I walk past this restaurant a few times a week and it was about time we checked it out. As a fan of Indian food, I am spoilt for choice in London! We have ordered a take — away from this restaurant a month ago and the food was very good quality and for a fairly reasonable price. It was about time we actually sat in the restaurant. On first impressions, there always seems to be a high staff to customer ratio in here. The all male staff are always smartly dressed in waistcoat and bow tie, but while they are attentive, they didn’t smile too much. At least for our server. The portions here are large, and as a table we were defeated with roughly half of our food remaining! Naan breads, rice and sides are always fresh. One thing worth mentioning is that there is no beef or pork on the menu. As an Indian restaurant I can understand why beef is missing, but I’m not too sure why there is no pork. However, the extensive range of chicken, lamb, prawn and fish curries more than make up for this. Now I can understand that on a Sunday night you want to close up quickly and go home, but I think switching the music off to play some obscure radio station from India is a bit inappropriate and unwelcoming. To summarise, the food here is very tasty and large portions, but as long as you don’t want beef or pork you will be happy!

Ordered butter chicken and tikka masala, they both tasted EXACTLY the same. Both dished were EXTREMELY sweet, no spice whatsoever. When approached the waiter he got very defensive right away, he got us a separate plate of chili sauce that we had to use and mix it, it could barely neutralize the extreme sweetness of this dish and make it just edible. Naan was also sweet which could of been ok if the sauce had the proper taste. Every single restaurant that I visited in London was great, except this one. DONOTGOTOTHISRESTAURANT… DONOTGOTOTHISRESTAURANT They get one start thanks to the mango Lassi, that is about it. …

Probably the best Indian curry restaurant in the area. However, I’m sure some will disagree. Everyone seems to have their own preference. They deliver quite far away, which I find very surprising(and great). The prices really aren’t bad. The quality is really good, and the service is even better. I highly recommend.

Complaints; cool night here in London and they had the air conditioning cranked up. It was freezing in there! Speaking of freezing, the veggie samosas were NOT made in-house(as admitted to me by the waiter) and they came to the table frozen on the inside. Not just cold… FROZEN! I made the waiter tear one in half. The chicken tikka masala did not taste like any I’ve ever had. It was sweet tasting with no flavor. Please avoid this dish. Just skip this place as there are so very many great Indian places in London.

Nice people and great prices, but the food was so-so at best. Our garlic naan were extremely sweet, the chicken masala sauce was not great, and in general all the dishes were edible but underwhelming.

Raj Of India is a clean and quiet escape from the usual Shepherd’s Bush mayhem around the corner. We were immediately greated and seated by very friendly staff and quickly brought papadums with delicious dips. We ordered garlic naan, chicken tikka masalla, chicken tikka biryani and I believe a bottle of Pouilly-Fume. The naan was perfect, both dishes were delicious and well spiced and the rice that accompanied the biryani was full flavoured. We will be back very, very soon.

Not impressed. Went for Sunday lunch buffet. Food was barely warm. Chana Masala was bland. Aloo Gobi was bland. Naan was sweet and not enjoyable. Onion Bhaji-like cluster was off. Mango Lassi was nice. Perhaps the a la carte menu, here, presents a wildly different experience, but I doubt that the same kitchen that produced the lunch buffet could manage such a leap. This spot’s menu fell far short of the mark in terms of appropriate level of spice and heat in good Indian food. Won’t be returning, despite my husband’s rave reviews that his buffet meal was«okay.»

I was in town for a business trip and there I was — sitting all alone. I had trekked out here because I heard wonderful things about the Raj of India. As an American who really enjoys Indian food and has been spoiled from living in the San Francisco Bay Area, this place lived up to my standards and more. The service was more than excellent — when it turned out that the garlic naan was baked more than it should have been, I was brought a new piece of naan right away. I ordered: * Dall * Rogan josh * Poppadam * Garlic naan All of the items were mouth watering. As the night was cold, this meal warmed me up and I couldn’t help but feel unwilling to leave after I ate my dinner — I’d rather just bask in the feeling of a full belly and a cozy restaurant. I also noticed the owner(?) greeting guests as they came in the door, treating everyone with respect, chatting with everyone from the workmen in orange vests to the established-looking couple in suits. In summary — great food plus gracious staff equals a highly recommended Indian restaurant.

A strong contender for best Indian food in London, this exquisite curry house is smack bang in between Shepherds Bush and Hammersmith. Their curries are delicious and vegetarian selections aplenty. If I am not mistaken, they have a whole section dedicated to vegetarian curries. Service is lovely; you get the feeling you’ve walked into a stately home in India, with the smartly dressed waiters and maître d’ warmly welcoming you. Food is always served piping hot on a little warming tray to keep your curry nice and warm till the very last bite. And like a reviewer pointed out, I very much look forward to my After Eight after the bill.

Honestly, I’d never tried Indian food before this place. I love it here. I came here with my boyfriend on Valentines Day of this year. We used the ‘Spoon’ app on his iPhone and decided to go with the first place that came up, and this was it! We were greeted well, seated straight away. It wasn’t that full despite being Valentines Day, but that was good for us! Service was reasonably quick and the food was yummy! I really enjoyed everything I ordered, but my tiny stomach couldn’t finish all the lovely food. The staff were really nice too and made us feel really welcomed and comfortable, but I think they were able to go the extra mile because they weren’t too busy. The only reason I’ve given it a 4 is because, despite the outside looking quite glamorous, the inside could do with a revamp. It’s not terrible, but I think they could make it look much better. I would come back here if I wanted Indian food again. We’ve been thinking about returning but haven’t had the money to do out to eat in so long! :o

Living in Hammersmith, there’s a wide choice of Indian restaurants to choose from, of varying quality. I have a super take-away near me, and was a fairly loyal customer at the Spice Of Night just over Hammersmith Bridge. Tried this place with my dad first time last year and keep going back. Nothing spectacular here, but solid and good staples. Love the dhansak and the mrs likes it too. So everyone’s a winner.

