60 Hope Street

What a birthday meal.
Having been advised by various friends and family that this was the place to have a celebratory meal, we headed to 60 Hope Street with high hopes, all of which were matched. Visiting on a Sunday evening, the service and atmosphere was very light any cheery, with no sense of being rushed at any point.
We were sat by the window and presented with a bottle of champagne, ordered by my lovely parents, though the card ordered to go alongside didn’t appear! It was poured straight away and kept chilled throughout the meal, with our glasses being topped up whenever required. Taking in our surroundings, we felt very much at home — it feels grand, but not in your face. Clean lines are the name of the game, much like the London Carriage Works attached to the Hope Street Hotel. Special, but not overfacing.
We tucked into a 3 course Winter menu, with no sign of the dreaded meat and two veg Christmas meal that many restaurants end up relying on at this time of year. I started with scallops, perfectly cooked, followed by lamb. For dessert it was chocolate and cherry, presented with Happy Birthday in chocolate writing; I’m a sucker for the details. Upon leaving, all staff wished me a happy birthday and I left feeling very special and looked after.
Well done 60 Hope Street, and keep up the great work. I’m sure I’ll come again soon.

60 Hope Street ist feines gehobenes Restaurant in Liverpool an selbiger Adresse in der Nähe der Universität. Ich war zum Lunch und hatte einen Salmon Piece of Art und danach eine Sea Bream mit Fenchel und einer Art Fruchtsalat. Das war eine ganz erstaunliche Mischung und ich habe das Essen sehr genossen. Das Restaurant bietet tadellosen Service in einer gepflegten Umgebung und offeriert einige gute Weine. Da es ein Lunch-​Angebot war, kostete der Spaß ohne Getränk nur sagenhafte GBP 20,-.

It’s all about the puddings.
I know 60 Hope Street is set in a gorgeous Georgian building. I know it’s renowned for serving classic British dishes with a contemporary twist. And I know the food is sourced from local farms and producers.
But it’s still all about the puddings.
Think Hot Chocolate Fondant with Caramel Profiterol and Pecan Ice-​Cream, Vanilla and Hibiscus Cheesecake with Claremont Rhubarb and best of all, Deep Fried Jam Sandwich with Carnation Milk Ice-​Cream.

‘Come to 60 Hope Street and try the Liverpool Tart’, my friend said. ‘I’ll even pay’. Well, who am I to resist an offer like that? After all, I’m never one to turn down a tart, particularly if it’s free. So, I slapped on another layer of eyeliner, put on a nice dress and tottered towards Hope Street and the famous 60 Hope Street.
This is a restaurant which has been described to me in rapturous tones by many Scousers I’ve spoken to since I moved here a year ago, and I’d been planning to dine here for a while. It specialises in simple delicious food, with all the ingredients sourced from local suppliers. And if that wasn’t enough, it’s set in some truly stunning surroundings — a Grade 2 listed building slap bang in the middle of Hope Street in sight of both of Liverpool’s cathedrals.
The food itself didn’t disappoint — a starter of a small vegetable risotto was rich and bouncy with flavour, and my main of Old Spot Pork coupled with an apple samosa was certainly interesting (and delicious), even if the apple samosa did just seem like a very posh version of a McDonald’s Apple Pie. And the Liverpool Tart certainly didn’t disappoint. This sexed-​up version of a treacle tart was rich with the spices which were shipped into the legendary docks and which made Liverpool such a thriving hub of industry a few hundred years ago. It was even better when gulped down with a spoonful of carnation milk ice cream which was silky smooth and erred just on the right side of sickly.
Add coffee, petit fours and more than one glass of excellent calvados (seriously, why is it so hard to get a glass of calvados in a restaurant in the North West of England?) I left 60 Hope Street full, relaxed and remarkably content. It’s sad to see the negative reviews listed on this page, particularly as I had such a wonderful experience here. For me at least, all of the hype about 60 Hope Street is very much deserved and I look forward to dining here again in the future — and perhaps trying that deep fried Jam Sandwich I’ve been hearing so much about…

I never really know what to make of this place, based in the heart of the University quarter you would expect to find it full of students… but it’s not. The décor is nice, very light and airy with a lot of bare wood, nothing too in your face!
It is a very popular restaurant in Liverpool, which is an accomplishment in itself now that there is a huge variety of restaurants with the opening of Liverpool ONE. The Bistro and Bar downstairs is pretty good, there is a 3 course meal and a bottle of wine menu for £20 per person which is great if you don’t fancy splashing out.
The restaurant upstairs is always buzzing due to how busy it is — although as a customer you would never know the waiting staff were rushed off their feet as they are always very attentive. You can expect to pay around £30−40 for 2 courses and a drink. There is also a private dining room which can be hired out for free.

