Coopers is ideal if you fancy a pint or a glass of wine when you’re on the way in or out of Liverpool on a train from Lime Street Station. It’s also ideal if you want a fairly quiet pup to escape from the city centre and relax with a pint. They have a full bar including spirits, draught beers, bottled beers and wines. I’m not sure whether or not they serve food as I’ve never eaten there, but I think that they do. It’s a comfortable little pub with a very relaxed feel inside, the staff are always friendly and chatty behind the bar, and the beer is cold and tasty. The prices are slightly more expensive than most pubs in town, with a bottle of beer costing around £3.00. But it’s worth it for a spacious environment to relax, especially after being cramped up on a train all day!

Great location for this establishment means that they have the opportunity to hike up the prices, an opportunity which the management have grabbed with both hands. If Coopers’ wasnt in the middle of a busy train station I doubt it would attract many customers. There is next to no atmosphere, the staff sort of wander around in a daze and there really isnt much of a charm about the place at all. The food is poor and takes a long time to arrive and is another reason that Coopers is such a let down on the whole. The only reason I could fathom for spending a large amount of time in Coopers is if you are stuck inside Lime Street and by that I mean literally stuck because just accross the way is a much better establishment as a whole The Crowne Hotel which has better food, cheaper drinks and is a much more pleasurable way to fill your travel delays.

I recently spent 2 hours in cooper’s having managed to miss 2 trains to london. Whilst the pub is conveniently located in the centre of the station, making it perfect for a quick drink before a long journey, it lets itself down with a lack of character and high prices. The relentless comings and goings of passengers dropping in for a ‘quick one’ is quite tiresome, coopers is not a place to have to spend an extended period of time. The open balcony design of the pub offers a good view of the station, but also allows all of the background station noise in, making it quite difficult to sustain a conversation with a friend sat next to you. When this is coupled with the extraordinary prices, a pint in coopers is an altogether unpleasant experience. My advice if your ever stuck at lime street for more than half an hour, is to head out the main entrance and turn left. Right ahead should be a pub called the crown. Have a drink here for a much more relaxed experience thats lighter on the wallet!
