Until this Christmas I hadn’t been into Matalan in years, so I really wasn’t sure what to expect when I visited a couple of weeks ago. I needed new clothes, so I figured I’d take a look. It wasn’t a perfect shopping experience, but it’s fair to say I came away content. The store is nicely organised. It wasn’t the first I’d visited that day, but it was certainly the first with a clear division between men’s, women’s and children’s clothing. I knew exactly which part of the store I needed to be in and exactly how much there was to look at. The variety was more than acceptable — some of the styles were a little young for me(I’m getting to that age), but I found more than enough to keep me happy. Unfortunately, the store didn’t have the range of sizes I might have liked. Three jumpers, two T-Shirts and six pairs of trousers available only in small sizes. It might have been helpful if one of the staff members could have checked neighbouring stores to see if any had the clothes I wanted in my size, but when I approached a member of staff I was told that if it wasn’t out they didn’t have it. She wasn’t rude — in fact she was very polite — just about as useful as a windscreen wiper on a goat’s backside. What I did find was great and in hindsight there are a couple of bits I regret not buying, most notably a fleece. I bought it in one colour, but given how warm and comfortable it is I wish I’d bought the blue and grey versions too. Sadly, my journey to this store is in excess of two hours, so it’ll be a while before I can get back, but there’s not one thing I bought that day that I regret buying. The prices were a little higher than I remember, but far from unreasonable. Jumpers from £8 to £20, trousers from £6 to £30 and T-Shirts for just £4. I would have liked to pick up a new jacket, but the range was limited. The only jacket I could find in my size was, in my wife’s words, a «pensioner coat». I put it back. I would have thought that winter would have been the perfect time for selling coats and jackets, but with just four styles, three available only in the smallest size, I had to go elsewhere. They could have done with a couple more staff on the checkouts, but the wait wasn’t too long. I’ve been to rival Primark stores where I’ve spent more time queuing than shopping, so a fifteen minute wait to be served wasn’t too horrendous and the girl who served me was polite and helpful. Overall it was a satisfactory shopping experience and this store has earned itself a return customer.

I have not been here for a wee while but my friend Lorraine had a lovely sarong on from here last week so though I would give it another go. Did not buy anything for me got Animal from the muppet boxers for the boy child and Shhh don’t tell her a dress for Sharon M for Autumn time. They had a lot of things half price but nothing to my taste on this visit, really lovely girl on the checkout, wish I could remember peoples name must make note to myself write them down.

Matalan gets tarred with the cheap and nasty brush and it certainly fits in in Clydebank Shopping Centre home of Farmfoods, Dunnes and the biggest Poundstretcher I have ever seen. However, it is not all bad. This store actually has a pretty decent range of homewear and luggage. I have always found the staff to be very helpful too. Definitely worth a look.

Matalan is a cheap department store which sells men and women’s fashion as well as home accessories. The shop has attempted to get some stylish credability recently with the introduction of a home accessory line designed by reality tv funsters Colin and Justin. This store is huge and there are some real bargains if you look hard enough. I recently picked up a massive suitcase for only £22.

matalan is a huge shop at the Clyde retail park next to MFI. It sells clothes for men, women and kids. It also sells some lovely homewares and they always have special offers on. I especially like this shop at Christmas, as they sell lovely Christmas gifts and decorations. One of the advantages of shopping her is that as it is not in the actual shopping centre, it’s easier to park!
