I decided to call in EAT while in Liverpool One, looking for a place that is safe to eat for gluten free, after a pleasant experience at the Trafford Centre branch. The store is a good size, with seating and a good range of sandwiches, although they are not gluten free, they do have a genius roll available to buy. The staff seemed very nice, and we talked about soup, as I didn’t know which one I wanted, having been unsure to get the Thai Butternut Squash, he offered me a free sample, which was a nice gesture as it was a good portion too. I decided to have it, as it tasted quite nice with the Thai spices, compared to standard butternut squash soup, and I was pleased they had a gluten free muffin available to go with it. The price was reasonable, and the portion was quite good(a little too much!) and the soup was quite nice, although it wasn’t the most filling of meals, I did enjoy it, however I could think of a large number of flavours that would have been better, and it isn’t really something I would order and order again. The muffin wasn’t very nice, it was just typical gluten free muffins, I do like how they have gone with a big gluten free brand and even offer this muffin, but it just isn’t worth it, and I do like a sort of bread going with my soup, so perhaps introducing a new muffin or even a sandwich, could be a good idea, for more people who are coeliac(like me) visiting this store. The standard of the food was satisfactory, the price matched this description too, however I still feel EAT deserves 3 stars as my server was very nice, and it is a nice place, underneath the sheltered part of Liverpool One, so it is a great place to shelter on the rainy day for a snack in Liverpool.

We were looking for a quick breakfast. One of us ordered the bacon butty, basically, three rashers of bacon in a muffin. The muffin is toasted and then eaten hot — or it would have been if it succumbed to the knife or teeth. We took it back to the counter and were offered another one which we declined and bought a smoothie instead. Then, in an effort to salvage the situation, the manager appeared and offered a refund of the bacon butty and the smoothie — £4.30 in all. This step in the right direction was somewhat undone when he said that the muffin bread wasn’t really suitable for toasting. Why have it on the menu then!!! The place has a pleasant appearance and their stated ethics are good but the delivery was lacking. We’ve filled in a comment card to the same effect. Oh and the free wi-fi didn’t work…
