Metro Bar & Grill

Went for my work Christmas Party and we went for drink afterwards to Metro. I’ve been to Metro a few times with work before as its really popular with the people I work with. One event I’d previously been to was catered for and the food was lovely. I’ve only been to the bar area at the front but I’ve walked through the more seated area at the back. The back I think is the best part of Metro as it has this lovely curved mirrored wall which really open up the space.

Again, I was torn between ¾ stars. I have been to a few Christmas lunches here and also after works drinks and found a buzzing atmosphere. Due to its location in the financial area, I would probably only feel comfortable with a work crowd and wouldn’t consider it on a Saturday night for example.
On this occasion, I had a voucher for a bottle of wine if you bought two main courses. I booked a table for 7.30 on a Tuesday night as I feared it might still be busy. I really didn’t need too-​there were only 3 other people in there! So, we sat near the bar rather than the lonely restaurant!
The bottle of Merlot we were offered was delicious, I’m not sure how much they would actually charge for it, £12 maybe. We didn’t order starters but went straight into mains. Prices vary between £11−23. I chose the lamb with apricot couscous, which was delicious. My friend went for the rigatoni, but had to send it back as it wasn’t cooked! How can you fail to cook pasta? Sadly this meant I had nearly finished by the time her new meal came back. Also they didn’t take anything of the bill, so we had to ask them, as we felt a little aggrieved! Luckily the manager apologised and took the price of the pasta dish off the bill. The night could have gone better, but I would give this place another chance.

Metro Bar and Grill in the financial district is a bit of a playground for the cash rich city workers in the area. For this exact reason, I had never visited before last Thursday. It’s not that I was put off by the prices necessarily, but I just never had a call to go to a bar for the suited and booted of the area (especially when there are so many younger, funkier bars in the area).
It looks pretty smart from the outside with nice signage, glass windows and the typical red brick look of so many of the buildings around Church/​Cornwall Street. It’s nice, if not a little plain, on the inside too. Think clean lines and minimal decoration. To be honest, it’s exactly what you would expect from seeing the exterior.
I didn’t have a full sit down meal but did partake in some yummy deep fried prawns, yorkshire puddings with beef and some other finger food (which was all really nice). I also tried their take on a «Kir Royale» style cocktail (with Prosecco instead of Champagne) which was also lovely.
The bar wasn’t as expensive as I thought it would be. A pint of cider and a single Vodka and mixer came to around £7.50 — which was a bit of a surprise. I wasn’t expecting change from a tenner, to be honest. I can’t comment on the price of their wine list (which I imagine is quite pricy), but it seemed reasonable as a good spot for a meeting or a couple of afterwork drinks.
I was at the venue for a private function (so I will disregard the people that were attending that), but the clientele other than our group was what I expected it to be. A mix of quality suits, shoes and a smell of wealth is in the air. Service was friendly, the venue was clean and calm and the drinks and food were quite palatable. I would opt for 3.5 stars (as I think 3 is a little low), but if I ever have call to go back and try the menu properly — this may change.

Live band and singer. The long bar area near the entrance is a great place to meet up for drinks. Eating area set back with a curved walkway so dining is relaxed.
Good meat, fish and vegetarian selections. We also had cocktails which were well presented. Food was tasty and looked great. In particular the aged steaks were excellent.
Staff were superb — attentive, friendly and cheerful — top marks.
Under £40 a head for a la carte menu 3-​course meal with wine and cocktails including service charge.
Gem of a restaurant.

This particular restaurant is a great stylish destination. hen you arrive in the restaurant, you will be pleasantly surprised by the relaxing atmosphere which is often lost grill places/
The waiters were dressed smartly which contributed to the relaxed yet stylish vibe.
We both went for the chargrilled steaks served with hand cut chunky chips. We went on a Thursday night and most of the tables were full but we still received excellent service and our food came quickly.

