It’s cheap chinese food that is more authentic than food in America. I don’t know what Riley’s talking about, but her review was five years ago, but the server here was very friendly and talked with me on a few occasions. The atmosphere was fantastic and I found myself drawn to the pictures on the wall, which the server said were memories of the country. It was plenty spacious, quiet, and very calm. The food? Well, I had orange duck(As opposed to orange chicken, which was on the menu too, I wanted duck), and she brought the food out quickly. It was crispy, warm, flavorful, and yes I would have that time and time again. The prices are affordable and of course it’s great for just stopping in. It can be hard to notice though, just know it’s almost under the green bridge and on the side of the Queen Mary campus

3.5÷5 Geez! Well it seems that things have improved today in 2014 compared to how Golden Bird must’ve been, based on the 2 thumbs-down out 2 Unilocal reviews on this page. I came to Golden Bird since it was hard finding any other Chinese food joints surrounding Mile End station. I found the service very welcoming, the prices more than reasonable, the interiors«basic chic» and the ambiance comfortable. So far, so great for a Zone 2 spot. I ordered the Chicken and Pineapple Fried Rice for takeaway– it sated my hunger(and I definitely have enough for an extra meal tomorrow) but it didn’t ‘wow’ me. It was pretty good but didn’t send me over the moon like Islington’s Oriental Gourmet(their special fried rice was sublime!). I’ll be sure to try other dishes next time, but I would totally return for they’ve done everything else very well. If you’re around the Mile End, Bow Road or Stepney Green area, this is definitely worth a shot!

The service was borderline hostile when I was there with a large group. On top of that, the food wasn’t great either. I had chicken fried rice, and it was incredibly bland. Others had noodle dishes, which were a bit better. Bottom line: won’t be going back there again.

Stopped by this Chinese restaurant here with a few friends after lectures to unwind but found myself oddly unsettled by the haughty service and the duration of time for our meals to be prepared(35 – 40 minutes) had us feeling a bit peeved. The food itself wasn’t very good at all — the portion size was okay but my Crispy noodles had the texture of a birds nest and my friends Ho Fun noodles tasted like eel skin. There are alot of restaurants on this road so I definitely suggest going somewhere else. in terms of quality, it is more like the ‘Pewter’ Bird.
