Once you get yourself through the door this shop is a bit of a gem. Lots of typographic prints, pictures, lights… you know! There is a mix of vintage styles and modern pieces, and nothing is overly cute either, so buying things here isn’t going to turn your house into a carbon copy of every other vintage home wares store, so bonus points for that. The staff are really friendly, but not overbearing, so don’t be put off poking your head through the door if the shop is empty, as its not the kind of place and these aren’t the kind of people who make you feel awkward for browsing.

Pictures and light is an apt name for this shop as that is exactly what it sells. Bearing in mind that my idea of interior design is a few Ikea fairy lights and a wine bottle with a candle stuck in the top, I am not the best of people to pass judgment on such things. It is a pleasant enough shop with lots of Art Deco prints and fancy lighting equipment. They also have crockery, soft furnishings and a few other bits and bobs. It is a bit expensive and fussy for my taste but I’m sure my grandma would love it.

It’s safe to say that I don’t really frequent stores like this one, except for when I am trying to buy a present for my mother. I walked in relatively clueless as to what I was going to buy, but straight away found that the selection was good enough and I wouldn’t have to look any further. After browsing for a while, I decided that my taste in household items does not really correspond with that of my mothers. I ended up buying a few classic prints as I though it would be the safest option. Overall I found it a bit pricey, but maybe that could be put down to my naivety, as I’m not that great at knowing how good the quality of some things are.

This retro furniture store has a large range of unique items for the home. Most of the items are from the 50s, 60s and 70s, and the glass pieces are particularly good. The handpainted vases and glass lampshades are really different, and better quality than most retro stores. Its also a bit more expensive, although most pieces are very stylish. The posters and prints are pretty funny, and some of the retro 50s posters make for great wall hangings. Cheese always makes for a great investment. Its value never depreciates, and nostalgia only increases its value over time.

A perfectly nice, tasteful little shop selling a well chosen selection of perfectly nice household odds and ends, some crockery, furniture and posters. Everything is a little over-priced for what it is, mostly vintage pieces but not necessarily valuable. You feel that if you had the time and patience you could do a lot better a lot cheaper yourself at a bric-à-brac stall. That said, this is a decent option if you just can’t be bothered and like to have your stylish little objects picked out for you and attractively displayed.
