More slug than lettuce but the clientelle do seem to like lettuce!

Place rating: 3 Farnham, United Kingdom
It’s a chain, it’s a clever name, and will score you no points in a match of pub cricket, but I’m a fan of Slug and Lettuce. It can be counted on for typical Brit bar drinks, and decent fare. The Farnham establishment has a nice back garden which is typically peopled with smokers pretending to live much closer to London than they actually live. If you get there early enough, you can probably find a place far enough away to enjoy your food without smoke. There is a child’s menu, high chairs and good facilities for children, and the breezeway between the Sainsbury’s car park and East street makes a good place to supervise kids who are too antsy to sit still while waiting. It’s nothing special, but it has going for it what all chains have going for them: slightly-better-than-mediocre consistency. If you’re a member of the real-ale, real-pub branch of MI-5, the Slug isn’t for you. Don’t expect the unique flavor of a Sunday roast cooked over flames tended from the wood of the tree that grew over the proprietor’s great-grandfather’s grave. On the other if you buy your socks ten at a time, and really like the fashions at Sainsbury’s, slither over to the bar, and order away.
