I ended up at Dehesa on Friday evening, after my friend and I tried to go to Dishoom in Carnaby at 9PM, only to hear that there was a 45 minute wait even at that hour. Dehesa is right next door and it is a sister restaurant of Opera Tavern, which I went to a few months ago and had a great time. We didn’t have to wait long for seats at a sharing table, which is essentially a long table with groups of 2 seated across from each other in a row(this is similar to Ottolenghi Islington’s arrangement). We ordered 2 of the croquettes, the pork belly, braised ox cheeks, crab gnocchi, and grilled portobello mushrooms. The croquettes were great, but the main dishes were marred by the fact that they were served either lukewarm or cold. We sent back the crab gnocchi after my friend asked the waiter if it was meant to be served cold. They brought back another version and it was still partially cold. The food also took an exceptionally long time to come out. And there was no apology on the part of the restaurant. This may have just been a problem with the staffing of the restaurant on that day, or something overlooked by our server, but I was very disappointed with the service. Dehesa is part of a well known group of restaurants and I had high hopes for it, but unfortunately on this occasion it did not deliver.

If you’re strolling around Carnaby Street in the middle of Soho on a weekday evening(any day after Tuesday) and are looking for a spot to eat without a reservation, you’re in trouble! We found ourselves in that very spot on a busy summer Wednesday evening. It was drizzling, but the streets were packed with tourists, office goers and everyone else just looking to have a good time. We love Tapas and took a chance and asked Dehesa if they had room for 2. First they told us it was an hour wait and then when we asked if we could hang out at the bar, the host took us to table at the back & said we could use it, if we promised to vacate within an hour(he had another reservation past that). With neck to neck tables, and barely any place to go squeeze in and out between tables, Dehesa really is a test of your ego! We quickly ordered our tapas — Sauteed Prawns with Riso di Venere, Manzanilla Sherry & Toasted Walnuts and the Trofie pasta with Aubergine, Fig, Pine Nuts, Mozzarella and Tomato Sauce. It all sounded very fancy, but looked quite ordinary when it arrived! Not blown away with either of the two plates — the pasta dish was too tomato-y and that overpowered everything else. The prawns were slightly chewy and lacked any real flavors. Prices range between 7 – 9GBP as an average. Overall my verdict would be that this is a decent place to grab a few drinks and then move on to someplace else for the food. As an aside, they had a great cheese selection, so might be worthwhile to try it.

Dehesa is a longtime favorite. My latest visit was late on a Saturday afternoon for a glass of wine and some nibbles. The outdoor seating area is first come, first served so we missed out on that. We were able to be seated in the main(read: intimate) area and there’s also communal seating in the bar. The service was friendly and reasonably efficient. The Sangiovese wine by the glass was nice. Hubby and I ordered the Spanish cheese plate and the Italian charcuterie plate, both of which were outstanding. We also ordered extra bread, which was amazingly delicious. It was the perfect late-day refueling stop. A tip: book ahead if you’re visiting for dinner.

Carnaby street is a huge shopping destination so I often forget about all the lovely little bars and restaurants in the area. Dehesa is one of those places, a lovely little tapas bar at the corner of Ganton Street, great for a glass of wine after shopping or work. You can also select a few tapas dishes to share between your group or if you are quite hungry you can pick the set menu and sample lots of different flavours. I particularly enjoyed the chorizo, the trout and the aubergine as well as the deserts that were all great! If you would like to book the place for a professional occasion you should consider the downstairs dining room that fits about 15 people. We booked it for a company dinner and were all very satisfied with it. The staff were all very attentive and were always trying to make sure everything was ok, while topping up our water and wine. In general everyone had a lovely time, enjoyed the food and drinks and we were also able to have a great discussion without the music being overpowering. I would definitely recommend the place and will have it in mind for future events in the area.

TAPASTAPASTAPAS! Quite close to where I work this a spot I frequently visit for drinks/food after work. The Restaurants itself has a great atmosphere and ambiance(quite low lighting but BIG windows so natural light pours in) The tapas is definitely in my top 3(excluding going to Spain itself) … Portions are very adequate considering you should really be getting a few and every one is so wonderfully put together and the ingredients combined are so magnificent you can get lost in a world of flavours and textures… It’s always hot as well, Bonus! Wine helps and they have a pretty good selection! Well worth a visit!

Can be very crowded on weekends, but great when visited during off peak hours(eg 3pm). Food is great, albeit the narrow range. But nothing beats their bread! It’s what keeps me coming back for more.

A great place to get tapas! I recommend the pork with truffles and the octopus! There’s a good selection of Spanish and Italian wine. And the location is very nice, it’s nearby carnaby street.

Went there on a late Sunday afternoon: — located — it is a venue that’s stylish and pleasant but fully focused on the plate and in the glass — Dehesa is a charcuterie and tapas bar inspired by the cuisine of Spain and Italy — sat outside, not very busy at that time — there is also a private dining room available(which can be booked for lunch and dinner); reservation recommended during busy times(online booking) — capable and friendly staff — they offer tapas, pudding, charcuterie as well as bar snacks — the back of the menue is a paean to the pig, in Spanish and Italian derivations, offering hams on and off the bone, including an entry-level, acorn-fed jamon iberico; few cheeses, too — however, we found most pleasure in the tapas menue: Confit Octopus with Pink Fir Potatoes and Sautéed Sprouting Broccoli(9GBP), Grilled Scallop with Crispy Morcilla, Sweetcorn Purée and Salsa(5.5GBP), Classic Tortilla(5GBP) and Pimientos de Padron; fish dishes were very small, tortilla and pimientos larger portions; all dishes very yummy Conclusion: Delicious tapas, nice seating outside, friendly service!

