the«punch“as its locally known, does not purport to be anything but a boozer. not a place for snobs, or real ale junkies. i always get a decent pint of guinness there at a price well below that of the more sophisticated pubs. During daytimes the drinkers are mainly mid aged to elderly who are driven away from the more upmarket pubs with their pocket busting prices.

The Punch and Judy pub is situated in a back street, close to Lime Street Station. It looks a bit dodgy from the outside and it is the same inside as well. It is dark, very dated, dirty and a bit grotty. The locals are friendly, although the one who came to speak to us had about 2 teeth and had obviously had a skin full, very friendly all the same if a bit scary. The bar staff are friendly and they serve you quickly. The drink is cheap and the bar is well stocked. The toilets are very small and dark, You have to hold the door shut, and there was no bog roll and they smelt a bit. This is a reasonable place to go for a quick pint but I wouldn’t recommend staying here long.

Its’ not the classiest of bars and is located next to the rough looking 24⁄7 Café which sort of sums up the downmarket feel of the place. This is the kind of bar for someone in desparate need of a drink and with not very many options, the problem is though that there are other options located close to Lime Street such as The Crown Hotel which is better value and decidedly friendlier than this establishment. Inside the place is dark and feels like a bit of a throwback to the dark ages and the main problem is that if youre an outsider you are made to feel exactly this way. The staff aren’t very friendly they seem irritated and moody and the prices are nothing special. Overall I can’t find too many reasons to recommend The Punch and Judy unless your already a regualr in which case you don’t need my knowledge.

Three front doors take you into this cheap, downmarket boozer that, owing to its proximity to the bustle of Lime Street, must have seen its fair share of burned out travellers over the years. A pub has stood on this spot since 1726 apparently. Just like most ot the drinking holes standing in this grim area of town, the Punch & Judy is a shabby affair with customers you wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of. If you fancy a drink in a place that doesn’t resemble Moe’s Tavern, try the Crown down the road.

This is a pub that seemingly runs the length of the street and has three front doors in a row!!! For you historians there has been a pub on this site since 1726 and I think that they have forgotten to adjust the prices– A pint for £1−20!!! All sorts pass through here, its opposite Lime Street Station so you get weary travellers. Post Office workers from Copperas Hill though I’m sure that it’s at the end of the shift!!! Lots of people call at the start of a night out for a few cheap ones and why not. You’ll also see an array of characters so do give it a visit as the beer is good and the staff are friendly. This pub has no pretentions, it’s a down to earth boozer and it even has a its own café and its own chippy. The 4 stars are because this pub does what it says on the tin– cheap beer and a good atmosphere.
