Holiday Inn Hotel Birmingham City Centre

I stayed here four nights on business. The room was clean, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the wifi was the fastest and most useful I’ve found in any hotel in years!
My one complaint was the state of the shower as it did not drain properly (at all), however I would definitely stay here again.

Basic Holiday Inn, very nice front desk staff. Note — restaurant is closed Sundays, for some unfathomable reason. Right across from the Chinatown area, tons of great restaurants nearby (including French, Italian, Continental.) If you are a club member, you will have to request a moring paper delivery. A bit noisy, so get a high floor. Otherwise perfectly fine.

Im Holiday Inn Birmingham City Centre habe ich über eine Woche übernachtet.
Lage
Das Holiday Inn ist von aussen ein recht hässliches Gebäude und liegt an einer stark befahrenen Strasse. Die zentrale Lage jedoch lässt esttraktiv werden für einen Aufenthalt in Birmingham. Das Bullring Einkaufszentrum ist 3 Minuten entfernt, das Chinesische Viertel fängt 100m weiter an, Shopping und Essen in «The Mailbox» ist in 5 Minuten erreichbar.
Frühstück
Das Frühstücksbuffet ist bei weitem nicht auf dem Niveau das man sonst in Hotels gewohnt ist. Es gibt ein kleines Englisches Buffet und Joghurt aus dem Becher, als Käse nur Babybel und Müsli aus Fertigpackungen. Der Kaffee schmeckt garnicht und der Service machte Morgens immer einen chaotischen Eindruck. Das Frühstück ist damit denn offiziellen Aufpreis von ca. 13 GBP nicht wert. Da geht man lieber in die Stadt zum Costa Café einen richtigen Cappuccino trinken.
Zimmer
Die Zimmer haben eine Mischung zwischen alter Einrichtung (Türen, Teppich) und einer modernisierten Ausstattung. Leider haben die Zimmertüren einen Spalt zum Boden und sind nicht Schallisoliert, so dass man den Lärm vom Gang mitbekommt. Ein grosser Flatscreen TV, Fön und Bügelbrett mit Bügeleisen sind vorhanden. Man kann es in dem Zimmer aushalten, keine besondere Ausstattung aber für ein paar Tage noch ok.
Die Minibar ist nicht gefüllt, stattdessen muss man Getränke bestellen. Dafür hat man aber einen kleinen Kühlschrank den man selber mit Getränken aus dem kleinen Geschäft gegenüber dem Hotel auffüllen kann.
Die Fenster sind nur zu kippen, aber immerhin lässt sich die Klimaanlage ausschalten.
Bar
Die Hotelbar wird auch keinen Einrichtungspreis gewinnen. Hatte dort nur einmal ein Bier getrunken und kann sonst dazu nicht viel sagen.
Fazit
Etwas in die Jahre gekommenes Hotel, mit gerade noch akzeptablen Zimmern
und guter Lage. Zum Abendessen sollte man besser in die Stadt oder zum Chinesenviertel gehen auch der Pub hinter dem Hotel «The Victoria» ist empfehlenswert. Wenn man auf Service verzichten kann, dann ist der Preis durchaus noch akzeptabel. Das Zimmer kostet ca. 75GBP pro Nacht incl. Frühstück.

Really close to the train station, bit of a concrete monstrosity from the outside, but nice on the inside. My room was some kind of ‘pod’ thing, with a really comfy ¾ size bed, some fancy modern art on the walls, a plasma screen tv and a compact but clean and modern bathroom.
Really enjoyed my stay here even though it was for business — the food was good and everything was reasonably priced. There’s a convenience store less than 2 minutes’ walk away for those who get the munchies late at night.

I stayed here for 1 night following a friend‘s stag day/​night in Birmingham.
The hotel is situated right in the center of town, very handy for all the night spots.
There is a bar in the hotel where you can sit out on the balcony and watch the world go by below you.
Rooms are ver clean and basic, though they have everything you would expect them to have.
Most of the staff where Eastern Europeans and where very friendly and helpful when I couldn‘t remember where my room was after the day & night long celebrations!
