It’s a rather marvellous environment for getting glasses, with a warm and welcoming feel. This isn’t a conveyor belt high street opticians, you’re getting a bespoke experience from the moment you enter the door until you leave. Amongst the very cool ornaments and curious old-​looking eye related paraphenalia that dot the place, you have a pretty special looking range of glasses and sunglasses. No boring NHS design here! That was the first big pull forme. The other major pull are the owners of the store. I got a one on one fully involved experience in finding the right sort of glasses for my face/​build and the right sort of position to put them on — from the way it sits on the nose to the width on my head and around my ears. It was the best experience of finding the right glasses for me I’ve ever had. The eye exam itself was involving, with some modern equipment and an optician who was very easy to talk to and was very patient in ensuring your eyes were being tested properly. I’d happily recommend this place for anyone who would like to get some glasses that they will really be happy with.

Specstacular is an excellent independent eyeglasses boutique in Shoreditch just off trendy Brick Lane on Cheshire Street.
They specialise in vintage frames but also have eye catching modern frames, of which I saw a really exciting frame which I wish I had taken, but having already chosen 3 frames, would be something I’d definitely be asking for my birthday!
I received bar none, the best service from the owners of the shop and it was so interesting talking to them about their frames — they know about every piece in their shop and are a wealth of knowledge about vintage frames.
The optician that checked my eyes was lovely and having told her about my anxiety about eye checks, was very conscious of making it a relaxing and positive experience. (I also received the best complimentary coffee that I was told was sourced from a local artisan coffee shop. Delicious!)
If you are in Shoreditch/​Brick lane, or even if you’re not, you definitely need to stop and look around this unique shop — if you need glasses or not. The shop is a masterpiece of design which shows in their choice of frames displayed. And if like me you’re always wanting something unique, and don’t like to blend in, you need glasses from this opticians!
