The West Derby is one of those pubs that feels wasted. Facing onto the village square means it could be a pleasant little drinkery until you remember where you are. Then everything seems depressingly inevitable. A loud, grotty locals pub, the West Derby is another one for the list of places that forget how nobody enjoys karaōke. Here you’ll get people belting out crooner classics, unaware how singing isn’t necessarily just like talking, but louder.

West Derby Hotel is a well-run and friendly pub that receives a lot of competiton from the Hare and Hounds, which is a mere stone’s throw away. Looking less aesthetically pleasing than its opponent, the West Derby is a traditional-looking pub that caters for all punter’s needs. With a standard stereotypical menu and a range of beverages on offer, you’d get pretty much everything you desired from a public house here. Although, the West Derby goes one step further by offering live entertainment in the form of karaeoke, and by showing the football on television. I didn’t think the atmosphere in here was as great as in the Hare and Hounds, but the West Derby is still a quality pub.
