Missing the«Da» Vinci is a great evening meal or drinking option. I for one didn’t find the place overly pretentious nor did I find the staff to be anything but polite and very attentive. The restaurant upstairs serves up quite a fair set of treats as you browse the menu. They run a two course special menu from Monday-Thursday at less than a tenner or under £13 based on two sharing with a bottle of house. At the weekend this is bumped up but still comes in under £15, no bad. The breaded mushrooms wiht garlic sauce are delicious for starters, and for the mains I’d recommend Loin of cod avec courgette chips served with your bog standard garlic & tartar sauce and salad, yummy! Look, rarely do I get influenced by the crowd in a place. Ultimately it isn’t about them. Seldom does a crowd, no matter how pretentious completely ruin the atmosphere of a place, a group of lard coated boozing hooligans might be an exception, but you won’t get them here. It is always about the food, the service, and to a certain extent the aesthetic ambiance of the place. As far as the latter criterion goes, it is not bad at all.

This is probably the worst bar or restaurant along Allerton Rd is one of the prime culprits for the bad reputation the this stretch of road has got. Generally speaking there is little wrong with the layout as it is a big spacious venue with plenty of seating upstairs. I have never been impressed with the food whenever I have eaten here although some of my family including me mum do swear by the place. However the biggest thing I have agianst the place are the regulars. Without wanting to get into too much trouble, Vinci is filled with blokes I would not be surprised work on the door of some of the city’s clubs and late bars and it has become known for having a bit of a reputation. Not very friendly.

Vinci’s is a newly refurbished«trendy» wine bar in Allerton. I like the décor, mood lighting and the dark wood floor. Everywhere in Liverpool claims it has celebrity clientele but I can actually believe I might bump into someone famous here — not that I would recognise them. The staff are really polite and make every effort to take care of you. Whilst you eat you can enjoy a performances from soul, Motown and jazz singers. If you are seated by the window you overlook quite a busy road. The menu is simple but there is nothing on it that I wouldn’t want to try. If you are early enough you might find a parking space outside.

Vinci is one of many wine bars down the pretentious Allerton Road, and pretentious it is. The tables are really cramped together which unfortunately doesn’t give you much privacy if you are after a quiet or romantic meal. It is much better for an evening drink than a meal, but even then I still found the staff quite rude. There are often a few celebrities hanging out here which could be the reason that the staff seem to look down their nose to you. The food is cheap but this won’t persuade me to dine there again.

Vinci looks unremarkable from the outside but is actually a very nice bar inside. Upstairs there is a reasonably-new refurbed restaurant with gourmet-style food, and downstairs holds the main bar, function area and staging area for live acts. There is live entertainment several times a week, but I’m sure the most popular is Alfie on a Sunday crooning Motown classics. In fact, Sunday is often the most popular night generally, and I can’t quite say whether it is due to a lack of places in the local area to go to or just because there is a good crowd in on a Sunday. Vinci certainly seems to be one of those places where the workers meet as well, and is a popular watering hole for staff from other local businesses. I always think you can tell a lot by a place by whether the staff hang around after the end of their shift, and Vinci seems to be the place everyone wants to linger around. Open from lunch onwards, and with a bar licence to keep the drinks flowing once the bellies are full, this is the central watering hole for those who live and work in Allerton Road.
