Let’s start with the fact that we had to wait OUTSIDE, in the cold, for 20 minutes. Then we were seated right by the door… Which never seemed to close(people at the table next to us kept getting up to close it as we were all freezing). Milkshakes were amazing, and the sweet potato fries were well cooked. Sadly, that is the only good thing I can say. Burgers arrived COLD, over-cooked, and incorrect(mine had onion on it even though I requested no onion and even mentioned I have an allergy). When I told the server, she took it away… But returned with THESAMEBURGER with a different top bun(I know because they hadn’t even bothered to scrape of all the onion relish which was still on the bottom bun and all over the burger.) The final insult was being handed a 2 for 1 card as an apology… But the card expired THEVERYNEXTDAY. Overall NOT worth the £18 I spent for burger, fries, and shake. Friends have raved about the restaurant in Solihull, so maybe I’ll try there, but I will NOT be returning to the Handmade Burger Co. at the Bullring.

Their milkshakes bring all the boys to the yard… Handmade Burger at Bullring has a terrace overlooking St Martins church, great for an after work supper in the sun. Oreo Cookie milkshakes are a favourite of mine, if you have a sweet tooth you’ll love ‘em, you’ll be dreaming of them, you’ll wish you were pregnant and had a legit reason for craving them. At £4.35 they’re not cheap, but you get at least a pint served in a classic dinner style milkshake cup, it’s a drink and a dessert in one. We counted over 50 burger options on the menu, there are loads of different topping combos available on beef, chicken, lamb or veggie burgers. I had ‘The Greek’, a lamb burger crowned with feta and fresh tzatziki, all sandwiched in a super fresh, super soft sesame seed bun. I’d say they’re better then your average burgers, not the most mind blowing I’ve had, but a very good four star burger. Rosemary salted chips completed the feast. Milkshake, burger and fries will set you back around £14 each.

I need to be honest from the very beginning: I used to work here. That’s not an excuse for giving a bad review, at all. The food is really fresh. You can actually see the guys upstairs cutting cheese, tomatoes, salad, etc and pressing burgers. When you follow your way downstairs, you can see the kitchen on the left side. I like the fact of seeing how they cook my food. This restaurant works like some more restaurants in the UK: you go to the bar to order your food. After that they give you a table number and they give you the drinks. Later on they look for your table number and the food is delivered to your table. Of course I had food in the restaurant many times so instead of telling you what I had last time I will tell you which are my favorites. Rosemary chips are a must, garlic mayo is pretty amazing and BBQ sauce as well. Mushroom and avocado as a topping in a burger is a win win, it’s kinda pricy but it makes a huge difference for the burger lovers. They have all the stuff that you can imagine as toppings: bacon, pineapple, pastrami, 7 kinds of cheese, jalapeños, or for the meat lovers you can even put an extra patty to your burger. I’m vegetarian so I always choose cheese(cheddar or halloumi) and avocado to my burger. Drinks are ok. They don’t have the draft option but still with the new menu there are at least 7 different types of beer, maybe more. Cider too, strawberry and lime(my favorite!), Apple, passion fruit, and a new Apple with cinnamon. Not bad handmade burger. The milkshakes — nice!!! They are too short though, just have of the cup is filled and they are not really cheap, but is fine. They always bring the shakes to your table because it takes a few minutes to prepare. The reason why I put three stars then? Well, service sometimes isn’t the best. It gets really, really busy and there is not enough staff to serve or help the customers, and you can tell, they are rushing, running around, trying to reach everything but they can’t. Plus(and I understand) when it gets hectic some of them can be rude-ish. But again, you need to see the restaurant completely cramped to understand! Prices aren’t too bad, you can get a burger, side, dip and drink for between £12 and £15 which for the quality I think is really good.

I’m getting a FREE burger? Of course I’m going to give you a review. Last week I had an email from my friend telling me to sign up to Handmade Burger Co. Which is somewhere I’ve not eaten in many years. 24 hours later and I found myself queuing at the Bullring branch waiting for a Honey and Mustard Chicken Burger(I don’t even like mustard) worth £7.25. I expected a wait as there were many people with burger vouchers and the place seems to have about 40 tables. I sat outside waiting for my friend to turn up and meet me as I was meant to be going to the train station and heading to Coventry. I was told it would be 15 minutes as they were busy and true to his word the burger arrived in its takeout box 15 minutes later. For what its worth. It’s not better quality than anywhere else and they don’t seem to have a story about their history like GBK or Nandos which are places that Handmade gets compared to. It would have got a 3 star review but they earned a star for being so polite trouble is there is no Unique Selling Point to Handmade. Be Unique!

