Specialties
I’m Matthew and I’ve been helping my students succeed at school and university for over 20 years. My philosophy is: more than higher grades.
I teach all the modules for A level Maths and Further Maths, A level Statistics, and some A level Physics. (I also work with undergraduates on courses with mathematical content, such as Economics and Business Studies.)
My focus is on achieving high grades through understanding the material. (70% of my students achieved an A or an A* in the 2013 exams.) I tailor my approach depending on individual needs and interests and I believe in making the mathematics as simple and enjoyable as possible. I am enthusiastic, friendly and approachable. I really want my students to succeed and I’m very happy to be contacted for help outside of their lesson time.
History
Established in 2006.
I have been teaching for over 20 years, including at top-ranking schools such as Charterhouse in Surrey and Phillips Exeter Academy in the USA where I worked with Dan Brown, author of The Da Vinci Code (who taught English there) and where I claim I taught Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook (he was a student there at that time, but I don’t actually remember him!)
I started working full-time as a private tutor in 2006. Since then I have taught over 6,000 hours to over 200 students, helping them achieve the grades they needed to get into their first choice university.
Meet the Business Owner
Matthew H.
Business Owner
I was a Kitchener Scholar at the University of Cambridge, where I was awarded an Entrance Prize by Trinity College and the Philpott Prize for a first class examination performance in Tort Law.
After graduating from Cambridge I founded and edited MXpress, a newspaper for young people that sold over 30,000 copies. My ambition had always been to teach, however, and I began my career by taking a degree with the Open University, where I studied Mathematics and Physics. I won the Leslie Walshaw Award for scoring 100% in the examination in Mathematical Models and Methods. (In fact I achieved first class passes in every assignment and examination I took throughout the degree.) I subsequently taught mathematics at the Open University as an Associate Lecturer.