Unfailingly polite managers in black tie will recognise you on your second visit. The bills aren’t fancy but the food’s delicious. Try the chicken tandoori either as a starter or a main, it always comes sizzling hot and is as succulent as you could wish. All the dishes I have tried(most of the menu) come across as being full of fresh ingredients, and friends on their first visit always remark on this. You’ll always get a table as it isn’t as full as it should be, but those in the know return often. You couldn’t wish for a better local Indian. It’s a great place to go before or after visiting local cinemas, theatres, venues and of course the Westfield Centre. They do takeaways(they’ve got a website with their menu but they don’t deliver, which is a pity) and they’re open at lunch(though the staff are dressed casually then). Décor is typical of the genre. I’ve never had any cause to complain about anything, and unlike so many Indian restaurants, I’ve never been disturbed by a rowdy crowd out on the town. You’ll spend about £25 a head if you order way too much and have some beer or wine. 5 mins walk from Shepherd’s Bush tube. Take the 220, 72, 295 or 283 from Hammersmith, get out at Blythe Road stop and walk on up another 100m. Enjoy!

Raj of India is spectacularly ordinary; it’s a classic curry house serving all the dishes you would expect, and looks like it was last decorated in the eighties. Although the menu contains absolutely no surprises, I think it is the Raj’s very pedestrian nature that is its strength. Here you don’t have to worry about getting to grips with any exotic new dishes or specials… there aren’t any. You can order in your sleep and be pretty certain that what you choose will be exactly the same as last time you had it… and won’t make you throw up. You can turn up in your tracksuit on your own and not feel at all out of place, however busy it gets. Best of all, you get an After Eight with the bill!

This is a really great Indian restaurant. The food was fantastic, there was a nice relaxed atmosphere inside and the customer service on the whole was first class. I say on the whole as one waiter seemed to have a real attitude problem and the inability to crack a smile. The other staff however couldn’t have been more helpful. I didn’t order anything spicy, in fact I ordered a lamb tikka masala which was not on the menu but was prepared for me without question and it was divine. The 4 of us had poppadoms while we waited with some supplied dips and chutneys. We took a lot of time doing this and didn’t feel at all under pressure to hurry up and move on to the next course. My friend had a dish called buttered chicken which disappeared v quickly — my friend assured me that it was to die for! I’m told that this dish is hard to find and Raj are one of few who do it. The food was very much inexpensive, especially for London and yet it was one of the best Indians I have ever had.

I never liked Indian food until I went to the Raj! Whenever we go to London, the trip involves the Raj… Great Chicken Tikka. The poppadums and chutneys are addictive. I could eat a whole meal of poppadums(what am I saying, I’m sure I already have…). In fact, I love the Raj so much, that I’m afraid to try Indian food anywhere else. There are 2 places in Laguna, but I’m sure they’re not going to live up to the Raj… So hungry for some good Nan and chutneys I remain…

This curry house is absolutely delightful. The prices are very reasonable, the food is delicious, and the staff are always helpful and attentive. The chutneys and pickles tray is outstanding, including some lovely tandoori-fied items. These work best with the plain rather than spicy poppadums. The main courses etc are delicious. I love the house specials such as chicken chilli masala(quite spicy) and chicken achalli masala, but have been equally pleased with prawn saag and some lamb gost curries too. In addition to the above special dishes, they also do more well-known dishes such as bhunas etc. I also especially recommend their mushroom rice and channa masala. Note for music fans(this is how I found out about this restaurant in the first place): it’s five minutes walk from the Shepherds Bush Empire(which is one of the finest music venues in London) and approx ten minutes walk from the Hammersmith Apollo(previously Hammersmith Odeon). Note for real ale fans: it’s about five minutes walk from the Brook Green Hotel restaurant which does Youngs beers. At the time of writing, they have Winter Warmer on tap nectar! Highly recommended.

Love it! The food at Raj will stand up in a fight with most other Indian food in london, let alone the area. It really is the Indian restaurant to go to if you’re in Bush. The prawn purée is fantastic and the chicken tikka masala is probably the best I’ve eaten anywhere. In fact, my friend who lives quite a way aways, swears by this tikka masala. She actually challenged someone once, refusing to believe a better one is made in london! Good take out quality too, all in all, I’ll end as I started. love it!

The sunday ritual. Raj of India was our dinner on sundays. We would get it delivered or go to the restaurant. The latter, is better. The restaurant itself, is nicely lit, employees are very nice and will recommend and take their time to answer any questions on any dish you might have. The advantage of going to the restaurant is not just the service that you get but also the sauces(mango chutney, mint yogurt and a real spicy one!) that you can eat with crunchy poppadums. The dish to get is the Chicken Dansak, lentils cooked in hot and sour sauce served with pilau rice at £7.95 plus half pint of king fisher beer and you’ve had a nice meal for ten quid. Just remember a few things: if you are ordering for delivery there is a minimum of £10, if you do take away you get 10% discount, if you are a dare devil order the chicken Vindaloo(super duper hot), it made my english flatmate cry.

This is where we would usually go for a local eat-out Indian meal until I was introduced to an establishment of equal quality but nearer to my house. The Raj of India is nicely decked out. The outside has large white columns reminiscent slightly of Greek or Roman architecture. Or the Royal Exchange building — but smaller and whiter. Inside is very spacious, crisp and clean. The service is very good, attentive but not overbearing. I cannot find fault with the food and the prices are alright. I would probably recommend this Indian restaurant for a more romantic indian meal.
