I went saturday night, the music was great and the other customers really made an effort to look great!
Unfortunately the toilets and other areas were not that clean or well presented despite the low lighting.
Drinks service was very slow and the bar staff didn’t seem to have an idea about the ‘saturday’ cocktail on offer or the menu’s contents!
I settled on white wine and when I asked for Chardonnay I got Pinot Grigio.
I’m sure as it’s a new business it will get better but I was told it has the best service in Bristol after a friend went. A nice looking place though

Java is one of those places I’d avoid and would never bother going into, but on this one occasion, a friend had invited me there for a Bristol University Chinese Asian Society night, and coaxed me further by saying that he would get us in for free. So I thought, well, free, what’s the harm in going somewhere for free?
Well. They try to promote themselves as a high class VIP type lounge/bar, and you can certainly see this when you’re inside. They do try. Perhaps to some, they pull it off, but to me, their efforts simply looked tacky. There is another room further in, with a disco type feel, a lighted up dancefloor and crystally shiny lights in the ceiling. Very Justin Timberlake. Great for if you if this is your thing, but it certainly wasn’t mine.
I left quite soon after that, I couldn’t stand the people in there that were so posey and dressed like they had a stash of dollar bills to throw around, but most probably were eating through their credit cards.

Considering Java uses some of the furnishes and interior from the Mauretania, a magnificent old ocean liner and once the largest and fastest ship in the world it is far from magnificent, riveting, or at all atmospheric. I am talking about the daytime coffee shop, I have only been to Java in the evening once and they played RnB, so I never went back. But I have had coffee here a few times, including this afternoon.
If you look closely you can see the stunning parts of the old ship (have a look at the walls outside the front) but you have to look through a sea of tacky, unimaginative furniture, fixtures and fittings. The place just feels a little soulless and things don’t quite fit together.
The cappuccinos are nice, and there are lovely large booths and outside seating for you to watch Park Street go by in. The whole place is very peaceful and relaxed and it is worth a look for the parts of the ship you can actually see.

Sleek and modern, Java is perhaps in appearance the classiest of Park Street’s many nightlife establishments. Featuring a well-stocked bar and dancefloor with a roof punctured with fairy lights, lots of chrome and clean lines, it would seem to be a modernist’s dream.
The reality is it’s as sleazy as anywhere on this strip, filled with Friday night shirts on the pull and girls attempting to outclothes one another. The venue is a confused mixture of restaurant and café by day, bar and club by night, never seeming to quite commit enough to be a truly excellent example of one or the other.
It’s certainly not the worst place to fritter your wages away in Bristol, but when there are chilled out pubs or lively dancefloors why would you settle for the middle ground?

Java is a pretty classy night club and the venue is trendy and cool, however I’m not a massive fan just because I find the student nights here pretty pretentious! Being from UWE, I tend to find that Java is more popular with the main Bristol University students instead — so I’m pretty biased. However saying this, on non-student nights I can imagine it’s a pretty cool place to go out — especially if you want somewhere modern to go for special occasion evenings such as birthdays! They do a variety of cocktails and have a pretty good range of drinks behind the bar, so if you’re happy to spend a bit of money then give it a try!
The place itself is very well designed to fit in with a modern and ‘funky’ vibe — the dance floor is surrounded by projected lighting resembling loads of tiny stars all over the walls creating a magical feel! And unlike some clubs where you struggle to find somewhere to sit, Java does have a good amount of seating throughout the club and around the dance floor — great if you have painful heels towards the end of the night!

What is Java trying to be, a club? A restaurant? It certainly doesn’t work as the former in my books. The layout is not conducive to fun, you have to spend too much time waiting for other people to get through the doorways before you can find your way to the bar, or the dance floor, or the other bar. Yet I keep hearing people outside of Bristol saying how much they enjoy it. And I can see that there are aspects that can create a favourable impression of the place, the 80’s light up dance floor, and the drawing-room-style VIP area. But these are so heavily outweighed by the bad logistics of the place. Each to their own– I am not a fan.

