Rouge

Rouge is one of those shops that you always want to go into as it looks like it is filled with really great stuff, but yet once you are in there all this stuff is suddenly not what you are after, after all.
The street level floor is filled with really pretty Chinese-​esq nic nacs and potential gifts, but mostly not quite what you had in mind. Something about it just doesnt hit the mark, but thats maybe just me and my todays half-​hearted hunt for a trinkety type gift for a friend of mine.
Everything is beautiful, and I could happily buy lots, but always put back the things, as they arent really neccessary. pretty, but… er. blah, maybe? Nothing is really overpriced, but nor is it cheap enough to just randomly pick up sack fulls either. Or it could just be that I’m scared that I could easily turn my flat into a carbon copy of this place if I buy the candles, the vases, the flask, the pictures…
Its more arty-​classy stuff, not your typical China Town tat, so dont come in expecting to find a family of lucky cats or red paper lantens,
What brings this place up from being okay to pretty good is the furniture (housed mostly in the basement), which I love and is also pretty reasonably priced compared to other vintage shops, and the staff. they are relaxed and friendly (and carried my big chunk of a sideboard up two flights of stairs without a single complaint

I love browsing round this delightful little shop full of chinese bric-​à-​brac, furniture and curios. One day maybe I’ll even buy something!
There’s a selection of decorated chinese tea pots and tea cups, and various porcelain plates, silk purses for money or mobile phones, paper parasols, children’s slippers made of embroidered chinese silk, kites, paper lanterns and lampshades, and larger pieces of carved and painted furniture such as wooden chests and decorated mirrors. There are also postcards of old chinese photographs and various knick-​knacks.
This is a good place to look if you’re searching for an unusal present or homewares.

There are some very pretty things in this store, however if I’m in the market for country specific goods I tend to go to the source. I cant quite afford a furniture buying trip to China this year, but there is always China Town, which has a plethora of shops selling the kinds of thing stocked at Rouge at more competitive prices and with a more authentic atmosphere than Stoke Newington, it makes for a nice little day trip too.
There are some beautiful items in store and it’s plushly decorated in red (obviously) with lanterns and bows of blossom hung from the ceiling. The posters are beautiful and reasonably priced and the crockery would make for perfect presents.

Rouge specialises in Chinese and Asian furniture and home accessories. There is a vast selection of contemporary Chinese crockery (steamers, chop stick gift sets, handmade bowls, tea-​sets) a large collection of antique drawers and tables, ornamental lights and lanterns and an excellent collection of vintage advertisement posters from Hong Kong (they are absolutely beautiful and are only £10 each)
The best find of the shop is towards the back of the shop in the children’s section where we found some tiny Chinese child’s slippers for only a few pounds.

Your standard interior design and nic-​nac store that appeals to the Church Street yummy mummy parade.
The shop is primarily red (clues in the title), and crammed full of people pleasing bits and bobs for your home; you know the sort of things — candle holders, vase’s, ornaments, lots of Chinese symbols and Buddhas. Very nice, very zen. Hmmm. Rather over priced and generic if you ask me.

Asian style? This is the perfect place for you! From the moment you go in until you go out, you feel on another planet, it’s really calm, zen.
They’ve got furniture like small table that you can double up for £25.
They’ve got traditional clothes, you’ve got a huge selection of cards and there of course a lot of possible gifts for any house.
For me, prices are really nice and you’ll make the surprise by shopping there for your interior or for your friends.
I recommend this place more than any other one.
