Old Post Office Bakery

On a recent return, I found this humble quality organic machine to be firing on all cylinders. The behemothic spinach and feta rolls are tasty enough to overwhelm you, so much that alongside even good quality sausage rolls you may imagine the latter have taken on some cardboard. I believe they would also be at the top of their own league if there is one.

A real gem, I’ve been eating the wholemeal bread for years, excellent. Great to see thriving independent shops that have business because they do something well not because of expensive branding. Highly recommended.

This little bakery is a true gem. I recently found out that it is located just a few minutes away from my apartment and ever since I’ve been coming here almost every day. The baked goods that they offer are simply mouthwatering and delicious. Additionally the prices are pretty good and the lady that sells the products is always very friendly and even gives me samples sometimes.

My girl and I have a tradition of getting some of their yummy pastries and enjoy them while watching series of How I Met your Mother or Monk. Very pleasant times. Lovely indeed.

I walk by this place every morning and have to strain from not going in and buying out the place. Everything I’ve gotten there has been amazing (foccaccia is the only thing that isn’t incredible, but it’s still yummy). Favorites are: almond croissant, pain au chocolat, sausage roll, chelsea bun

I typically follow the crowds down Clapham High St. to the common whenever I’m in this area but a house viewing drew me down Landor Rd. I’m glad it did. On my way to the viewing, I passed the bakery on the far side of the street and mentally noted that it looked good, but maybe nothing special. On my way back I realised just how wrong I was.
I had just had my second breakfast of the day at Breads Etcetera (great place!) so hunger was far from my mind (or stomach for that matter). Thoughts of being too full fled once the delightful aromas emanating from this small bakery reached me, hooking me in and before I knew it I had reversed my path and ducked into a shop barely larger than my closet.
Seeing the look of dazed confusion on my face, the smiling lady behind the counter left me be with a «take your time, love» hiding the chuckle bubbling up from her lips. I elected to try something new (a spicy jamaican pasty) and one of my favourites (carrot cake). The jamaican pasty was all flaky pastry with a thin lining of spicy beans and sweet corn in between. I would have preferred more filling as the beans and corn were absolutely delicious but overall it was a tasty snack.
The carrot cake was moist and sweet in all the right ways, with nuts and chocolate covered flaked almonds adding a satisfying crunch. There was only a quarter inch of sugar icing which I prefer as it tends to let the cake speak for itself as opposed to overwhelming it with sweetness as all too often happens.
I’ll be back, probably tomorrow night as I take to the street of Clapham to find my next home. Oh and it’s dirt cheap with most cakes and pastries being around a squid and a half.

Lovely place to get your fresh breads! Hidden gem!

This place is an absolute find.
Unbeknown to the masses on Clapham High St, this bready delight is tucked away on Landor Rd just out of the way.
I argue to the court that this is the best bakery in the Clapham Area. A gutsy call… but…
Exhibit A — date and walnut bread. Drooooool.
Exhibits B, C, D, E, F.,… their cakes.
Exhibits G, H, I, J, K… the pastries! Objection you say? I will counter argue that their feta and spinach pastry is mindblowing. Judge over-​rules.
Case closed.
I live the other end of Clapham now but still trek up here on a Saturday morning.

Eating one (or two) of their still-​hot Pain au Chocolats on the way back from buying the bread on a Saturday morning is one of my great treats.
It’s great bakery with delicious breads that could be home made expect that you can’t make them this good. Worth going out of your way for.

Best bread and christmas cake I’ve ever tasted. Always look forward to eating the bread when I come to London and always feel the better from eating it.

Delicious bread and pastries (all organic), and in close proximity to my house — this place is truly amazing.
In fact, many people have probably eaten their fare without realising — they supply bread and rolls to most of the pub and restaurant kitchens in South London. Vegetarian friendly (my housemate was shocked to learn that their delectable ‘Sausage Roll’ was in fact meat-​free!), this is my first stop come Saturday morning. The staff aren’t always friendly (try getting a smile out of the hippy looking brunette) but when the food this good it doesn’t matter!

Excellent bakery in South London. Lots of different breads on offer, plus sweet and savoury goodies — the pain au chocolat is about the best I’ve ever tasted. But watch out — the good stuff sells out fast

The bread here is really superlative, with great consistency of quality. A very interesting range of breads (and popular selection of savoury snacks, cakes and pastries), and much better — and cheaper — than most of the stuff turned out by the big names. The sunflower bread is gorgeous.
They make a variety of sourdoughs, and a non-​wheat white loaf.

I’m always happy when I find a new bakery, and this is a cute little one. Sadly it’s a bit out of my way (though actually it’s only a ten minute walk from Clapham North tube), so I rarely come here. But it is lovely.
It was one of the first organic bakeries to open in South London, and has been running since 1982 — though I think they used to be in a different location. Not entirely sure whether their spot now really is an old post office.
Anyway, small as it is, they have a fairly good range of breads, cakes, tarts and pastries. Haven’t tried everything in here, but I can definitely recommend their apple crumble and the pastries. Mmmm.
