In 1964 Grumbles started serving good bistro food and wines at friendly prices and we are still doing so nearly half a century later.
Grumbles has an extremely strong following who have always been impressed by the delicous English, French & Italian Bistro style cooking. Whether one would like the Grumbles Fillet Steak, the Fish Pie or the Grumbles salad there is always something on our menu to appeal to all.
We also boasts one of the cheapest wine lists in London, the Château Cissac, Cru Bourgeois, Bordeaux at £22.95 or a more affordable Chilean Merlot at £15.75 are just to two examples of the incredible value we offer our customers.
Grumbles offers a unique experience to all, come to our cosy restaurant to enjoy our traditional dishes and we can assure we won’t dissapoint!
History
Established in 1964.
We began in 1964. It was the time of the Beatles and Rolling Stones and an air of great fun. Anything seemed possible — it was the Sixties! Grumbles was the first restaurant in London with a silly name!
Many things were happening in the world. Nelson Mandela was sentenced to life imprisonment: BBC2 was started: there was the great train robbery: Labour was back in power and Dr Martin Luther King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
The most expensive dish on the menu was fillet steak at 9 shillings and sixpence (45p) and house wine was the same. The average bill for two was well under £3.
In the early days as we rushed around the tables, we hardly had time to notice the faces of the likes of Beatles, Mamas and Papas, Julie Christie, Christine Keeler, Ian le Frenais, Rod Steiger and so many many more as well as Jane Lapotaire sometimes helping with the washing up !
Grumbles and its customers have been a winning combination for forty eight years and we thank you for your support.