This fabulous fine dining venue is just one more symbol of hope in the rapidly regenerating road which has in recent years developed from assorted faded Georgian listed buildings to a really vibrant and high quality series of food businesses which serve both theatre and concert goers as well as those simply seeking the very best food that Liverpool has to offer.
The restaurant has an upper fine dining area and also a basement bistro. The bistro is my favourite as if you have the whole evening or at liberty to a leisurely lunch you can first go and repose on a Chesterfield in the lounge for as long as you can stand the luxury before moving through to your seat in the dining area this for me is perfect for those long and deep conversations you will Have with your beloved and or your immediate kith and kin. If you are business minded 60 Hope Street is equally suited to entertaining for potential clients — your new business partners cannot fail to be impressed cannot fail to be impressed in these surroundings which may well suited to the context, and dare I say, if the seal on the beginnings of good business relationship.

My first thoughts when I came across this place was… Surely they could have thought up a name for this restaurant, no??? I mean come on… how unoriginal can you get!!! «60 hope street??? Really??? Can you imagine if Alma de cuba was called «Seel street» or San Carlo’s in manchester, «40 King street»??? Wasn’t there a loved one, or something else the owner was fond of?
Anywho, once you get past the name I mean what is in a name I suppose, the place is A-​ok. With its Georgian entrance the restaurant, encompasses a warm and welcoming atmosphere, the décor is somewhat simplistic compared to other options in the area however the food rules the roast in my book in a restaurant, and here… just like the place itself, it is A-​ok. The A la carte menu is accompanied by a daily changing special menu, an idea which I quite like. The food is cooked using local produce which is always a good sign and thus the menu changes with the seasons. Being near the water naturally you expect seafood and hey presto the menu offers a variety of fish dishes. If you have room left in the tank for a dessert and aren’t too bothered about teh calories you can always go for teh signature dish ‘Deep Fried Jam Sandwich with Carnation Milk Ice Cream’. I did, and must say it was niceeeeeeeeeeee oh yayyy.

Again, as I’ve said time and time again, Hope Street is full of restaurants, good ones too. Here’s yet another! What actually looks like a townhouse… well, was at some point a townhouse, we must assume. This instantly gives the place a marvellously homely feel and the theme continues with welcoming and attentive but also very humble service, which I must say I had to give top marks to. You really couldn’t fault it.
Don’t be scared by the prices. Just consider London, and 60 Hope Street seems positively bargainful in comparison. The daily menu special offers three courses for just under £20, it just means you’re limited somewhat. They do some amazingly lovely retro food here, much as I find the phrase ‘retro food’ odd unless it’s in the context of someone spreading peanut butter into a stick of celery on That 70s Show (it’s nice, that is. Celery’s also nice spread with Philadelphia. Free tip for you there). Nope, what I mean is oysters, prawn cocktail, even baked Alaska which I couldn’t resist.
It’s food done very well, with a touch of flair and a dash of the nouveau cuisine about it. Reductions, sauces, jus, that kind of thing. Everything was fresh and delicious and there were no complaints from me about… well, anything really. They’ve definitely made the most of the space and kept the design simple and pleasant, and as an occasional treat I’d say this is worthy of a visit or two.

I visited 60 hope street a few years back with my boyfriend and another couple. It’s a nice place for a quiet meal, the décor and atmosphere were nice. The food however not so nice.
I am a vegetarian and I am sick of the only thing on the menu suitable for myself being a cheese and mushroom dish in restaurants like this! I hate both! I don’t know why restaurants think that’s all vegetarians eat. Maybe they have changed the menu since then but I have no intention of going back to find out.
My boyfriend’s food was alright, nothing special. Can’t really rememeber what my friends had.
The best thing was the little choc’s they give you with the bill and that’s what entitled them to 2 stars and not 1!

