This is a Wetherspoons like any other so don’t expect anything more or less. It has traditional pub dark wooden seating and blue patterned carpets and sticky drinks menus. It is definitely not the sort of place I would go on a night out, even a crap night out, because there are not many toilets in the ladies and it is really cramped inside. There are about four tables for every square centimeter. However, when I go to chester races this is my first stop, because they have plenty of bar staff, plenty of choice, do a cheap breakfast if that’s your thing. And in my experience the beer is always cold.

Not a best steak Ive had but pretty decent. Good value for money. Pub generally crowded and staff seem to delay to clean the tables.

«Ooh ‘The Square Bottle’. What a delightfully quirky and olde worlde name. I bet the barman is soothsayer or a jester or something. This place is going to tickle me pink.» That rather campy thought process is what juddered through my brain as my legs carried me across the road towards what I presumed to be a fantastical tavern, or at least a historical one. I was wrong. The Square Bottle is a gloomy open set of rooms clogged with chairs and tables placed irritatingly close together. It’s a good job that it was mostly devoid of customers as there didn’t seem to be enough room to walk freely otherwise. It wasn’t until I spied the word ‘Wetherspoons’ on a menu that everything became clear and the crappiness of the Square Bottle seemed not just explainable but inevitable.

hough whilst receiving my drink I noticed that my glass was dirty — and I asked my wee waiter to change it, which he done so happily. Wetherspoon’s Pubs — I was extremely pleased with the service and welcome I received in Wetherspoons, Glasgow near a train station??? Our waiter was very friendly and more than helpful — on a Monday morning. Food was excellent which consisted of a fry that morning and we came back for lunch, which also was lovely, it was chicken with smoky bbq sauce — it was delicious. I was qualified chef and used to work in the hospitality industry and I would say that they have great customer services skills, relaxed, friendly atmosphere and good staff — who would greet you with a smile. Excellent

Location is idea to start a night out in Chester food and drinks are good value, they do a selection of cocktails by the pitcher! Menu is normal pub food usually served quickly although when it is busy you can be waiting for a while for serviceas with any place. Toliets are a bit of a hike up stairs. In summary, great place for good cheap food and drinks to start the night off!

This pub was closed for refurbishment a few months ago went in again the other day by the looks of it they have changed the tables around added a few settees pushed the tables closer together so they cram more in so much so people have to get up of there chairs so you get get into your table, carpets looked like they are different but all in all no difference. Tables still as sticky as ever, the service is terrible no fault of the staff they just need aload more staff to deal with all the customers and they have only got the customers because of the low prices which attracts people they are obviously saving money on staff i would rather pay a bit more and be served a bit quicker. Will be looking for a different pub next time i go to Chester.

I don’t often give bad reviews, but this place gets one. Its dirty, stuffy and full of foul mouthed middle aged men. And this is in the day. By night it only gets worse. The taste of the pints leaves nothing to the imagination when thinking about when they last cleaned the pumps and the staff just don’t care about anything but their/your money. So i would say to try and find somewhere a little more pleasant if you dont enjoy the people types i have mentioned here. Its hard to believe a place this big and dirty attracts so many. Its must be the cheap drink prices. But, to be honest i would expect cheap drink prices if they don’t employ cleaners.

This is a big Wetherspoons but still it is quite hard to get a seat when it is busy on a lunch time. The bar service is quite slow, as they often seem understaffed, but generally fine as you can get cheap meals for a decent price as this is on the main shopping street. Quite a popular venue at night and on race days will all sorts of people, mainly due to the cheap drinks as one would expect. Only one floor, toilets are upstairs. People occasionally fight for a table not pretty! Overall quite a good place for cheap food

What you seen is what you get at ANYJD’s. Not a pub atmosphere but the drinks are cheap and its a high street location. best to call in the day for they have 2 eat for £10 and similar offers on. also a good watering hole before chester games as they do open early.

I guess you either love or hate Wetherspoons pubs. Normally I love them. but this one I’m not so keen on. It follows the typical blue print for these places — cheap drinks and reasonable quality cheap food. But I just can’t but feel that it lacks any kind of soul — and doesn’t always attract the best clientelle. In-fact I’ve regularly seen fights taking place outside here, particularly on race days when the whole city just goes crazy. On the plus side — it is huge compared to most places in Chester, which means getting a table isn’t usually a problem — though it will most likely be covered in ketchup packets and drink spills. If you want cheap no-frills drinks then you can’t really complain too much — but I would rather pay a little more for my alcohol and relax in a nicer environment.

This Wetherspoons is huge and reminds me of a German drinking hall more than anything else. It’s quite dimly lit and the only really decent place to sit is in one of the booths which are nearly impossible to get during busy times. The food will fill you up but you know that it’s not going to be amazing. If you have the sunday roast for example its a grade or two lower than even standard pub grub. The veg is always stale and less appetising than the packaging it probably came in. All the usual drinks deals are in operation. Probably your best bet is to choose the beer and a burger option which is pretty cheap and non offensive. You dont have to have beer, you can choose from cider, wine, tea, coffee and soft drinks. JD Wetherspoons is a pretty soulless place, but that is often the case with these chain pubs. I imagine it used to have some character a few decades ago, but now its just the vague idea of a pub as described to someone who has never set foot in one. Family friendly though.

Good value for money. The staff are friendly and they take well to kids. The food is served quickly. Can sometimes get busy and you struggle to get served but it depends on what time of the day you go. Menus are good and throughly enjoyed our meal.

Very good value for money, the interior is always very clean and has an airy feel to it. I would be more inclined to recommend it as somewhere to go for lunch whilst shopping than to purposefully plan to go there for an evening meal. The menu is large and everyone should find something they would like. Has offers like 2 meals for the price of one and free drink with burger etc like all wetherspoons do. In comparison to other wetherspoons this one always appears to have more room than others I have been too,

Very popoular place for those after a meal or a few drinks. A huge open space with toilets situated upstairs.(These are always fresh and clean). Ideally situated for those wanting to carry on drinking on a night out as numerous pubs and clubs nearby. Also for those shoppers wanting to put their feet up for a deserved break. As with a lot of Wetherspoons pubs the only problem can be the queue at the bar at peak times.
