Mearns Library

I love visiting our local library. While it’s quite small, it has a good selection of books and chilled out atmosphere. I worried about the being replaced with self-​scan machines but there is always people on hand when the computer is having a «Computer Says No» kind of day.
I always reserve my books using their online catalogue and then pop in a few days later to collect them. I wish there was a way I could opt out of receiving a «Your Book is Ready to Collect» letter in the post but it’s not really a big deal.
My food-​lovers tip is to borrow any potential cookbooks from the library first — it’s good to give a few recipes a whirl before investing in the cookbook. I have a pretty full cookbook shelf already (let’s just say I definitely have more than 20) so I am really cautious about buying more now, unless they’re really worth it!
With all the talk of Government related cuts/​austere times, I’d be devastated to lose our library so I use it as much as possible. Also saves me some pennies too.

Located adjacent to the avenue shopping centre, this is a well stocked library in Newton Mearns and an excellent choice if you are looking for something interesting to read. They have a separate children’s section as well, which is useful both to keep kids entertained and for school projects. Membership is free for local residents and also gives you access to other East Renfrewshire libraries, including the ones at Clarkston, Giffnock and Barrhead.