Deeply disappointing. Regularly described as one of Liverpool’s top two restaurants, the bistro experience downstairs we had was flawed in almost every respect. The menu promised succulent local fare, mostly from Cumbria, and lavishly described, but the reality failed to match it. We waited an inordinate amount of time for a pathetic pair of starters — half a dozen tired oysters on ice and some very poorly seared scallops and rubbery sweetbreads and then a huge amount of time again for two mains, one of which was forgettable and the other unacceptable. The supposed sirloin was an overdone old chuck steak or at a stretch, rump steak which would have resisted even a chainsaw. The only redeeming feature of this useless restaurant is the wine list, which has many thoughtful offerings at very reasonably prices. Avoid.

First visit to 60 Hope street for a while but this fabulous restaurant has lost none of its charm — even though it will be celebrating its 10^th birthday this year! Menu was great — lots of choice using locally sourced ingredients — made it difficult to choose as it all sounded too good! The food and service was excellent and it has a great atmosphere.

Simply put this is the best restaurant in Liverpool by a mile. It was the first of the more upmarket restaurants inthe City having opened apporx 8 years ago. It is consistently good and inventive in it’s menus which change seasonally. they do also have deals from time to time which are great value such as 3 courses for £19.50 in January etc. Décor is understated and it is always spotless. What stands out as well is the food is the service. It is always excellent although they can be a bit over eager pouring the wine. My only critcism would be the basement bistro which used to be fantastic but is now really just used as a bar for the restaurant. It used to be packed until the sofas arrived!

My family and I love coming here for special occasions because it always manages to feel special! The food is out of this worldfresh, locally sourced, tasty!
If you’re thinking about giving this place a try but are worried about cost, then go for their regular specials menus. Each season they do a set price menu — 3 courses plus a bottle of wine between 2 people for just under £19. That is really good value and the wine is lovely. The menu constantly changes, but you get a choice of around 3 dishes for each course.
If, like me, you are a bit fussy and don’t like the sound of some items on the menu, the best advice is Try it! You might like it! as even things you think you won’t like, you probably will here! Give it a go.

Has to be one of the best restaurants in the city! The maitre’d Carl is awesome and the food is fantastic — using seasonal, local produce. There are regular changes to the menu which is great. Dishes to look out for are the ‘award-​winning’ Cain’s beer batter fish and chips (best in the city according to the Echo — I think — and ME) and the signature dessert — deep fried jam sandwich with carnation milk ice cream, which is far far nicer than it sounds and far far too much for one person — especially if you have had starters and mains before hand!!!

This popular restaurant housed in a Grade II listed building offers wonderful and interesting cuisine, with a 60 Hope Street contemporary twist.
Alternatively 60 Bistro is an informal place for luchtime or watching the world go by over a decent glass of wine.
Al fresco arrived this year in time for Capital of Culture but who told the weather man!
Liverpool has benefited from a recent regeneration of its pedestrian areas, however the ‘Big Dig’ brought no sun to the artistic and creative quarter of the city. If the weather is clement do enjoy a light plate in the day-​time and enjoy the location or take some time out in the early evening to catch up with a friend over an intimate Vino as the sun sets over the historic surroundings.
The pavement outside 60 Hope Street has been transformed into a sidewalk terrace, with stunning views of the two cathedrals and stunning local buildings.
It is also graced with artwork, in the form of John King’s whimsical ‘Suitcase’ sculpture providing a talking point for diners and passers by alike.
Whatever the time day or night it’s an ideal spot to pass an hour or more if that’s your whim and the weather agrees and is close to a host of other interesting ‘Watering Holes’
The food and service are first class with prices at a reasonable level for its location.

One of the most respected dining experiences in liverpool, the food is classic British, served in contemporay art deco surroundings. Its cleintel is mainly the higher earners, but its prices are not out of the reach if you keep to a main course and a glass of wine. The service is immpecable and you are treated very well.

The contrast of the Georgian façade with the contemporarty interior makes for an interesting first imprestion. The service was good and the menu options were very eclectic.