If you imagine a marginally more attentive/politely staffed Nandos as a burger joint, this is it. The same get up and order your food at the counter, pour your own bottomless drinks and pay before you get your meal thing is done here. On a early Sunday lunchtime they had a lot of staff on busying themselves over not a lot. I ordered the Moroccan lamb burger, which was ok. Nothing special when it came to the quality of meat and a disappointment considering they’re meant to specialise in burgers. Not worth almost £10. I could have got a burger just as good or better from the King for less– and it would have come with fries and a drink! My partner’s burger arrived tasting of nothing but salt. When a replacement burger came, it was exactly the same(I tried it and you could actually crunch the grains of salt in the sauce.) The ‘cooks’ clearly hadn’t tasted this even though they’d received a complaint. They also forgot the additional toppings on the replacement burger which was annoying, after having waited over 10 mins for it to arrive– by which time I’d finished and we both just wanted to leave. They refunded my partner for his burger after he said he didn’t want it replaced a third time. They apologised, but we won’t be going back in any sort of a hurry.

The food, because there is little other reason to come here but for food, was surprisingly average. It came out spread over quite a while, was dry and expensive. It sold beer and you could sit outside which was nice but I have had nothing but better burgers everywhere else I’ve been this year. You could get a table at half eight on a Saturday but even if I am in this position again in future, will avoid. Service was not bad, despite late food… It’s just the food itself. Perhaps if they focussed on just a handful of burgers they could go back to basics and experiment on how to combine fire, bread and meat to make something worth £8.50. This wasn’t.

I been to this place few times now, I love it. I always get bbq chicken burger and chips. I love their chips, coleslaw is just amazing and crunchy. Feels fresh My only negative would be the chicken, they seem to make it too dry. Not always but I do get dry chicken sometimes and it’s hard to chew. So wouldn’t give it perfect score due to inconsistency. Staff as always are lovely and helpfull.

This was the first time I have ever been to any Handmade Burger Co restaurant and I can happily say that I am thoroughly pleased with what they have to offer! Their service was amazing and I highly recommend asking for the manager Chris as he is extremely helpful with their service and is informative about any queries you may have with the company. They are very generous with their delicacies in which I couldn’t finish my Beef Cheese Classic, which wasn’t that big in comparison to the other meals they had to offer on their menu. The layout was great and spacious with a lot of natural lighting that compliments their open hatch kitchen. They also provide outdoor seating which is great for dining on a sunny summers day! I would definitely be going back with more friends and family as it’s a great place to socialise and dine.

There is two Handmade Burger Co. restaurants in Birmingham and this review could be for either, although I would definitely opt for the the one with the canal side view this one is good for it’s location right next to the Bull Ring. The menu at handmade is extensive with a wide variety of burgers to choose from, even giving us annoying vegetarians a few good options. I have tried 2, the bean burger and the mushroom burger and both were delicious(the mushroom burger is simply a large flat mushroom as apposed to a patty, still tasty nonetheless). The chips are nice, fat homestyle chips too which I would much rather have than weedy french fries. It’s not particularly cheap clocking in at just under a tenner per head but it’s just worth it. The staff are all friendly and helpful too and I’ve seen them be very patient with some troublesome guests before too. One complaint? The ordering system. Really, it might be petty, but I don’t want to have to go to the counter to order, i want a waiter for my ten bucks! It’s a small complaint though and definitely not something that would keep me from going.

Although it’s got a couple of restaurants open around the UK, I love Handmade Burger Co. enough to fight its corner on here and having already frequented the smaller one in Brindley Place, I was delighted to see a larger one open up a hop and a skip from the Bullring. Handmade is tastefully decorated inside and surprisingly intimate considering its location that looks out onto a busy footpath from the Bullring. Now I fancy myself as a bit of a burger connoisseur: Having been a tad disappointment by Gourmet Burger, I found Handmade’s burgers to be absolutely delicious. Probably the best I have ever had(that’s a big statement coming from me). Big, juicy burgers with a huge variety of options(BBQ is an old favourite, although I’m sure they’re all great) are usually around a fiver, although you’ll probably get roped in for some sides(chips and onion rings are great!). All your usual drinks are served as well as milkshakes. I have to say, I wasn’t particularly bowled over by the chocolate shake I treated myself to before; it was totally fine but just… ok. One good example of how nice the staff are occurred when my dad was a tad disappointed by his burger cold: After mum raised the issue with our waiter(Dad wouldn’t dare), a million apologies, a complimentary bowl of fries, a replacement red-hot burger and a refund for the original purchase followed. Just one of all three of those apology offerings would have been more than enough for me, so I was really surprised and encouraged at how keen the guys at Handmade are to satisfy. Not just for all the freebies(I ate most of the chips), but it was a lovely gesture that we all really appreciated. With a burger, a side and a drink you’ll probably be looking at about £10ish a head, so not the sort of place you can pop into every weekend but Handmade is a terrific place to visit for the occasional treat.

For me, the best time to visit Handmade is a weekday evening as a Saturdays get so busy it’s just downright hectic! The Burgers are sizeable and the meat is good quality. There are more varieties than you can chake a stick at and vegetarian options to boot. You can find a burger under £5, but expect to pay £10 up if you fancy a meal. Handmade offer a good burger at a reasonable price, they’re good at what they do.
