I absolutely loved my appointment with Massa! After a few failed attempts at various salons including Headmaster and Envy, I finally found a hairstylist that knows what she’s doing. I was struggling to find a stylist that would give me the same experience as a salon in the states, I even thought maybe I’ll just live with an ugly haircut for as long as I live in London. She first started off with a very relaxing shampooing process, followed by a bonus relaxing shoulder massage and a fantastic trim. What I loved about my layered haircut is that she started off with trimming my wet hair, then she continued to correct/​style/​trim when hair was dry. I’ve only experienced this method being done at Carlton hair in Beverly Hills and I think this is the best method to cut hair. What I hated about other salons in London, they do not texturize your bottom bits and you’ll come out with a bushy haircut. In Hayato, you will get highly trained hair stylists that are comparable to the professionally trained ones from NYC or Beverly Hills. I can tell when Massa blended my hair very well so everything was crafted to my taste.

What a charming hair salon — this was my first visit and I was greeted with a hand written note filled with well wishes. I was offered a drink upon sitting, and as the staff bustled about, I also got the most amazing shoulder massage ever (THANK YOU).
Once comfortable, the stylist came by and asked me what I was looking for. I decided to let him decide what was best/​most fitting and he was happy to take the lead. I left the shop extremely happy and very stress-​free!

This is my second time getting permanent hair straightening (aka japanese yoko straightening aka hair rebonding) done at Hayato and I can say I will definitely be going for a 3^rd time. I naturally have very curly dry hair (arabic) and Hiro my hairdresser did an amazing job. My hair is straight from root to tip, including the baby hairs!
The ambience in the place is amazing — greeting you with magazines, a drinks menu, lovely head massages during hair washes and non intrusive music playing in the background. Even when I was reading my book during the lengthy treatment I was given a pillow to help prop the book up.
I cannot recommend Hayato enough, even sending me an appointment reminder confirmation to my email to make sure I don’t forget.

I really, really like Hayato!
I am pretty bad at remembering to book hair appointments in advance, so when I realised last week that my hair was in desperate need of some attention… I called around a few of my favourite hair salons… but they were all booked up. Unilocal came to the rescue, so I called a few more places, but Hayato was the first to have a slot on Saturday morning. If you’re rubbish at booking in advance, it’s still worth trying here.
Why I loved it:
— The service is like being in Japan… they were really friendly, polite and sweet.
— They wrote a little message to welcome me
— They gave me juice
— Maasa, was soo lovely. I had a pretty haircut and a fun chat.
— Maasa gave my head a massage while she washed my hair… and then gave an upper-​back massage before she started to chop off my hair. It was incredibly relaxing and made me a little bit in love. I totally forgot about the massage part of Japanese hairdressing… it made my whole world happier.
— I love the haircut (plus my husband said it was his favourite cut since we moved to London — yay!)
— The staff all had fantastic English, but they were also happy to chat to me in Japanese so it was really good to have a good chin-​wag. I realise that not all Unilocalers want to have a chat in Japanese… but it was nice for me.
— I used a 20% discount when I checked into Unilocal — yay!
It would be a little pricy without the Unilocal discount, so I’ll probably just come here occasionally when I need a really good haircut and bit of pampering.

I made a booking for a Saturday morning, and the place was much quieter than I was expecting. I was greeted by the staff at reception who turned out to be Maasa, my hairstylist that day. My appointment notification initially said that I was going to get my hair done by Marine, but I didn’t mind having either to do my hair as it was my first time. She took my coat and bag to be kept away safely in the wardrobe. I was given a questionnaire to fill in before being shown to my seat, where Marine ask about how I wanted my hair to be cut. There was a sweet little note on the side that had my name on it, which was a nice touch. There was also a drinks menu on the side, but I wasn’t offered a drink so I was a bit shy to ask for one. She then brought me over to get my hair washed. She was very gentle and also gave a relaxing head massage during the hair wash. I was then shown back to my seat where I was also given a comfy cushion to rest my hands on. Maasa made sure to check that she was cutting according to how I wanted it and that she didn’t cut off too much as I told her that I wanted to keep it as long as possible. After cutting, she dried my hair — she was extremely gentle with the brush unlike most places that I go to that sometimes tug quite hard. After it was dry she tidied up my hair and thinned it out a bit. I mentioned that I liked having the ends of my hair curled inwards and she very patiently curled the ends with a thong, which turned out really well. She then applied some hairspray for me.
At the end she asked if I had time for a shoulder massage, which I smilingly agreed to. The shoulder massage was excellent, with a good amount of pressure.
As it was my first time, I made use of the offer for New Customers which was £40 instead of £50. I was given a copy of the price list, and the associate level haircut is actually the cheapest at £50, which then can go upto £100 for «Hayato» level stylist. I have to be honest and say that this place will unlikely be my regular spot because it is quite pricey without the New Customer offer, compared to other places. It was still however overall a very pleasant experience.

Best hairdresser ever! I can’t praise this place enough. When it comes to hair everyone is different but for my hair type (long and thick) it can be a struggle to find somewhere that knows what they are doing. For the quality of work alone I would keep coming back, their business is hair and they really know it well. They offer a wide range of treatments, including digital perm and japanese hair straightening.
I have a suspicion that Kasumi, an associate stylist who I always request as she did such a great job the first time I went, cares more about my hair more than I do. She is not afraid to say no if she doesn’t think something will be right for an individuals hair, and this is really a good quality in a hairdresser. She always suggests products tailored to my hair and takes a lot of time to learn about a persons hair related lifestyle and keeps a file updated in each visit.
The little touches really make a difference and are what really ruin any other hairdressers for me now, my name and a personal message is always written on the mirror waiting for me, the lovely massage, the service from all staff.
The proof is of course in the pudding and I can honestly say that absolute strangers comment on my hair, I am often asked where I get my hair done including once at a Unilocal event, and once when in another hairdressers (I popped in to buy some products and a hairdresser came over and asked me where I got my hair done!) so they must be doing something right!

Quite possibly the best hair salon in London. I’ve been getting japanese hair straightening from them for several years and they never disappoint. Amazing service, great cuts, relaxing environment and decent prices (not to mention all the specials offers).
