I really like these small independant art venues that pop up occasionally around Bristol, it is great to see that local artists are able to have platforms to show their work and build up a name for themselves. I don’t profess to be an expert as far as art comes, but I know what I like and I know what I don’t like, and I like quite alot of what the View Art Gallery has to display. They have new exhibitions every six weeks or so which means that there is alway some new work coming in to see and appreciate, and to realise you like and would like to buy, and then realise it is far to pricey and you would need a massive loan to buy!

Some pretty impressive sculptures on display, from a weird half-donkey half man thing(think the donkey from shrek mixed with michelangelo’s david). The gallery itself has a sculpture theme at the moment. I do find with View unlike some of the other Galleries is that despite it clearley listing the opening times and having an open door, you don’t feel quite welcome whenever you go in to have a look around. Maybe that’s because I look a bit dodgy and they think I might steal something or maybe it’s because they are a bit pretective over the Gallery, I just don’t know. With two floors there is plenty to see, and with a relativley fast turnaround of some exhibits if you pop in once every 2 months you will see soe new and exciting work.

Wow I literally skidded to a halt on my bicycle going past this gallery, and wheeled back to the hoops outside the tool hire place so I could go in. Although landing fully in the white austere gallery bracket, the content choice is truly original. A mix of highly contemporary prints, sculpture and installations, there are two floors with the real stunners upstairs — including some unframed prints making art a bit more affordable(starting from about £100). The staff are happy to answer any questions and know about the artists on show, exhibitions change every six weeks-ish.
