Green Village

Excellent Turkish and Mediterranean Food. Excellent fish and chips. They love American Tourists. Ate here a lot when on a business trip to London. Staff and food are excellent and very affordable. I especially loved the Kofta wrap and fries. They even have a liquor license.

Waste of money and time. Very very bad food — if it was for free it still would be too expensive! If you read this BEFORE you go in — leave as fast as you can!!!

As mentioned in previous reviews, I am a huge fan of Greenwich’s independent cafés and restaurants, squeezed as they are by the Gourmet Burgers and McDonalds.
On the face of it, Green Village Restaurant should be an appealing prospect: independent, owned by the same family for about 30 years, always doing a good trade. But I was grossly disappointed…
Firstly, there was a surprising amount of rudeness when we first entered and enquired about a table: «wait here», they said brusquely. After 10 minutes of hanging about and not knowing whether to leave or wait, we were nonchalantly led to a table.
We sat at the table unsupervised and had to ask for a menu several times — these were finally dumped on our table without a word from the waitress, who sped off without even asking if we wanted drinks.
The next 15 minutes were spent trying to catch the waiter or waitress’s eye so that we could order our drinks and meals.
It was a further 45 minutes before we were served our food, which was classic microwave ready-​meal fare. This was very disappointing, because all the other eateries in the area cook their own food and for the prices we paid, I think it’s inexcusable to serve up microwave stuff (though my chicken kiev was nice-​ish…).
The waiter was moody throughout, even when I asked if they had a bathroom.
I’m not sure if they’d had some bad family news (or something else that had impacted on their mood and attitude), but there was a very hostile atmosphere in there. I thought perhaps they were just feeling the pressure of a New Year’s Day rush, but then I remembered that they’ve been in business for decades so really should be used to seasonal peaks. If they were busy and understaffed, it would have been polite to have warned us in advance because they nearly made me late for the cinema (Life of Pi — not a bad film actually). It was only at the very end, after paying the bill, that the waitress apologised for the poor service.
Apparently I was taken there a few times as a child. I have no memory of this, but if true, I will probably wait another 25 years before going again.

waste of time, money and everything you can think of. I went there when I was on vacation in London a few days ago. I was looking for some good fish and chips nad i heard that place was good. well guess what, i walked in, was greeted by an old fat man who didnt even bother saying hi. The fish and chips was disgusting, the drinks were pricey and the service sucked.

I love chance findings of amazing restaurants, and that exactly sums up my Green Village Restaurant experience.
After checking out 0º Longitude a friend and I decided to grab some food at a nearby café. I saw a Gourmet Burget Kitchen and was tempted, but luckily my friend noticed a Turkish diner and we opted for that instead.
From the outside, the place looked rather small, but went very far back from the street and at the time happened to be full of at least 30 student tourists from Spain. The owner/​manager/​server/​friendly old man greeted us warmly at the door, seated us (in a small annex away from the loud kids), and took our drink order. We were going to need some time with the menu…
The menu was impressive – A large selection of appetizers, kebabs, curries, American burgers, fish and chips, and even desserts. After some consideration, I ordered the hummus to share as a starter, and the Adana Kebab for my entrée.
The hummus was average: a solid Unilocaler’s 3.
The kebab was spectacular: two huge portions of seasoned meat grilled to perfection atop a bed of rice. The rice was crowned by a generous dollop of sweet and cooling yoghurt to one side and a spicy red sauce to the other. I found mixing the spice and yoghurt made the perfect sauce for the kebab. At the very top sat a mixed salad – perfect to add an occasional bit of crunch.
A couple at a nearby table ordered a tasty looking cheesecake for dessert, and had I not been stuffed beyond reason by the huge entrée, I would have given in to the urges to do the same. Passing on dessert, we asked for the bill, paid, and had a pleasant chat with the friendly old man and his wife before leaving. It’s always great to end delicious meals with engaging conversation!
I highly recommend Green Village – There’s a menu with something for everyone and the staff is helpful, prompt, and friendly.
