I have visited this shop numerous times, so I can’t believe today was the first time I had checked in on Unilocal(very bad!). Sara is such a lovely lady. She is so welcoming and really informative and will help you with any indecisions about jewellery buying! As well as displaying artists work from around the country, she also designs and makes her own silver ware. She has a small workshop upstairs in the shop itself, so it can be fun to watch her creativity take shape. I have bought many items of jewellery as gifts and for myself(!) She caters for a wide range of tastes. Also, she sells cards, scarves and small items of porcelain.

This is a delightful and inspiring shop at the Custard factory. I spoke with Portia who is very friendly and knows a lot about everything that is on display. I was surprised at just how different all the pieces are, and great that they are all designed and made by local artists. They sell glass fused plaques, fine jewellery, scarves, vases and ornaments that make the perfect gift. Sara, who is both a designer and jeweller also crafts bespoke wedding rings, and if your lucky to catch her when she’s in, you can watch her actually making the jewellery. This is the kind of store where you could spend all day. Although they don’t sell gift vouchers, anybody would appreciate a gift from here. Follow them on Facebook or Twitter, as there window exhibition changes and updates every 3 months. The opening hours are 11.30am-4.30pm, but they are closed Tuesdays and Sundays. Saturday they are open from 11am-5pm.

Whenever I’m in London, I find myself drooling over the myriad small and awesome jewellery shops dotted around areas like Brick Lane. This is something Birmingham has very few of — but the Sara Preisler Gallery certainly fits into that niche. An ever changing collection of beautiful, interesting, quirky and strange jewellery fills the windows and cabinets inside the shop. There’s always a wide price range so you can usually find something that’s in the bracket you’re looking to spend.(As an example, whilst I found myself drooling over some gorgeous rough cut diamond jewellery recently, my bank balance only had enough to cover the cost of a silver and resin giraffe brooch which made the perfect present for one of my best friends. so I still got the satisfaction of buying SOMETHING!) I like that they also have art for sale alongside jewellery — recently there were some Grayson Perry ceramics for sale, and I would never have thought I’d see these in such an unexpected location!(Obviously massively out of my price range. but SOMUCHMOREINTERESTING than his performance work!) Another thing I love about this place is that Sara, the owner, is a jewller herself — and when you visit the shop you can often find her tinkering away behind the scenes working on one commission or another. Speaking of which — her work is delicious, and her design process is inspiring! I enquired about custom wedding rings(out of curiosity — not because I’m in a position to be purchasing just yet!) and she showed me some portfolio examples which were just stunning.

Lots and lots of shiny things at a range of prices, vary rarely have I made it down to the Custard Factory and this place has been open but never-the-less this shop always has interesting pieces to admire through the window. Usually i’m busy analysing the pieces to figure out how it was made and can i do it too. Everything is beautifully displayed and even when window-shopping it’s easy to spy something to catch your eye at the back of the shop. If you are looking for something hand made and a contemporary piece of jewellery or craft then it’s well worth a look in here. There are regular bi-monthly exhibitions and with the gallery showcasing a range of artists work there is always something new to admire.

Sara Priesler, runs a small jewellery gallery in the Custard factory. Showcasing some of her own work and a mixture of new up and coming and designers, the pieces she houses are fantabulouly original. Necklaces, broches, rings, coasters, glassewear, it really is a very special place for picking up unusual pieces. The prices are reasonable, especialy considering how much time and effort goes into running a business while also designing. She also opens on a monday and will soon be opening sunday too, a very rare find in the Custard factory.
