Second City Suite

I had my first visit here on Saturday for the «Birmingham beer and cider festival». First impressions of the place were good, as it’s got a tidy looking exterior and seems to be in pretty good condition (despite being an uninspiring redbrick 70’s building). Pretty well situated just out of the Centre of Birmingham as it’s only about 10 minute walk from Hurst Street/​Suffolk Street Queensway junction (about 15 minutes from the Bullring).
I imagine it’s the kind of place you would only venture to for an event, rather than popping in for a casual pint. In terms of it being an event space, it’s actually rather massive inside. It has two floors with ample dance floor space on each and enough toilets to cope with the maximum capacity. If you were hosting a fairly large event, I would struggle to think of somewhere as well situated and this size in this convenient a location!
The venue were selling a small selection of curries and Indian snacks when I attended on Saturday. I was initially dubious, but for £3 the lamb curry was jam packed full of delicious tender lamb and tasted as though it was made from scratch (rather than a jar).
The venue had supplied several chairs and tables which were comfortable for large groups. The place was really pretty spotless too (especially considering it was the last day of a 4 day beer festival). In summary, if you’re looking for a fairly large blank canvas of a venue for an event, give this place a look!

Visited here 8.9.12 for a dinner function for 500 people. the venue itself is OK but the food and service were appalling. Surly disinterested staff delivering food painfully slowly. It was supposed to be an Indian Banquet but was so far from this description it would have been funny if I didn’t have to eat it. On our table of 8 we received about a quarter of a broken up popadum each and pitiful accompaniments not even any mango chutney! Starters took for ever to come and weren’t worth the wait and after an absolute age were followed by more tepid non-​de script slops. The bar was equally useless understaffed and not a smile anywhere in sight. It will be a cold day in hell before anyone drags me kicking and screaming back into this place.

This isn’t as luxurious as it sounds but it’s still an elegant place to host conferences, large parties, weddings and any other type of function. I like their water feature in the entrance, which is noticeable as soon as you walk in. The entrance leads to a large bar. Here guests can have the option of enjoying the regular bar drinks, champagne or canapé receptions. The bar leads to the nicely decorated banqueting suite. Hiring the suite can be very pricey but I think it’s worth what you pay.
Ladies will know that during any function there is always que to the bathroom. The toilets are impressive as there are a number of cubicles, a good amount of space, dressing area and baby changing facilities. We ladies will know how useful this is in a public bathroom!
The suite offers seating for approximately 500 guests with a decent sized dance floor and the option to hire a DJ. The nice round tables and chairs are kindly provided by the venue. They can be decorated to suit the occasion. For example I used to celebrate News Years eve here so the place was decorated vibrantly.
I’ve had some great memories here and would love to continue them.

There are a handful of banqueting suites in Birmingham that offer seating for over 500 guests — Second City Suite is one of these. It’s located in the heart of Birmingham with secure parking (attendants are provided during bookings).
The corner entrance is elegantly adorned with a water feature, which makes good video footage of your function. This leads to a spacious bar area, which gives the option of setting up champagne or canapé receptions. And then you are led to the large banqueting suite, which is elegantly decorated with a low-​ceiling.
Round tables and banqueting chairs are provided by the venue, with a large dance floor. The toilets are also impressive, given the number of cubicles, dressing area and baby-​changing facilities (us ladies find this information valuable!)
It’s a large venue with a sophisticated design and great location. It can also be used for corporate events.

I cannot think of one good thing to say about it unfortunatly.
it was never well kept, and we ended up doing far more than we were contracted too, in an attempt to keep it clean. the Kitchen staff are unqualified, one of the staff from there arrested during a ceromany for a very serious matter.
id avoid this place like the plague.