I really like Java’s, I completely understand why it has had bad reviews. Anywhere along Park Street tends to be a nightmare come nighttime as the cattle market crowd descend. I can see why the ‘trendies’ would flock to Java’s. Its a really nice bar /coffee shop. It is decorated beautifully and services tasty beverages.
I also went to a Burlesque class in the club area. It was great fun and we had the groovy light up floor to ourselves as we attempted to strut our stuff. Having a burlesque workshop in a nightclub made us feel a bit more with it and it was great to be able to grab some beers to help us get over our inhibitions.
I definitely recommend Java’s for lunch or an afternoon drink. It was down to earth and friendly by night. I know the type of crowd it attracts at night so avoid it then. Its a lovely place, go there when its quiet so you can enjoy the ambience without being put-off by the crowds of wannabe’s.

Java was a place I visited quite often in my Freshers year of university, mainly because a friend of mine promoted it so we got in cheap. Otherwise I would have avoided it!
From the outside it looks classy and sophisticate, which indicates a good night out. However, once inside the music is dull, the staff and customers are lifeless leaving you with a sour feeling of disappointment. My nights here never really took off and the drink prices are expensive (for a student) therefore I have never returned.
On the plus side, it is definitely worth a visit during the day for the reasons listed in the reviews before me.

During the day, Java is a lovely place to have a relaxing cup of coffee and a Danish with friends. By night, it turns into an annoyingly poser’s paradise.
Having only been to the nightclub once, I find it difficult to judge. Needless to say there’s a reason I’ve only been once. The music was shockingly bland, as were the ‘celebrities’ who looked bored out of their pampered brain. Expensive, loud and boring — I’d give it a ¹⁄₅.
The café however IS worth a visit. It isn’t the cheapest but it’s the best place to get your caffeine fix at the bottom of Park Street. It’s pretty swanky for a café, which makes it that little bit more special (but the prices do reflect this).

This is basically a posers nightclub where (so I’m told) D list celebs hangout. And when I say D list celebs, I’m talking about Bristol City footballers and their WAGS. For some unfathomable reasons I’ve actually been in here about 4 or 5 times and the question «why» enters my brain not too long after I’ve walked through the front doors.
Before you even enter you can tell what kind of place this is going to be by the four or five knuckle headed gorillas standing by front door. I’m talking about the bouncers of course. As a profession and as a type of human being, they’re up there with politicians, lawyers and traffic wardens on my hatred scale and the ones at Java are particularly nasty pieces of work.
The last time I was in there it seemed to be filled with prostitutes or call girls loitering around the bar area looking for business. I’m basing this on the fact that they were all Eastern European and weren’t with each other as a group of friends. They all stood apart separately and stalked the room looking for men as individuals. A friend of mine made the mistake of talking to one of them and she wouldn’t leave him alone all night. This is probably quite a slanderous accusation, but I don’t care.

Java is down on the bottom of Park Street. By day it’s a nice café, by night it turns into club which attracts the rich and beautiful of Bristol (or so they’d like to think).
The music is mostly r’n’b and soul, with a mix of funky house and hip hop, so the atmosphere always gets pretty lively in an evening. I think it’s better in the daytime though, as the café has a really nice, chillled out atmosphere, and they have a good range of pastries and baked goods, which really sets you up on a lazy morning in town.
If you do make try it out at night, make sure you dress smartly.

I spent many an afternoon in here pre internet in my flat, and the coffee and croissants always went down very well. The front space is a nice lounge area, with a good view of the street, which I always enjoy. There is also space out the back with a bar.
I’ve never ventured into the main room, but they claim to hold great events and private functions in here.
Visit in the day for a good quality lunch or snack.

A club/bar at the bottom of Park street with plenty of dancefloor to go around. The main room has a tiled dancefloor which lights up in various colours in unison with the lights. Often difficult to get into on a Friday nights as they can be quite selective on who gets to go in. Once you’re inside though, you’ll like the atmosphere and space.
