Sobell Leisure Centre

«Better» has definitely made Sobell worse by canceling Zumba on Mondays with Topaz, despite petitioning by the class members to keep it going. I sent a letter to customer service which was ignored and unanswered. Additionally, they keep sneakily raising fees by changing names of classes («Zumba» became «Aerobic Dance» and suddenly it cost more.) Not cool, Better, not cool.

After a sudden bout of fitness in the last year or so I basically seem to spend most of my life in the Sobell centre at one or another of their classes… and so I figured it was time I left a review.
A recent refurb isn’t doing a great deal to help with Sobell’s image problems — you couldn’t really tell what they’d changed to the gym, the ladies’ changing rooms already have a broken bench and are smaller, and the toilets are still some of the grimmest I’ve seen away from a festival field. To add to the not great exterior the reception staff are on the surly side and are not particularly quick to help.
I realise I’m not really selling this four-​star review so here goes — the classes are seriously great. There’s a huge variety and they’re adding more all the time — apparently ballet fitness is the new thing — and there are a lot of them, at a bunch of different times. You can pretty much always find a class to suit. The instructors also really earn their stars — all friendly and professional, and I’m always impressed by the level variance in their classes.
As someone who was terrified of organised fitness I’ve always felt welcome and at ease at Sobell’s fitness classes, and that’s saying something.

DO NOT BOOK A KID’S PARTY AT THE ICE RINK!
Absolutely horrible experience when I had my daughter’s 5^th birthday party at the Sobell Leisure Centre ice rink. The staff were so unbelievably rude that it was almost as if they were running a prison camp and deliberately trying to ruin my daughter’s birthday. All the guests commented on it and they all said that they would never go back due to the staff. My daughter and I are very keen skaters, but will never again go to this ice rink.

Despite its rather grim exterior this is a great leisure centre. During half term they run kids sports experience days for £7 per child. They get to try out all sorts of sports including trampolining and ice skating. Great value and great fun. Large gym and lots of classes perfect venue for keeping fit whether you are an adult or child!

This is a leisure centre with a difference. It is very hard to believe that they can fit so many sports within such a small enclosure. It is possible to participate in numerous activities and classes are available for all age groups and all levels.
Membership is available for juniors, adults and senior citizens and with membership, the majority of activities are reduced. For those on benefits membership is available at a reduced rate and furhter discounts are available, which I beleive is highly commendable.
A free one day trial membership is available and so, anyone who lives within the vicinity and feels that they should be more active should deifinitely visit the Sobell. I am sure that you will not be disapointed
For those who do not wish to be over-​active, there are some activities that are not so demanding and the sobell is a great place to take the kids. Try the ice skating rink, it is excellent fun

Sobell Leisure Centre, Is A Place To Hang Around, Relax And Have Alot Of Fun, As They Have A Various Of Activites Displayed To The Public Such As Football, Badmionton, Basketball, Tramponling, Bouncy Castle, Gym And Ice Skating.

A large leisure center containin a gym, ice rink, rock climbing walls, trampolines and a large sports hall. The gym is small but has most of the usual equiptment. The ice rink is too dark but it’s the only indoor one nearby. The sports hall hosts a variety of activities and clubs throughout the week including childrens ones at the weekend e.g. badminton and basketball. The cost varies depending on the activity but is very affordable when compared to other locations.
