God bless Asha. This must have been what Indian restaurants looked like when they first opened in this country. Don’t get me wrong it is a cracking little place for a good authentic Indian meal but I can’t work out how much of this rating is a pity vote! Ever seen that early Simpson’s episode where we see two Asian restaurant owners sat in an empty establishment — ‘sometimes I think you want to fail!’ Well that is often the feeling I have coming here. It is not often full except on Saturday evening but having been around for years, the old chaps in the kitchen here have come to perfect their trade and it is merely the competition from other Indians and those damn Chinese buffets that have stolen some of their thunder.

Ah, Dearest Asha. If you fancy an Indian and want the restaurant to yourself apart from perhaps a drunken guy slumped on the table in the corner booth waiting for his curry, then this, friends, is the place for you. Although it’s often empty, there is something endearing about this place, but I’d only recommend it if you’re with a big group of people. I really don’t think making reservations is necessary. You can’t argue with the service and the friendly staff,(well you would be friendly, if you were welcoming your first customers of the day at 8pm!) are eager to wait on you. The food is great, good sized portions and with more poppadoms than you can shake a stick at, you certainly won’t go away feeling hungry. As it claims to be the oldest restaurant in Liverpool that is still open, I feel we have a duty to the city to keep it that way!
