Pearlfisher

This is another review that may not be so fair, since it’s all about something that you easily can’t do.
However, it’s something that must be talked about:
Adult. Ball. Pit.
Pearlfisher Gallery is getting some insane press these days because it opened a giant etherial ball pit only for adults, and it is amazing. Everything is white, from the walls to the balls. It’s in a gallery space within their offices. They closed off the room, added in stairs and put in 81,000 plastic balls for you to jump in.
That’s even the name of the exhibition: Jump In!
Before I get into the experience, I want to talk about the design firm, which I really like. They didn’t do this artwork for the exposure (although I’m sure it’s nice now). They did it because they wanted to spread joy. Literally, the world needed more joy. They also are donating £1 for every person through the door to charity. They do big and small projects around the world, each with the goal of making some sort of difference. Love that.
And now, the ball pit.
Have you ever just been surrounded, surrounded, by joy? Everywhere, all the time, forever. That’s what it feels like.
People keep asking me if it was as good as when you were a kid. It is better. You jump into thousands of little white plastic balls and all your worries and hate just melts away. How could it not? They have it padded on the floor so you can jump or swim or belly flop or do whatever you’d like and get right up to do it again.
My intern Pammie said it best: «Every office should have one of these.» True words.
It’s only a temporary exhibit and you have to book in to see it (and it’s been full forever) but if they move it or extend it, see it. You won’t be able to stop smiling for a week.
