Holiday Inn Express Hotel London-Swiss Cottage

Location, value, and excellent customer service. By reserving through a travel website, we paid a third of the posted rack rate of 275 pounds per night, so it pays to shop around. Clean rooms, good linens. Our room faced away from Finchley so was very quiet. Amazing buffet breakfast, free wifi, and the manager gave us late check-​out (12:30) for free. Tube station across the street. My new favorite place to crash in London.

First and foremost, we would like to actively discourage potential future guests from staying at this particular branch of the Holiday Inn Express.
We booked a room at the Swiss Cottage for three nights in early January 2016. After being sent to a room with a leaking toilet and requesting to be moved, we were instructed by a member of reception to stay in the room until his colleague could «take a look» at the situation. Once the staff member’s colleague arrived and confirmed that there was indeed water on the ground, we were sent — without apology or acknowledgment of any inconvenience by either employee — to another room. After entering the second room, whose windows did not open and which smelled strongly of cleaning chemicals (the scent being noticeable from several doors down), we explained the situation to both employees and requested being moved to a satisfactory room, upon which the initial receptionist retorted that the hotel «does not use any chemicals.» After explaining that one of our party has asthma and that the initial room with the leaking toilet did not smell noxious like this second one, the receptionist instructed us to wait once again while he surveyed the scene himself. Upon his return, he flatly insisted that he did not «smell anything» and did not offer an alternative.
After having to resort to supplication, we were ultimately assigned a third room, which turned out to be adequate (no leaking toilets or noxious smells). Rather than being offered an apology for having to relocate three times or receiving help moving our bags up and down floors, we were met with increasing obdurateness and hostility. Because of this, we spoke to the receptionist’s manager the following morning, who noted her employee’s lack of hospitality and assured us she would find a way to «make it up» to us (including a potential waiver of our first night’s fees; our entire stay was paid in advance).
Upon the third and final morning of our stay, after hearing no word from the manager, we requested to speak with the guest service manager and asked about the refund that was potentially offered us by his colleague. Upon being approached, the manager told us he could not offer us a refund and instead brought out the hostile member of staff from Day #1 to «give his side» of the situation. After explaining to the manager that we did not desire (or have time for) an extended debate with the hotel staff, the manager became hostile and intimidating, interrupting our requests to be heard and insisting that his employee was a «very polite» gentleman who saw the situation «differently.» The manager gave us our receipt and phatically asked whether we were «happy with the charges,» to which we told him we were not, and to which we were once again ignored with insolence.
In sum, we left the hotel feeling harassed and disrespected. Suffice it to say we will never stay here again, and would recommend looking elsewhere for courteous service and comfortable lodging.

Really liked this hotel.
–If you take the Tube to the hotel, get off at Finchley Rd. (on the Jubilee and Metropolitan lines). The hotel is one block north along Finchley Rd from the stop right across from the O2 Centre.
Do NOT get off the Tube at the Swiss Cottage stop even though this hotel has Swiss Cottage in it’s name. That stop is quite a ways to the south.
–Check in was efficient and friendly. They met my request for a high floor. I also received a room on the back side of the hotel which was quiet.
–Room was small but otherwise nice. Bed was comfortable.
–I though the wifi speed was fine. I will say that one of the routers was inside my room, so that may have helped. What I didn’t like about the internet was that I had to log in again every single time I used my computer, instead of every 24 hours or every week like other hotels. That got annoying quickly. It is free.
–Bathroom was nice but some parts could use some improvement. I didn’t like that they have a couple bottles of soap/​shampoo combos mounted to the wall (one in the shower, one by the sink). I’d rather have the minis and bar soaps that you get at most hotels. The shower is tiny.
–Breakfast was very good. Good selection of hot and cold items.
–There’s a few restaurants in the neighborhood. I stopped at Remon (Italian food and coffee) for take out a few times. Didn’t care for the lasagna, but the pizzas were excellent. It’s on the west side of Finchley about half a block south of the hotel.
–The hotel is a few minutes outside of central London, but with the Tube so close it’s not an issue at all. The hotel was cheaper than other more centrally located options I looked at, but still pretty pricey. Really though, EVERYTHING in London is expensive.

