La Cave a Fromage

A very nice place to go if you are in the area, I popped in for some cheese and wine whilst going to the Museums, the food and drink were amazing the service was great.
Was given a good roundup of which wines go with which cheeses, it was very informative.
The only issue I had was it was a hot day, so decided to sit outside, but right outside is a bus stop, so you get tourists pointing at your baked camembert and staring! But apart from that, it was great.

Like that you can buy mini-​sandwiches here and try a couple different flavor combinations. Minimum charge to use a credit card, though, so we had to add on a few things.
Sandwiches were good for pre-​made, but they still tasted, you know, pre-​made.

We went in for a cheeky glass of wine after a museum visit. As much as I like the concept of having wine and cheese in the shop where they sell the cheese its not really working in this case. The first red wine I chose was not to my taste. Same with my friend and her white wine, but that’s more down to us. I was hoping to get at least a few tasters of cheese with our wine to get business going. Nothing. Also the chairs were fairly uncomfortable and squeaky. All in all not something worth repeating.

As a Happy Hour (after my husband finished a project he was working on for his MBA study abroad program), we met up here to share the British Cheese and Charcuterie Platter for about 10 pounds with bottle of cheap house red for about 19 pounds.
For the amount of local smoked/​dried meats, creamy trademark cheeses like Stilton and the assorted fresh-​baked bread — one with olives and the other with apricot and nuts, we thought the platter was a steal. And it was nice to see more than a few options for 19-​pound house wine bottles.
The servers were very patient and helpful with us even though we came in with a half hour left until close. We just wished it had longer hours that go into the night like a wine bar because we had to rush our experience.

5 GBP sandwiches are unbeatable. I lived one block from this place and was addicted. From the cheese to the bread, I never ate anything less than phenomenal. I had some truly funky yet delicious cheeses that are impossible to find in the states. The raclette looked amazing, wish I had tried. If you go here you will not be disappointed.

You simply can’t be a wine lover and not visit this shop at least once a week. The selection of cheese is incredible and covers nearly every area of Europe so you can be pretty sure that your taste specification will be met here. I always go there with the idea of buying a certain kind and leave with a totally different type but never regretted my choice. The best part is that they even offer wines to go along with the cheese you’ve bought.

How about sitting at the back of a little cheese shop in South Ken having a slate of three very different cheeses (which have be eaten in a very specific order), three delightful meats and a basket of fresh artisan breads all for £10.
That’s what I did for lunch today, and hope to again soon!

Just lovely shop, so many kinds of cheese They all goes very good with my red wine! For all who loves good and delicious food, this is your place.

Shops like this make me glad to be living in Europe where our access to great local and European cheeses can’t really be rivalled
This specialist cheese shop is located close to South Kensington Tube station and for a cheesehead like me, it’s a treasure trove. However, I’m not sure whether it may be a bit intimidating for people starting to dabble in cheese. The staff responded well to my knowledgeable questions but a newbie could be overwhelmed by the sheer variety of cheeses, meats and wine on offer
They do different sized platters of meats and cheeses that you can eat in, which are perfect for a little snack or even a large snack!

One time I went to La Cave and bought a large jar of fois gras and ate the whole thing by myself in the course of a week. Very delicious.

I didn’t come here to shop. I came to drink and eat. And drink and eat I did. They do private parties after hours and so 15 of us sat down and enjoyed a medley of cheese and wine pairings and platters of cured meats. They take their work (or should I say art) and education quite seriously. The cheeses were exquisite as were the wines which kept flowing. The breads were quite good as well.
Bottom line is I’d buy cheese, wine and meats here in a heartbeat. They have a diversity of origins and fabulous service.
Only drawback about tastings here is no loo when you are consuming that much wine!

I planned a raclette party at home.
I wanted good cheese so I called La Cave a Fromage to know if they had raclette, how much for 4 people and if they have different types of Raclette.
I went there after work, chose the cheese and am told that I cannot have it sliced now, due to hygiene reasons, as their slicer is currently being used for meat, and they can’t just change it like this.
If I wanted my raclette sliced, I should have called the day before and place an order.
So they call their shop a FROMAGERIE, but I had to wait 30 min to get my raclette sliced
Honestly, only in the UK can they get away with this
The cheese was good, overpriced but good but I am not impressed with the shopping experience, at all

I like the fact you can hire La Cave for a function. I HATE turning up to buy cheese on a night they’re closed early for a function. Other than that, this is a wonderful little cheese shop.
Great for having a glass of wine and a few tastes of different cheese, or in winter a tartiflette or suchlike…
Improvable by opening a little later?

I’m French and here the cheese is like a religion, therefore, i had to go. good memories.