For some reason, I think restaurants near Carnaby Street are mostly catered to tourists. Then I found out that Dehesa is actually a sister restaurant of Salt Yard, which I really like. So I decided to give it a go. The place is quite cozy, so it is quite perfect for smaller groups. I took two friends from out of town there. We focused mostly on catching up, so just ordered a cheese board a charcuterie board and a couple of hot dishes. It is definitely not a tourist trap, as the food was quite delicious and I especially like the stuffed courgette flower. However, the prices are definitely for tourists. And the services weren’t that great. I will go back again to try more hot dishes and the desserts, as they sound quite enticing.

Food: We ordered the bread, jamon serrano, padron peppers, prawns, beef and patatas fritas. Everything was very good. Drinks: We ordered two glasses of red wine. Price: For two people we paid 61.88GBP. Ambiance: The restaurant has a very easy vibe about it and was comfortable. Service: The service was great. Our server was very nice, attentive and helpful. Would I go back? Yes, if I was in the neighborhood and in the mood for tapas.

Great tapas bar. Loved the wild boar, and also enjoyed the asparagus and octopus. Interesting food selection that was topped off with a solid atmosphere. Not as amazing of a beer selection as you’d expect in London, but the pubs nearby have that covered.

Hmmm, once upon a time, it was a great venue. Now, I think the food quality has dramatically gone down… I had to send backs few dishes and nothing is right… Some too salty, some burned, some with not enough flavours… The best thing there, cold cuts and toast :-) I am not sure if people can taste what they are eating… If you are in the area and craving for Spanish, try to go to barrafina or brindisa. They are much better. Even coffee is not great… I think the price is quite moderate considering the location. Don’t be fooled — you would be much better going elsewhere. Such a shame considering how good the venue once was and also strange considering it is a part of the group which owns many other Spanish place in town.

Really creative tapas, with Italian, French, and English influences put to good use. Come here if you want some interesting alternatives to regular tapas. The prices are reasonable, the portions are decent. The only downside is that its such a tight squeeze inside, and the service didn’t seem up to par for the 12.5% service charge. I’ve been here a handful of times, maybe four or five. The little piquillo peppers, when they have them, are fantastic. It’s tiny, and seating is crowded and generally in group-dining style. It’s often very difficult to get seated, though once you do, it’s worth it. Excellent wine list, with many great Riojas. It has a staircase to the bathroom that may give you vertigo, and often there’s a pig’s leg propped up on some cutting apparatus in the front right corner. If you’re lucky, you can fetch the seat right below it. Because who doesn’t want to eat with a pig’s hoof dangling above your head. All in all, great tapas, highly recommended. And if the wait is too long, there’s never a wait at the Thai restaurant next door. It’s not that great, but hey, for an immediate backup, what do you want? It’s probably not fair to attribute that to Dehesa, but I don’t care, I’m doing it! You gonna stop me?

I’ve eaten here several times. Excellent tapas style dishes. High quality ingredients, well designed combinations of flavours and textures. Executed to a high and consistent standard. The menu looks like it changes with the season and has a selection of vegetable, fish and meat dishes. You need about 3 dishes per person so it’s a good way to try out different items. Personal favourites include the pork belly with canellini beans(really tender and really crispy skin) with just the right level of rosemary coming through. Other reviewers also mention this one! The mackerel with bean and pepper salad was great as well as the stuffed courgette flowers. On a previous visit they had the most wonderful variation on bread pudding which was simultaneously soft, light and crispy but doesn’t seem to be on the menu any more. Deserts on my most recent visit weren’t quite as good as last time. It’s a small den of a place with a cosy feel on the corner of Kingly St and Ganton St. so a good place to stop by in the centre of town. Perfect for two, you can sit at the bar or for 3 people they have a few tiny booth tables that are just big enough. Not good for a crowd. Gets crowded even on a Monday when I visited last. Service is straightforward and the prices are fairly high but it’s made up for by the excellent food.

On our visit to London, my friend took us to Carnaby St. We had so much fun there that we decided to go try more restaurants around the area on or third night in London. After a whole day of doing tourist things, we decided to walk around the area and settled at Dehesa for some yummy tapas and wine! We tried a lot of food there. They have a great selection of cheese and a big variety of their tapas menu! I highly recommend their pork belly!

I came here on a stag do and was not disappointed! Every course was heavenly, the wine surprisingly good and the private room we had very classy. Service was attentive and the dimly lit rooms gave the restaurant a very cosy atmosphere. Particularly noteworthy was the option we had to provide our own soundtrack, allowing us to chow down on fine tapas to the music of Queen, Delphic and Basement Jaxx, just as the Spanish do on a daily basis I’m sure! The only negative was that it was fairly pricey. Not offensively so, or sufficient in any way to stop me from coming back, more something to be aware of. I haven’t been to Barrafina so can’t comment on how the two compare. Indeed, as Barrafina doesn’t take bookings, it wasn’t an option on this occasion. In all, Dehesa is definitely worth a try.
