Omega is not the beginning and end of an elegant dining experience. Though the setting suggests a rather modern and cutting-edge atmosphere, there is nothing which really suggests this on the menu which is more akin to a greasy spoon. But if it’s comfort food you’re looking for then you’ll find just what you’re looking for here. I enjoyed coffee and an orange juice at a breakfast bar stool in the window and overall it was pleasant, the staff were exceptionally friendly and chirpy and I felt welcome. It seems Omega just hasn’t found it’s niche, or Wow factor that would make me desperate to go back.

It was very hard to categorise the food served at Omega as it seems to cater a little bit of everything. It is a bright, new and modern interior at Omega which is deceptive as it is actually just a café so I was a little let down at the menu thinking there would be a better choice. The problem with many of the cafes, bars and restaurants along Allerton Rd is that they are all relatively new so all have a very similar feel, look and style and need a lot longer to gain their own individuality and sense of personality. What they need to learn is that how they present themselves says a lot to their customers and having a nice place such as Omega is only going to be a let down when serving chip shop food like curry and rice — no hint at what type of curry — fish n chips or burgers.
