Over the last few years, Oomoo has cemented itself as one of the stand-out meeting places in the Smithdown Road area, and it’s not hard to see why it’s been such a success. Its formula is simple — good coffee at reasonable prices, pleasant décor, and a nice, ambient atmosphere. Do not be fooled by the trendy facial hair of its relatively young staff members — this is not another exclusive ‘hipster’ gaff. Its clientèle runs the gamut from students to workers to yummy mummies and knitting circles, and all are welcome. Oomoo performs well in every aspect of their business. Their hot drinks are of a high standard, and represent good value for money. Their food menu is well thought-out and diverse, with tasty paninis and an impressive array of sweet treats on offer. The atmosphere is genuinely laid-back and enjoyable, helped in no small part by the excellent music that they play — everything from 60s soul classics to Radiohead album cuts. All in all, it’s everything you could want from a bohemian coffee joint. If I had one minor criticism, it would be that some of the staff, while all perfectly competent, can often seem a little standoffish — an air of pretension around one or two of them. Then again, it might just be the aforementioned facial hair that subconsciously leads me to this conclusion. We’re all capable of prejudiced thought, after all. But obviously, I’m just nitpicking. It’s a great place to take a break from the hustle of Smithdown Road and just watch the world go by for a little while. Highly recommended.

I used to actually live above Oomoo when I was a student and just as I was leaving in 2004, its original incarnation(think it was Urban coffee — feel free to correct me Smithdown peeps) was just opening. Being the nerdlinger that I am, I thought I’d have a venture back through memory lane last week while in Liverpool for work and found that not a lot has changed in students-ville apart from a lot more Tesco’s, a little bit of gentrification and the odd verging on hipster hangout like Oomoo. With the weather being hotter than the surface of the sun(may need to be verified) I popped in for a nice ice cold Dr Pepper(£1.20) and a charge of my phone. They’ve got a lot of room for lounging, loads of charging up points for on the move working and a great selection of teas, coffees and ice drinks. I think this place would suit you if you were a student or even lived close by and wanted a change of scene from the office. Definitely a place to take a load off in Smithdown, pretty decent music in there too.

I heart Oomoo. A fab independent coffee shop on Smithdown Road, Oomo occupies a vast space with brightly coloured walls, eye-catching lampshades and comfy sofas. There’s free Wi-Fi, great music instead of acoustic and chill-out and the staff couldn’t be any friendlier without giving each customer a hug. In keeping with the good vibes, the coffee is great and they serve iced coffees and flavoured frappes as well as espressos, capuccinos and flat whites. The soups are delish and the cakes and cheesecakes are big enough to share. The fact they also host poetry readings and occasional gigs makes me love Oomoo even more.

I usually go to the American style coffee shops but having spotted this café near to a friends house we thought we’d give it a try. The café is large and has a variety of seating from tables and chairs, boots to the large comfy sofa’s. There is free wifi available which is great if you fancy a change of scenery with your laptop. The café is quiet most of the day apart from the rush round lunch as you would expect. But even then, you don’t get too disturbed as there’s a lot of room in the café. The coffee at Oomoo is gorgeous. They have a large range available and they serve it in large cups which are reasonably priced. The food is equally as good. They have a big selection of panini’s and sandwiches, not to mention the delicious cakes available. Oomoo is a lovely place, with a lot more atmosphere and ambiance than the branded franchise coffee shops that are popping up everywhere. It has originality instead of being a carbon copy and personally, I will be making more of an effort to go to these in dependant coffee shops from now on.

Oomoo is spot on for a nice relaxing lunch with friends or a coffee and a chill with a book or a laptop. Hey have free wifi available throughout and they have big comfy couches which are ideal if you don’t have the internet at home and you need to escape somewhere comfortable to do some work. However, they do get quite busy around lunchtime so if you want real peace and quiet maybe go later on in the afternoon. The café itself has a great ambience and has little booths with big American style lamps hanging above them which look really cool! They sell freshly ground Italian coffee as well as a range of teas and soft drinks. On the food front they serve freshly made Panini’s and sandwiches, cakes and other snacks. I tried the spicy beetroot soup last week as it was their soup of the day, it was amazing, and only £3.00 with bread and butter

What a cute little coffee shop. I love the bright colours. I thought the coffee and food was good. I agree slightly about the Panini comment though. I mean – I do like them from time to time, but they are kind of weird. A big, proper sandwich with homemade bread is always nicer. You may find there are a lot of students hanging out here on some evenings, but that might be your cup of tea as well. Over all, I’d rate this a good place to grab a bite to eat.