I had five teenage girls in the adjoining room. These girls were yelling and screaming all evening. At 12:15 I asked the night manager to come up. He did promptly. A second trip was made at 1:15, followed by a phone call. The next morning hotel management had a new room for me, moved my belongings during the work day, and an apology. This was a class act on their part! Well done.

Very clean hotel. Great location. Good breakfast. But the room was very small. It was supposed to be a family room, but the bed my daughter got was a joke, more like a box spring with no mattress. We complained and they gave us a duvet for her to lie on

Un hôtel au rapport qualité prix très bon (résa par internet à 77 livres, petit dej compris, soit environ 90 EUR). A 20mn en bus de Piccadilly Circus (bus 13). Chambra spacieuse, literie très confortable, très bon accueil, petit déjeuner très correct.
Bonne insonorisation, sachant que la chambre donnait côté cour, et non côté rue.

Die Zimmer sind sauber und die Größe ist angemessen. Die Lage ist sehr verkehrsgünstig die U-​Bahn-​Station Finchley Road ist in unmittelbarer Nähe.
Leider ist die vielbefahrene Strasse auch nachts sehr laut die Fenster sind nicht schalldicht.
Das Frühstück hat mir nicht geschmeckt. Die Auswahl der Speisen und Getränke ist zu gering. Außerdem muss man warten, bis saubere Tassen oder Gläser aufgefüllt werden.
Der Check-​In Vorgang war äußerst kompliziert und langwierig. Reklamationen werden nicht bearbeitet.

Cons: we reserved a double bed and was given a pullout sofa bed super uncomfortable. The did kind of fixed the situation with an extra comforter. Which was greatly appreciated.

I would happily upgrade this review to a 5 star if they could magically lift the building from it’s foundation and relocate it slightly more East. I tend to spend a vast majority of my time in Camden when I’m visiting London. If this place just shoved itself over a few clicks Mama would be in business. However … I’m certain the incredibly reasonable price would kick up faaaarrrrr too many notches for this little lady!
I’ve stayed in 4 different London hotels and this is the one that 1 — impressed me the most and 2 — because of the good impression, I returned for another visit.
Pros:
** CLEAN — Super duper clean.

** Proximity to tube stop. — Finchley Road (Metropolitan & Jubilee Lines)
** Friendly Staff
** Directly across the street from the O2 shopping Centre. (Sainsbury’s saved me more than once. Wetherspoons — big bar chain — was nice, clean and convenient for the occasional necessary beverage.)
** BREAKFAST!!! It’s free. Every morning! Brilliant! Toasts, juices, cheese, pastries, cereal, coffee, tea, fruit, yogurt. Fantastic light, yet filling, way to start the day.
** SO reasonably priced! I couldn’t BELIEVE the deal we got! 3 nights for less than £200.00 (granted, this WAS in February … not exactly prime tourism time).
Cons:
There is but ONE issue I have with this lovely hotel. Finchley Road station is SLIGHTLY out of the way. It is a little North and West of Central London. I am lucky enough to have friends who live in London who familiarized me with the bus system which made it much easier to get around town.
Bottom line though, there are so many redeeming qualities about this place that regardless of its slight out-​of-​the-​way nature, I would definitely stay there again.

Ich kenne drei Hotels der Kette in London, aber dieses hier fand ich am schlechtesten. In erster Linie, weil das Personal so wenig zuvorkommend war.
Eine Zeitung morgens war nicht zu bekommen, obwohl ich diese als Stammkundin (Priority Club Gold) eigentlich bekommen sollte. Auf Nachfrage sagte man mir jeden Morgen, sie hätten keine mehr. Nach 19 Uhr kommt man nur mit seiner Zimmerkarte ins Hotel. Die Lobby war enorm verraucht.
Dafür war das Zimmer wirklich in Ordnung. Das Hotel ist zudem barrierefrei. Gegenüber gibt es ein kleines Einkaufzentrum mit großem Supermarkt und vielen Restaurants. Die U-​Bahn ist um die Ecke.