I have not been in London long enough to properly sample the ‘fromage’ offering. (I mean no offence to most people, but the milk (industrial?) byproduct you consider as cheese does not quite qualify as Fromage…)
On other hand, I come with very high expectations (see
for the Parisians… but there are so many others)
Part of me wanted to give La cave a Fromage 5 stars just for existing…
They obviously have a decent selection of cheese for that side of the Channel, and also sell cured meat. (charcuterie!)
I couldn’t see goat cheese that was as creamy/​dripping as I’d like, but I did not ask, and they probably have some that they hide not to scare the local crowd. I will update this review once I actually buy cheese there.
So, if I did not buy cheese, why the heck am I writing? I am getting there…
They also have 4 or 5 tables where you can have lunch, and sample cheese. That did not catch my eye, but…
Amid the decent selection of cheese in showcase I noticed a raclette machine! For those of you who never saw one, it’s like a tanning lamp.
The Swiss and French use it to melt raclette cheese.
The melted cheese is served on top of potatoes with charcuterie on the side. I know it’s not healthy, it’s not light, but that’s food porn… After years abroad, deprived of anything looking like a decent Swiss or alpine restaurant, I just couldn’t resist.
16 quids (with service) for 1 raclette and 1 wine glass (go with dry white wine).
(The portion is reasonable but not huge. That’s probably a good thing. If not eaten just at the bottom of a ski slope after a day of sports, a huge platter will transform your stomach in solid lead for a night. Same thing happens if you drink water at the same time, no matter the size of the portion)

I was so bored by the cheese I found in shops. They look like cheese, they smell like cheese but don’t have the taste.
As a french, cheese and wine are part of my culture, and I found the cheese heaven, it is there.
So many kinds of cheeses, the staff is very friendly and makes you taste before buying.

La Cave a Fromage is every cheese lovers heaven. It has the most amazing selection of over two hundred French and British cheeses, cured meats and jellies for the perfect cheese board.
You can smell the shop before you’ve even opened the door, I can only imagine that the people working here have no sense of smell left whatsoever! They don’t seem to mind though, I always find them to be helpful with a real passion for what they are selling. True cheese experts. You can ask to try anything on display (they are more than happy to let you do so) and then buy by weight. Try the Muscat jelly too, great for topping off the perfect cheese.
They also offer an online delivery service if you’re buying too much to carry home (hey cheese is heavy you know!) and a really useful ‘Ask The Expert’ page where you can e-​mail them all things cheesy. Great for when you’re not sure which wine will go with your new purchase.
And as the blackboard in the window says, «What’s a party without cheese?»

I’m a picky, fussy eater most of the time. Unless I set my mind to it, do not stray far from my comfort zone. My comfort zone extends beyond chocolate but as I’m hyper aware of taste, I shun anything I am unsure of.
This place has almost cured me of that. I had never tried any of the cheeses and most were not ones I would have chosen for myself. In fact, I would have shunned them all, being not cheddar :-)
I bravely entrusted my palette to the man in charge and the large glass of wine I had to wash everything down with and braved the cheese and BOY was I pleased that I did.
Each cheese was wonderful and all but the Stilton I would have again in a heartbeat. I would never have ever tried a goats cheese ever and yet there I was ENJOYING IT!
I highly recommend one of their matching evening and not just as a personal event but as a corporate event too. It would make an excellent evening for any reason. For me, it was a birthday celebration!

Had the good fortune to attend a La Cave cheese and wine tasting evening recently and was truly a fine experience.
A nice range of diverse cheeses were provided from potent goats cheeses, which were really quite nice (and that’s from a non goats cheese liker normally) to a red wine washed delight.
All cheeses were explained and accompanied with suitable wine, tasty bread and a selection of cured meats and other nibbles.
Strongly recommended for small groups keen to have a fun and knowledge expanding evening with a slight difference.

A cheese shop where you will find all type of cheese from Europe.
We had yesterday evening a degustation of 6 differents cheese: from smooth & light to strong & tasty!
The cheese degustation went with wine, white and red according to the cheese. The association was matching perfectly.
The staff is very friendly by giving advices and information.
La Cave a Fromage, with this French name, is a Europe escape which allow the mind to travel through savours.
Highly recommended.

One of my favourite local shops. The South African owner is lovely and has great suggestions, although you do feel as though you are being judged on how discerning your palate is when he asks you for your preferences.
Has a little sit down area where you can drink really affordable wine and sample a few cheeses. Even my boyfriend would appreciate the value for money! Only complaint is I wish it were open a bit later after work.

When I step into Le Cave Formage, I take a deep breath and breathe in the smell of cheese at its finest! This shop is a marriage of French and British cheeses and exists purely out of a love for making fine cheeses. Some of my favourites are the soft and creamy cheeses such as pom calva and ami du chamertin.
There bleu des basques and Montgomery cheddar are great for salads. Prices are higher than the grocery store, but worth the cost!