Oomoo is unique it is the kind of place which encourages creativity even hosting performance evenings which is something I have never before witnessed in a so called coffee shop. This is what I enjoy about Oomoo it is different from the usual fare of establishments along Smithdown road and it provides better coffee and food than most also. They do great cakes and this really makes all the difference in my eyes as often from a standard mainstream coffee shop you get served with rock hard days old cake which could break off your teeth in a bite. The Oomoo staff acrually seem to enjoy what they do and I like this as it makes me feel as though you will be given the best type of service by people who actually care about their job. There are too many places in Liverpool which just plod along without trying to improve or showing any passion and Oomoo is the exception to the rule. Check it out !

Somedays I am a coffee fan other days I am not. All depends on how I feel that day. So I am commenting on oomoo not from a coffee perspective but from a food perspective. Also, being a sweet rather than a savoury taster, I went straight for the cakes, and what a choice(very adventurous and not the usuals). I really like this place and couldn’t for a minute complain on the food! And the atmosphere? Same as the food, in that it is pretty good, I think oomoo has really swung it for me and I will never go to Starbucks or Costa again(apart from when I am not in Liverpool).

I’m not exactly a big coffee shop man(in either sense of the word) but I found Oomoo to be a pleasant side-step from the hit-and-miss tapestry of Smithdown Road. It lacks the alpine bulk of smugness that normally burdens other places like this and sells cakes in such large portions you feel guilt rising in your gullet. As well as being a good place to duck away from traffic, Oomoo hosts poetry readings and gatherings of groups such as the Secret Life of Smithdown Road. Now if they could just do something about that godawful name. Seriously, how can you organise a meeting here without sounding like a Teletubby?

To be honest I was a little disappointed when I first arrived at Oomoo. It had been one of those places I had past for several months now and just never got round to stopping in. It could have been the awful weather had not put me in the best frame of mind but I was hungry and was not impressed by the food selection. Oomoo have a lot of teas and coffees to choose from in such a small neighbourhood café but all they offered me were paninis. I don’t get paninis. Crunchy, flat butties? They always feel like a scam, like I am paying for half a sandwich warmed up under the chef’s arse. After ten minutes in the vibrantly coloured surroundings and a good cup of coffee I started to warm to the place. It was raining outside but with Finlay Quay, soul and hip hop playing on the soundtrack it was very summery in Oomoo. To compliment this my Greek panini of feta, olives and a sweet tomato base arrived, hot, full and not totally squashed — proper nice. By the time I left I was in a much better frame of mind to face typical British summertime — I even thought Chris the owner was a genuinely nice, friendly fella rather than just another smug panini pusher on the café scene.

Oomoo is one of my favourite coffee shops in Liverpool, it’s relatively new and right in the middle of the bustling Smithdown Road. The décor is bright, bold and beautiful. The atmosphere is really chilled out and welcome to everyone — children, students and workies alike — I’ve seen nearly every type of person chilling out in here. The sofas are really comfy and the place is always super clean. Always a bonus for me! The food is just… wow. On another level. They offer some of the best cakes and savouries around, the portions are huge and it’s so yummy! It might not be the best place for your waist, but your bank account will be pleased — everything is a bargain. The coffee is also fab, nice to see somewhere aside from Costa/Starbucks serving decent coffee for once.

This is one of my favourite coffee shops! the staff are all really friendly and nice, the sofas are comfy, the place is always scrupulously clean, and the prices are seriously value for money because the portions are HUGE, and everything ive tried on the menu is exceptionally high quality. Good atmosphere, good food, good times!

Changed name from The White Room to oomoo, the owners are working really hard at improving the space; great vibe, really helpful staff; I’ve not found better coffee in Liverpool, the cakes are amazing, and the savoury stuff is great! they’re starting to do acoustic nights and other things, so I’m looking forward to the new stuff; easily my favourite place in Liverpool now! Also provide free wifi for customers
