I really have no idea why people rate this place so highly. The curries are expensive and uninspiring. I’ve had better from Tesco. And it’s served cold to save on 20% VAT. Disappointing.

About the only place I’ve found anywhere near Highgate which sells edible, tasty curry. I’d particularly recommend the vegetarian options, especially the yam leaf curry, which you don’t often see, and the coconut and chille. Also, they have an ususual line in dishes based on whatever’s in season — eg beetroot. A few people can sit inside to eat but it’s not very big. It’s mainly takeway or catering for parties, etc. The only drawback really is the frightful plastic container they insist on putting takeaway thali in. Difficult to carry any distance without spilling it, and DON’T overheat it in the microwave when you get home as the box will collapse/disolve and your lovely tasty curry will end up all over the floor. I have no idea why they don’t change those. :( (Other dishes are put in sensible foil containers with proper lids.) Otherwise highly recommended!

The food here is great and as far as I can tell this is the best takeaway indian place in n2/n10; though I have hardly tried them all a big part of the reason for that is how good Majjo’s is. There are some staples there but the food changes based on what they cooked that day; thats part of the charm and also I bleiev ewhy the food is better than one of those places that does every dish you can think of on demand, out of the freezer and badly. As the other reviewer said its a local institution and seems to get plenty of business.

Decent«home cooked» Indian food which you buy cold and then heat yourself. Pricey for the size of the portions though. Worth trying if you fancy something a bit different.

In North London, Majjo’s is a bit of an institution amongst the locals, and it’s withstood the test of time for over twenty years. It’s a deli style Indian take away serving traditional North Indian and Pakistani food based on their hand-me-down family recipes. And there really is nothing like their grandmas cooking! If you want a decent curry in London you usually have to be prepared to pay the price, but here I think they’re very reasonable, with medium portions starting at £5 and the large portions from around £7. Although I’m not sure if they warrant the ‘large’ label as they’re just a regular take away size, and if you only order one each then there’s definitely none to save for breakfast. My favorite is their oven baked fish masala, the sauce is so super fresh and flavoursome that it really is mouthwatering. They also do a good selection of Indian teas, the Ayurverdic is particularly complimentary, and I wouldn’t have considered taking tea after a curry, but it washes them down surprisingly well. So for a Friday night you should really consider swapping your usual take away for a Majjo’s.