Located on the outskirts of Solihull’s main shopping area is the Metro Bar & Grill. Now, there’s plenty of fine eateries located in on the High Street and in Touchwood shopping centre, but if you’re looking for somewhere to sit and relax after a hard day of shopping, then Metro Bar & Grill is a great place to go. It’s by no means the cheapest place to go — they do a great range of sandwiches (prawn and crayfish is my personal favourite) that are generally around £6, and the dinner options are even pricier — but the food is some of the best available in Solihull, and it’s a spacious, luxurious interior that’s great to just relax in, even if it’s just with a drink.

Well, I don’t know what I was expecting — Birmingham restaurants often promise way more than they deliver. Maybe it was because it was a Monday night — perhaps the chef was just having an off day. Or a day off.
I ordered what’s usually my favourite dish — pumpkin risotto — as it was a special meal I’d arranged with my parents for my birthday. I was a bit worried about ordering it as it came with marscapone — so I asked the waitress to make sure it didn’t have too much and wasn’t too over creamy. So when it came ther was a double disappointment. First off — it was WAY too creamy — more like the consistency of a rice pudding, And the portion — which was supposed to be a main course — was absolutely minute — about a quarter of the bowl. I’d hate to see the starter size.
On the plus side, I guess I didn’t much like it anyway so at least I didn’t have to plough through a massive plateful. I thought I’d at least fill up on the side dish of roasted pumpkin and spinach — but soon changed my mind. The squash — swimming in water — was more braised than roasted and tasted very bitter. And there were about 10 leaves of spinach. I was really disappointed.
In an effort to redeem something of my evening, I asked the waitress which dessert was good and she more or less wrote them all off except the treacle tart — which she strongly recomended. It would never be my top choice so rashly I chose the chocolate tart, which I’m not ultra keen on either — but there was not a huge choice and my Dad promised to order the treacle and then switch with me if I didn’t like mine. Thank goodness he did.
The chocolate tart was freezing cold from the fridge, for a start — and more like a slab of dense truffle than a tart, on a rather soggy biscuit base. Again, a very minimal portion. I immediately swopped plates with poor old Dad and grabbed the treacle tart, which was actually really nice, rich, warm and very crisp, buttery pastry. At least they got something right. And my parents enjoyed their main courses (which were both about 3 times the size of the risotto — very random portioning by the kitchen). I had some kind of local discount card so at least it wasn’t that expensive — around £47 for the three of us. But I still won’t be going there again — especially not to celebrate any future birthdays.

This restaurant is located in the business district in Birmingham and, I agree, quite difficult to find. Although this street now has alot of other good restaurants such as Opus.
Bar Metro has a very long bar and smaller dining section. The décor is very contemporary and the food is very good. Do bear in mind that the restaurant is not open Saturday lunchtimes — just for dinner and drinks in the evenings

The bar is set off Colmore Row, it can be quite hard to find as it is set between two office blocks, only a small silver sign outside indicates that there is a bar there.
Metro bar is popular with workers having drinks after a busy day in the office, it has a lively atmosphere but isn’t too busy that you can’t get a seat or that it feels over crowded.
Food is available but expect to pay over the odds. The food is always well presented and tastey but portions can be small and not always worth the hefty price tag.
The bar seems to be popular with solicitors/​accountants and the like, it can be a little pretentious but always good for a bit of peopple watching over a nice glass of wine.

As soon as you enter Metro Bar & Grill, you can immediately tell that this is a classy place, with good food and drink.
The bar area is what you first walk in to, with a huge selection of wines and comfortable seating.
Further on in is the restaurant, which is elegantly decorated and which has a much more quiet and private atmosphere than that at the bar.
The menu is quite limited, but changes frequently. The food is cooked to your liking, and tastes impeccable, as it should for the quite high price.
After the meal, too full to move too far, the bar provides comfort once again.
The crowd is mostly young professionals and everyone is quite formally dressed.
It’s a good place to go for a classy meal and a drink, and even provides a great location for a romantic date.
