t feel like cooking dinner. We showed up later than I care to eat, about 9ish, and got right down to business. TS is more of a «your order please» type place instead of a «how is your meal» small talk kind of place. That’s fine for me, particularly when I just wanted to hit and run. Here’s what we had: Kanom Jeep Gai Kra Prawn Beef Red Curry Mixed Veggies Steamed Rice I’m pleased to report that we were the only ones we saw using the chopsticks, and doing so with a blistering pace. We only got four of those little dim sum thingys, which seems about a couple short. No worries as I put away all of my curry and enjoyed it, though I could have gone for a bit more heat to it. My wife’s prawn dish was spicier and she loved it. We always get the veggie side and really liked that one too. Good food, in and out in no time. TS is a solid option for your Thai fix.

It’s ok. Probably 2.5 stars, but it ‘s a sunny day and I’m feeling generous, so pushed it up to 3 rather than down to 2.(That’s probably more information than you need, so I apologise!) It’s dark, cavernous and when we went, it had an alarming leak over one side of the restaurant, so it was quite busy only on one side! The food is standard Thai Square food, and they will not deviate from the menu, no matter how much you beg, plead, encourage or whine! The menu is written in charming broken English, and I am a little disappointed to note that the heading ‘noddles’ has been corrected. I used to enjoy giggling at that! I usually have the Pad See Yew — it’s a complete meal in itself, has lots of broccoli in it and isn’t too heavy. The wine is not very good, so I usually stick to diet coke. The service has never been overwhelming, and it’s not all that cheap. But, in a pinch I will come here again.

The short version: Fun décor, fairly good service, and good Thai-style(not very authentic) food. I went to Thai Square with a couple work colleagues, and we all enjoyed Thai Square. And we all left saying: that was good, but it wasn’t flavored like Thai food we’ve had elsewhere(including in Thailand). The dishes are all familiar: Pad Thai, Tom Yum, etc. but in what we had(satay, Pad Thai, and Pad See Ew) the flavors were unfamiliar. Which is not to say we didn’t like it. In fact, we all enjoyed it very much. The dishes were nicely spiced(you’ll want to ask if you want any heat at all) and well-balanced in flavor. Service was quick and attentive and the décor nicely put together, especially the wall of Thai bells, next to which we sat.

This restaurant helped me realize that Thai Square is a chain of Thai restaurants! I had no idea that chain food could be so good. I went to this restaurant with a large group of co-workers and were served food based on the number of people that were at dinner. I could not believe the amount of food that came out! The group was satisfied after the appetizers came out and had little room for the main entrees. The generous portions were great and everything we tried was delicious. I would definitely recommend visiting a Thai Square location while in London!

London gets a bad rap for its cuisine, but the international food here is out of this world. One of my coworkers brought me to Thai Square for dinner because it’s not too far of a walk from the office. We started with chicken satay(a dish I’ve had many times but this one was the best!) and the Toong Tong. I think the 2nd dish means«golden sacks» and is basically fried rice paper sacks of goodness stuffed with shrimp, chicken, and spices. Yum. For the main course, we split the Green Curry with Chicken and the Pad Thai with Shrimp. Both plates were the best versions of these dishes I’ve ever had. To be fair, Texas isn’t known for its Thai cuisine, so maybe I just don’t know any better, but in any case, everything we ate was delicious. The other thing nice about this restaurant is that the service was really good. I’m used to a certain standard of service in the US which you do not generally find in London. My only complaint is that they added gratuity automatically to our ticket even though there were only 2 of us. I didn’t notice until I looked at the receipt after we left, and I had tipped an additional amount when paying. Oh well, the waitress really was great, so she earned the extra tip. I will definitely be back on my next business trip in London.

Thai Square Restaurant in the City of London is one of the most complete dining experiences in a city full of restaurants with ever stranger shticks and tricks. Tucked down a little side street near Cannon Street station, it’s easy to miss as City folk and even tourists are on their way to the next-next thing. Once inside, the gorgeous, sumptuous décor causes one to wonder why the outside isn’t more in keeping with the delicious decorations, which draw the eye to several places at once. From the large, artfully-lit wall covered in mosaic tiles, to the old-style Siamese statues in small alcoves a la the great cathedrals, the décor in Thai Square is extremely chic and definitively Thai without being over-the-top. The restaurant is spacious, with plenty of room to seat large groups, while still allowing more intimate parties to enjoy a conversation without having to shoot baleful glares at the drunken bankers one table over. The service is very good, prompt and attentive. The wait staff are dressed in traditional Siamese wraps and skirts. And are also very good-looking, in keeping with the décor. We were very pleased with the food. For starters, we had gold bags(because the name was just too naughty to pass up), chicken satay and fish cakes. The chicken satay was as expected: plump, moist chicken on skewers with traditional peanut sauce. The gold bags were a delight — rice paper wrapping over a minced concoction of prawns, chicken and various veg and spices. They were extremely flavourful little morsels of golden baggedness. But the winner in the category of Supporting Dish was the fish cakes, packed so full of flavours, I nearly dropped my fork. They were divine, lightly spiced and with a rich heaviness that didn’t deduct from the delicate flavour of the fish. Instead of the potato-heavy ultra-fried cake of restaurants past, this was a new take on a traditional favourite. The mains were excellent, everything coming out in good time, but taking just long enough to show that it was freshly prepared. The Beef Jungle Curry was delicious, spicy and tangy and savoury in all the right ways, with a solidly-flavoured sauce, and some surprisingly interesting veg. But the real star of the show was the Chilli Lamb, which was to die for. Hey, people have died for more ridiculous reasons — trust me, I’m a coroner. I can say without a doubt I’ve rarely had such tender, well-cooked lamb. Without being squashy or soggy, it melted in the mouth. The spices in the dish were unique, with a subtle mix of sweet, savoury and sour in just the right amounts. I don’t even like lamb very much, and was really impressed with this dish. The wine list was well-crafted, with some standard offerings(Chataneuf du Pape), and some interesting new choices; but being plebian, I stuck with beer, and can say that to quaff a crisp Thai beer is a fine thing indeed. Despite it being a chain, it’s three cheers for Thai Square from this happy diner.

I used to live across the way from Thai Square on the Minories. It is the best one of all of them in London(except during happy hour when it is filled with suits). It has a great Tokyo Ice Tea that is sold in pitchers. So good that you will drink at least one a piece and not even realize what you got yourself into. The Pad Thai(suprise, suprise) is delicious. But my favorite dishes are the Green curry with coconut rice and the Lamb leg in red curry. The meat falls of the bone and the sauce is to die for. It also has a function room downstairs so it is a good place for Christmas parties. There is nothing glam about this place but it gets my vote because the staff was nice, food was good and I never had to wait for a table.

Food was very nice, décor pleasant. The toilets let it down(1 didn’t flush, the other 2 I looked in were heavily stained) Was slightly surprised that the bill came to as much as it did but there was 2 bottles of wine on it making it about £56 per head. Slightly shocked to be charged £2 for the prawn crackers that appeared on the table. We had set menu silver and I can’t fault the food at all, very nice especially the yellow curry. Would go back but perhaps try another branch.

Thai Square is a chain serving a large selection of Thai dishes and relatively well priced. Chicken stays with peanut sauce, crab cakes and vegetable spring rolls for starters and for their soups they have Tom Yum Goong(hot and spicy prawn soup) and Tom Kha Gai. The main dishes are extensive with seafood dishes, curries, noodles, vegetables and salads. Try not to get lost in the list as it does go on a bit, and they could do with a more simplified menu. This particular branch also has a large downstairs area which is great to hire out for parties.
