History
Established in 1918.
The Hotel has been in the Irwin family for four generations.
We purchased it in around 1918 from the neighbouring landed gentry’s estate, the Howard family of Castle Rising. It was then an Ale House half its now size. We converted into an Inn c1930, offering full Ensuite bedrooms, a rare luxury then. The extensive grounds incorporated tennis courts, riding school and became home to West Norfolk rugby club, to mention but one such local club. Always a populat haunt of the ‘more sporting’ clientele in those days. Alas, the courts and riding school etc. are no longer. Now the Hotel is a Three Star Inn, offering comfortable accommodation and supurb evening meals, presented by Chef and daughter Victoria.
