I’ve been to this places a few times! Its on the 2nd side street from the botanist on the triangle, black door you just ring the bell and wait for someone to open the window and decide if they want to let you in. There aren’t masses of tables but i kind of like that, feels more intimate. The lighting is subdued with a speak easy theme, velour accessories and fringed lamps. The offer table service and the first time i went was with a friend, we had literally one of every drink on the menu and we were pretty ratted by the end, luckily he’s pretty wealthy…£10 a drink EACH. it was a fun way to start the night with great surroundings and we had a fab waiter that chose each drink for us as we couldnt decide, he had a great sense of humor which scores massive points from me. The 2nd time i went was with some other friends after work, we all had coats and bags as you do after work for a bevvie and the lady who answered said and i quote ‘you know this isnt a Lloyds right? The drinks are £10 each minimum’ Which made things p.r.e.t.t.y awkward. Needless we stayed for one then pushed off somewhere else as we felt so uncomfortable. Going from both these experiences i’d be inclined to go again, it’s the better of the two speak easy bars in bristol and less visited/commercialized. Though i’ll make sure i’m more sharply dressed next time clearly!!!

Hyde & Co is everything I love in a back-street cocktail bar. The entrance is off the main street, you have to ring the bell to get in and it’s a first-come first-served arrangement here. There’s only limited seating as they don’t take reservations and there’s no-standing at the bar, so be prepared for the disappointment if they say they are full — however they will take your number and call you when a table becomes available. Once inside the dimly lit décor is c1920’s chic with a hint of incense to give it some extra atmosphere. There’s scattered tables and booths giving the place an intimiate feel. The menu is not extensive but it is unique and you won’t find a stereotypical Manhattan or a Mojito on it. All the drinks they list give you the impression that they want you to try something new and break from the norm — however they’d be happy to make you anything you ask for. Complimentary nibbles and full table service are included, as you’d expect. The staff are courteous and friendly and if you don’t know what you want to drink they’re great at suggesting something you would like. The only problem with this bar is how laid back and relaxed it is. I found that our glasses were empty for a little too long between drinks meaning we didn’t have time to have as many as we wanted to in the time we had available. This bar is perfect for a group of friends to have a relaxed drink, or an ideal place for a couple on a date to have an after-dinner drink. — one of my favourite bars in Bristol.

Great spot for a chilled evening of interesting, speakeasy-inspired cocktails. Love how it’s hidden away from the typical weekend madness going on outside.

Easy to miss, which is not a bad thing. Options are very limited in Clifton which is why this place looks like a good bet. If you are in Clifton, and end up here, check your bill carefully, as we have been overcharged on more than one occasion, and don’t order wine as it’s terrible.

first up, the entrance is on Upper Byron Place unlike what their official web site says and just look for a sign of a bowler hat. It’s a speakeasy style bar with a doorbell you must press to get in. With that said, we popped in here on a Sunday night quiet but fine by us. We had a couple of delicious cocktails each including The Last Supper and the Victoria. Very friendly staff and great music to boot.

Loved it to bits. The cocktails were very strong, not to my liking, but there are so many other things to drink. The décor, the music and the staff all 10 out of 10. Had a great time and will be back again very soon.

I love the confused look on my friends’ faces when I take them to Hyde & Co. They have probably never heard of it, despite having walked only yards away from its front door many times. And when we get near, it’s up a few stairs then down some more, ring the doorbell, be assessed by the dapper barman for suitability, and then be allowed into this terrific bar. That’s when their faces turn from confusion to delight, as Hyde & Co feels like a secret bar that only you know about. You have to go there to believe it, and even then you barely believe that you are sitting in a bar so special and so different, but so near to the more traditional modern day nocturnal happenings of Bristol. Hyde & Co easily deserves five stars, but unfortunately when a group of friends and I came to leave the bar after celebrating my birthday last night, we were handed a bill with four expensive cocktails on that we had not ordered. Despite protestation, the barman would just not budge, and a stand-off ensued(quite apt in what has been described as a speakeasy). After what seemed like an interminable time, the £27 was finally dropped, but it left a bitter taste after what had previously been a typically wonderfully evening.

This is a recent underground, prohibition style cocktail bar which has not failed to impress those who have found it. The owners have created a truly unique style and feel to infuse a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere into the building. The main focus of the bar is classic cocktails from around the world, with an excellent selection of spirits to back up the excellent and highly experienced team they have behind the bar. You may not get in as they have a closed door monitored by the staff and entry is not always guaranteed. but if you are smart, polite, sober and in smallish groups your chances will be greatly improved. I have heard rumours that they have recently acquired new staff and are planning to open 7 days a week.(This is only what I’ve heard so don’t take my word for it) So if you fancy a quality drink, with quality service, away from the usual rabble the Clifton Triangle throws up. Go and find Hyde & Co.(I’ve intentionally left directions off this as I don’t want too many people finding this little gem!)

This bar remained me of a victorians gentlemans club, great glass wear and detail although I did not like the salmon toilet and napkins to wipe my hands on. It is clear, if you have been that this is based on Haus Bar, a fabulous cocktail bar that offers superb service, the most amazing cocktails in a setting that is unique. Unfortuantely the bar staff at Hyde and Co are not very attentive, and the cocktail bar man could not even make a cosmopolitan without looking it up on his menu. When it arrived it looked like a glass of Tango. The woman behind the bar lacks personabale skills and obvioulsy likes the theatrical element of making a drink! A lot of effort for what was really a rum on the rocks! She clearly did not agree when I said I could not drink my Cosmo. tThe bar has no expresso machine machine and teh menu does not even list the basics such as classic Martini. We left after a bunch of drunks in the corner wacked in to our table, throwing my belini all over me. The staff did not even bother to ask we were ok, or offer to replace my drink. Yes, this bar is different but it has a long way to go to be part of the best places in the UK to go for a lovely night out drinking cocktails. I shall continue to visit Haus Bar and Claridges.

Set against the backdrop of Hyde & Co’s faultless 1920’s décor people are provided with the perfect environment and sublime cocktails of Bristol’s new speakeasy. Hyde & Co is a beautiful bar that serves expertly made drinks and provides a truly wonderful and unique experience for anyone looking for more from their venues. The attention to detail is exquisite, from the authentic 1920s New York cocktails to the fixtures and fittings. The staff are lovely and welcoming, which is a real treat on a Friday night. We actually met new and interesting people as well as having some fantastic conversations with the large group we arrived with.

My mint, blueberry julep was served over crushed ice in an antique tin bucket, especially intended for juleps. It was handed to me by a dashing bartender clad in 1920’s vintage chic. Victorian taxidermy and tastefully selected antiques lined the walls of the tiny prohibition era saloon. As if the gorgeous period furniture wasn’t enough, the ceiling screams for attention with an artistic display of dark wood slats in changing directions in the main room, swathes of dark, romantic fabric in the next, with a dimly lit glass chandelier poking out here and there. I loved how exclusive it felt in there. There is no way you would find this place unless you were looking for it. The subtle location is great in this neighborhood where loaded 18 year olds clog up the streets most nights. The prices are slightly, well, a little prohibitive to start flagrantly buying rounds for friends and strangers. But that should keep out the riff raff. All the gentlemen tending the bar were obviously brimming with pride when they presented you with each cocktail. There were little masterpieces, each and every one. I swear this Friday I’ll move around the menu a little more.
