One Stop Shopping Centre

The One Stop seems to get a bad rep, but it serves it’s purpose and offers a range of shops and services in one convenient place in Perry Barr. I have used One Stop for various bits and pieces since I first moved to Birmingham in 2003. Being an ex UCE (now BCU) student, it was just over the road from my Uni and close to my student accommodation; meaning I could do all my weekly shopping in one place (without having to lug it back to somewhere too far away).
One Stop has it’s own car park, but it does get very busy on Saturday’s. You get three hours free parking; which gives you plenty of time to pop to the shops and get out before going over. As well as your chain shops (such as Asda, Boots and Rymans), there is a small selection of Independent stores including a butcher (that sells goat and mutton), a florist and various clothing stores and market stalls.
There is a good amount of discount stores, so you can grab your weekly shop at the supermarket and then grab some «bits and pieces» from Heron Foods, Poundland and Bodycare. There is a particularly good Mark and Spencer’s outlet store which I have been able to get jeans for £4 and great bargains in the large clearance section at the back (to the left hand side).
One Stop isn’t glitzy, but it is a good place to head to if you need your weekly shop or just grab a few bits and pieces. As a top tip; get down there early on the weekends to get a parking space.

3 hours free car parking but you can be fined by the private company that own it. There are signs everywhere so be careful not to exceed the allocated time.

Beware of over zealous parking attendants (its not what i call them) I was there for less than 3 minutes to pick up the wife and got a Parking charge notice for £60. as im an oap i dont think its very clever and will never return.

This is not a shopping centre that you would expect to find in an expensive area of the capitol, but it serves its purpose. You can eat there, buy essentials from the selection of shops both inside and out, even get a tattoo done.
The biggest 2 complaints, which are important to lots, is the fact that you can never guarantee that the toilets and changing areas are open, sometimes for days/​wks at a time, and recently, have had pretty much the last 3 months without a lift, and took about a month for them to point out the side enterence for wheelchairs/​pushchairs etc. And even then, once your pushchair,(a double in our case), is laden with shopping, you then have to struggle up a steep hill to walk home or catch the bus etc.
Now the lift is looking ready to use, it is awaiting a safety check type thing, which means even more days/​weeks/​months up/​down that steep hill!
Lots of big free car parking, and nice tiny indoor market in-​shops!
Basically, if you need shopping and essentials and are in the area, its an ok place to shop!

For me, One Stop started off as a meeting point so that I could find my friends who live in Perry Barr. I’d never been to this part of Brum before, so the first time I came here, I jumped off the 51 bus as soon as I saw ‘One Stop’ sign posts.
I did expect the shopping centre to be a bit grander than it actually is, maybe I’d built my hopes up a little too much. However, I’ve grown to know the area now, so One Stop is like that unwanted wart that you’ve got too used to.
Yeah, the centre isn’t anything to shout about at all, but it’s very handy for people who might be visiting or passing by. You can pick up a cheap meal from Burger King or Wetherspoons, or pop into Asda for some shopping. One Stop is nothing to go out of your way for though; most of the shops here can be found in anywhere else in Birmingham.

The One Stop Centre is located out by Perry Barr train Station and the University campus and before anyone slates the place, I would ask; what would you do without it?!
Let’s face it Perry Barr isn’t famed with being exactly a crowd puller and One Shop offers a little glamour to one of Birminghams more neglected parts of town.
Afterall you can’t fight the joy of the shopping centre experience of being penned in on all sides by familair high street stores and One Stop has them in abundance.
There’s an Argos, numerous phoneshops, a KFC and a Burger King!
If you after something a little more healthy there’s also a Holland & Barretts!
One Stop is a modern shopping centre that adds a little sophistication to the surrounding area.
It also serves a good place to meet, something of a landmark, One Stop it might be but it’s also worth a second look!

I ventured down to Asda at One Stop one day in the hope that I could find this awesome George playsuit that I had seen in a magazine. Never have I been so disappointed with an Asda! I got the bus all the way there too. What a joke. Urgh.
The highlight of my trip ended up being some nail clippers purchased from Savers for a quid.
I just looked on their website and saw a whole list of stores that I hadn’t noticed last time. I feel cheated now. I could have cheered myself up with a new bag from Peacocks or Dotty P’s followed by a swift half in Wetherspoons. Will pay more attention next time.
Asia, if you’re reading this, please can you open the biggest store ever somewhere near Constitution Hill? Ta…

Agree with previous post, the whole centre has a threatening vibe to it. There seems to be lots of people just hanging around and not there for shopping. Lower end chain stores a plenty, and lots of people who seem to have left their manners at home. Had to go thereto pick an item up from Comet, and felt vulnerable even walking back to the car.

I can’t believe I’m reviewing the same place after reading the reviews on one stop! Terrible place, lousy trashy god forsaken hole in the ground! I wish someone would come and obliterate the place. Every time ur there u feel like your going to be shot in some drive by shooting! Didn’t any one hear of that child being burnt horribly by some idiot with a petrol bomb. These reviewers either work at one stop or are complete morons for not seeing One stop for what it is (rubbish). Yes of course I would let my children run around in this paradise for kids as I go and stuff my self at mc Donalds and go and spend my hard earned benefits in the pound shop. Oh and Next is closed and as far as I know the sports shop too. Oh the parking is bloody awful, expect to loose ur car there if u can find a bloody place. No wonder they put this thing near Handsworth!

i enjoy a visit to the one stop shopping centre, it has busses that run within the grounds, and plenty of car parking spaces.
they have a large selection of shops including pound stretcher, home bargains, argos, asda just to mention a few.
they have an indoor market tye of thing, where there are a selection of shops but also stalls that sell different things eg they were selling books one time, another they were selling flying toy planes always at bargain prices.
they have a drive thru kfc and a mcdonalds so can stay for lunch too.

Love this place, it has a next clearance sports clearance and loads of other shops for all the family, also has an indoor part with lots of popular shops like Bay trading, Boots.

Pretty handy to have nearby to all the students in Perry Barr. The asda gets insanely busy, the last time I went I had to wait in a que for over half an hour just to pay for a bottle of wine and a few munchies!
Theres quite a few shops there including some independant shops that sell bits and bobs (they always seem to have anything I need. coat hangers, shot glassesanything!)
Most busses that run in the area stop off at one stop so its easy to get too.

This shopping centre is just above the rest. It has the standard stores: Next, Poundland, tons of shoe stores etc. but what sets it apart is the layout. It has stores lined up inside and out and just below the TRAVELATOR is an indoor marketplace full of local, independently-​run businesses. There is a meat market, tiny restaurants, an electrics store, and plenty of clothes. Before the Bullring was built One Stop was the shopping centre. It supports local shopkeepers and has an ASDA inside for the less local but extremely cheap shopping needs.
